There was a loud knocking on Caroline's door that interrupted her cuddling time with Klaus, who looked down at her to see if she would go get it or not.
Caroline had a terrible feeling that it was going to be Tyler at the door and she really did not want to deal with him at that point, so she remained put and hoped that whoever it was would just give up and go away.
There was a second round of knocking and then Bonnie's voice shouted, "Care, open up." There was a pause. "Come on… I heard about what happened with Tyler last night" Another pause. "If you don't open the door then I'll just stand here and yell at you all day-"
Bonnie stopped when the other girl opened the door. Caroline knew from past experiences that Bonnie was not lying about being willing to stand outside all day bothering her.
"How do you know about what happened with Tyler?" The blonde questioned.
"He told me," Bonnie responded. "He wanted me to come make sure that you're okay."
"Because he's too afraid to himself," Caroline added. "Not that I want him here."
"So are you okay?" Bonnie asked.
"I'm fine," The vampire responded honestly.
"Care, you walked in on your boyfriend cheating on you less than twenty-four hours ago," Bonnie pointed out. "It's alright to admit that you're not okay."
"But I am," Caroline insisted. "Maybe I was in terrible condition last night, but I swear that I'm more than fine now. I'm glad that things are over with Tyler and that I finally got the push that I needed to break up with him."
Bonnie frowned. Her friend was putting on a good brave act, but the witch knew that there was no way that Caroline was doing that well… At some point the blonde was going to self-destruct, it was just a matter of when and how.
Klaus was still sitting on Caroline's bed, waiting for her to return. He was wondering whether he should leave out the window or not, despite the fact that Caroline had told him to stay there, that she would get rid of Bonnie.
It didn't overly sound like that plan was working out for Caroline and Klaus doubted that she would want Bonnie finding out about them already, so he got up and began to walk towards the window. He didn't even get halfway there before something that Caroline said stopped him.
"Care, I'm not just leaving you here by yourself after what happened," Bonnie insisted.
"I'm not by myself," Caroline responded matter-of-factly. "Klaus is here."
The other girl's eyes looked like they were about to pop out of her head as she stared at her friend in shock.
"Please tell me that you didn't have rebound sex with him to get revenge on Tyler," Bonnie pleaded.
"Not exactly," Caroline responded.
"What does that mean?"
"I didn't sleep with him," The blonde elaborated. "Well technically I did, but I didn't sleep with him sleep with him. And it's not some kind of rebound or revenge thing… I mean there was kissing, but that was this morning."
"So?" Bonnie demanded, not understanding how that could possible justify the situation as not being Klaus taking advantage of a vulnerable, revenge-hungry Caroline. "Clearly you've thought this through then and this isn't just you trying to get back at Tyler. And of course you're not going to end up regretting this." The sarcasm was dripping from the witch's tone.
"Bonnie, can you at least give me a chance to explain instead of just being so incredibly unsupportive?"
The other girl had to keep her mouth held tightly shut so that she wouldn't snap at her friend as she reluctantly nodded.
"It's not like me having feelings for him is a new thing. They've been there for a long time and they just kept growing, even when I tried to fight them," Caroline told her. "I couldn't ignore those feelings, just as much as I couldn't admit to them... I couldn't be with Klaus because he's the bad guy. But if he's so horrible, then why is he the one who treats me the nicest? Tyler was supposed to be the good guy, but he cheated on me. Klaus is supposed to be the bad guy, but he's not the one that hurt me. I told myself that it was clear-cut black and white, but it's not. And I'm done trying to pretend that I don't have feelings for him."
"I know that you think that you mean that, but-" Bonnie began to respond before she was cut off.
"But you prefer to assume that I'm broken because you want to believe that this is some problem that you can fix," Caroline interrupted. "How's that going with Elena?"
"You're the one who was so against the idea of Elena being with someone as bad as Damon," Bonnie pointed out. "And yet you're with Klaus?"
"Well maybe that's because Klaus never raped and brainwashed me," Caroline responded angrily. "Or is everyone still pretending that never happened? I mean why wouldn't they, right? Because Damon's such a great guy and he so completely good enough for Elena."
The harshness in Caroline's tone was like a slap across the face to Bonnie.
"But you're right," Caroline continued, just as sarcastically as before. "I'm the one whose choice in men you should be worried about. There must be something wrong with me to want someone that actually cares about me."
Klaus felt his hands clench into fists as his whole body tensed. This was the first time that he had heard anything about what Damon had done to Caroline. To call Klaus furious at that point would be an understatement.
Caroline slammed the door in her friend's face, leaving Bonnie standing there utterly speechless. Bonnie felt guilty, but she was also still concerned about her friend.
A few seconds passed before she sighed and reluctantly turned to leave since Caroline clearly did not want to take her help right now.
Caroline walked back into her room. The good mood that her day had started off with had completely vanished during her conversation with Bonnie and now all that she wanted to do was curl up in bed and sleep away the rest of the day.
It didn't look like Klaus had the same idea though as he stood, violently shaking from the amount of strength it was taking to keep himself from running off and delivering a slow and very painful death to the oldest Salvatore brother.
She walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder in the hopes that it would make him relax a little, but his muscles remained taut underneath her grasp.
"Klaus," She tried quietly.
Not once in any of the times that she had seen Klaus in a fit of rage had it ever been as frightening to her as it was now. He remained perfectly silent as he remained rooted to the spot with his fists clenched and his body still shaking. He wasn't looking at her; his eyes had been shut since before she entered the room.
Suddenly, his eyes opened as he looked down at her and saw the fear in her eyes. He forced himself to relax, and after a few seconds he had stopped shaking and managed to make his posture a little less stiff.
Caroline could see that his body was still rigid and she could tell that he was still just as enraged. Still, she decided to take a chance and reached a hand up to touch the side of his face.
She felt him calm a little more under her touch, so she took a step closer to him and pressed her lips against his for a brief, meaningful kiss.
When her eyes fluttered open again, they stared into his, silently pleading with him to calm down. She wanted back the Klaus that had been there before Bonnie had arrived.
He exhaled deeply before he bent his down to kiss her on the top of the head as his arms wrapped around her.
"I didn't mean to scare you, Sweetheart. I just…" Klaus hesitated for a moment before he asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"It doesn't matter," Caroline responded, her head resting against his chest.
"How does it not matter?" Klaus asked in a bitter tone. He was still trying to convince himself to stay there with Caroline and figure out what had happened instead running off to murder Damon… At least for now. "When did it happen? … Please. You have to give me something, Caroline."
Caroline sighed. She really did not want to talk about this right now… Why couldn't she just curl up in bed and ignore all of her problems?
"I'm tired," She said, ripping herself out of his grip. "I want to go back to bed. Can't this wait?"
Klaus was sure that he would go insane and completely lose control if he had to wait any longer, and yet he watched Caroline crawl back into bed as he replied with, "Sure, Love."
A/N: Please read and review! So I should be updating my overdue stories, but instead I decided to turn this into a multi-chapter story since I wasn't letting myself start another new story no matter how many ideas I had... I don't think I really managed to help myself at all with that logic, but oh well... Anyways, I hope that you guys liked this chapter and hopefully it won't be too long before there's another update. Thanks for reading and thanks to all of the reviewers of the first chapter. I hope that you guys enjoyed this one :)
