Chapter 1

High School

Somewhere, within the depths of a small town called Burgess, lay an Victorian Gothic mansion, with rumors of being haunted due to a demon occupying the house with his daughter. This place was often avoided, but it also fell victim to vicious but unnecessary pranks. Deepen within its chambers, a sole girl of age 16 restlessly paced around her bedroom.

"Why do I have to go to high school again? I have a sufficient amount of knowledge as it is, besides mortals there are annoying and rather rude." She mumbled.

"Merida." A voice called, it was her Father.

"What dad?"

"Get ready for school."

"Whyyyy? I'm a demon for Pete's sake."

"But even so, I want you have a good and secure future ahead of you." The man came from the shadows, explaining with a soft expression. Merida just kept her eyes glued to him and sighed, "But people are afraid of me."

Pitch felt a tug at his heart strings and went up to her, hands on her cheeks, he caressed them affectionately. "Well they just don't know how wonderful you truly are." Merida smiled and gave him a tight hug. "Thanks dad."

"Any time." She let go and went to get on her usual attire, black shirt, ripped jeans, and converse—though it wasn't much, she preferred it over the skimpy outfits the female humans bore. Merida bid farewell to her father and shut the door.

oOoOoOo

"Alright class, time to take roll." Her homeroom teacher, Mr. Drac, announced. Merida had her head down, people always thought her appearance was ghastly. Since her eyes were an eerily shade of hazel and had uncharacteristically pitch-black hair like her father's, the mortals would make up rumors that apparently she, was a follower of satan. However this said rumor managed to anger her to no extend.

Merida's POV

Logically speaking, I really wasn't. My dad is the nightmare king but not THE Ruler of the underworld.

"Merida Pitchnier Black." Mr. Drac called, voice obviously laced with fear. "Here." I huffed, glaring at nothing in particular. Although, she didn't look my way, I knew he marked me present. Even the teachers were terrified of me. How stupid is that? To make matters worse, everybody began to whisper again. I let out a muffled groan as I buried my face into my arms even further. I didn't dare to peek, but the nagging part of my brain said otherwise so I did. I scanned the room, everyone's eyes were on me, and what I'd get?

Unnerving cold glares and terrified stares.

Oh joy.

Except for one person. A boy with messy, spiked-ish white hair, pale skin, and light blue hues that didn't seem to express resentment, instead it held mischief. He then offered me a playful but friendly shit eating grin—which may I add, exposed his pearly whites, which were too inhumanly shiny. I jumped back slightly, a bit confused. Why would did he smile? Didn't he know that I'm the most feared person in the town? I was so lost in thought that, I didn't even notice the bell ringing, signaling the end of homeroom. As usual my classmates left in rush, and then I felt a tap on my shoulder. I snapped my head up to see the same boy from earlier. "Hey I was wondering if you can help me find these classrooms?" He handed me his schedule, to which I read.

My eyes widen in shock he had all my teachers?! What?

Strange..

"Sure these are my classrooms as well so just follow me." He beamed.

"Really that's cool, let's go."

"Yeah haha." I drawled out sarcastically.

"What's wrong?"

"If people see you around with me, they'll make up stupid rumors about you, and I don't want that."

"Why would they?"

"Don't you know who I am?"

"No, I'm new here so, I have no clue."

"Well Imma cut to the chase lad, I am the child of the nightmare king."

"Wha? Why do they say that?"

"Look at me! My eyes an eerie shade of hazel and my hair's drowned in darkness that rivals the night sky, it's just plain out frightful, and let's not mention my way of dressing!"

He stared at me quizzically. "You like fine the way you are, I say you're even pretty." He then offered a reassuring smile.

Strange boy indeed.

I felt myself blush and the sudden temperature in the room seemed to increase. I averted his gaze, and lightly snarled

"You're a strange one"

"Wha—I'll have you know, I'm the best person to be around with!"

I smirked. "Say what's your name kid?"

"Jackson Overland Frost, but just call me Jack."

I reached for his hand and gave a firm shake. "Merida Pitchnier Black, at your service."

Normal POV

The two teens grinned at each other, for the first time in ever, Merida actually felt happy. Jack was the first person who didn't publicly insult her, and by far, her first actual friend. Maybe, this year would go well for Merida.

This a start of great friendship

(Hehehe I decided to make Jack childish and happy-go-lucky, don't worry he still has his mischievous and prankster side don't worry I'll bring his old personality back soon but not right now, so R&R. See you all soon)

9/21/16: Hi. I, yet again, fixed up this horrid chapter.
