"How Much Is The Fish"

Kimberly Hart had a developed sense of being able to tell when something wasn't right, when something or someone was lurking just out of sight. It was a sense that had been honed through three years of random ambushes by Putty Patrollers and Tengu warriors. It was a sense that, in that parking garage with her backpack hanging off one shoulder, was sounding off warnings in her head. It was a sense that was moving her instinctively into 'fight' mode to be ready for whatever was about to happen.
It was a sense that left her wishing that her Morpher and Pterodactyl Power Coin, broken and damaged as they were, weren't hidden away back at her apartment. They wouldn't be much help if anything happened, but at least they would make her feel better.
Glancing around with her eyes only, she noticed a group over in one of the better lit areas that seemed to be playing 'keep up' with a soccer ball, but it didn't look like they even knew she was there, so she didn't think they were the source of that feeling of danger. That was when she first heard the engines revving behind her. For a moment, she cursed the fact that Putty and Tengu attacks always happened in the park or down by the waterfront, leaving her without much practice fighting in confined spaces and especially outside of well-lit areas. Dashing for the cover of the nearest lighted area, Kim had only just reached it when she found herself surrounded by three men on sport bikes, their helmets covering their features and leaving them unidentifiable. Almost synchronised, they revved their engines and as they sped by her, in dodging one of them Kimberly put out an arm to help her balance, allowing one of the other bikers to snatch her backpack off her shoulder before she could react.
With a growl of offended anger, Kim took off running after the thief. When she saw them cut around a row of parked cars, she put her hands on the hood of the nearest one and threw herself up into a cartwheel that took her across the hood, roof and trunk of the car to land on her feet on the other side of the row. Seeing her ahead of him, the thief cut back through an empty parking spot to the side of the row from which he had just came and took off towards one of the doors. It looked like they were going to escape when a soccer ball came flying across Kim's field of vision and hit the door control, shutting it just as they reached it and causing them to slam into it. Before she could catch up, however, the third biker had driven past their friend and taken her backpack from them. Kim didn't like swearing, she considered it a disgusting habit and a sign of weakness, but at the moment she was having to fight the urge to let loose a string of profanity that would blister the paint on nearby cars. Calling on her training in gymnastics and martial arts - and also on what connection she still had to the Power - Kim jumped up to grab a hanging pipe and used it like part of a set of uneven bars to swing across to another pipe and another until she was hanging directly in the path of the third biker. What she was about to try was something she'd never done unmorphed, but it had worked when Putties and Tengu had attacked in Angel Grove part and the fight ended up near the playground equipment, so she hoped it would work now. As the third biker came speeding towards her, Kim swung and locked her legs on either side of his head, dragging him off his bike as - now out of control and riderless - it laid on its side and skidded down the aisle. Almost as quickly as she had used her legs to grab the rider, she released him and let him fall to the ground, dropping to her feet seconds afterwards. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw one of the soccer players kick a ball with enough force behind it that it went through both passenger and driver-side windows of a car and knock the biker that she had dodged earlier, the only one of the thiefs still mounted, off of his wheels and send him tumbling to the ground. While Kim was slightly distracted, the third biker scrambled to his feet, Kim's backpack straps still looped over his arm. That didn't last long before Kim knocked him back to the ground unconscious with a hard right hook.
"I was so not in the mood for this," the former Pink Ranger muttered as she reached down and pulled her bag free from the thief's arm.
Shrugging her backpack back onto her shoulder, Kimberly shook her head in disappointment; it seemed that sometimes humans were no better than beings like Rita and Zedd given the chance. Fortunately, there were always those like the soccer players to balance things out. It was like Zordon had once said, one doesn't have to have a Morpher or a Zord to have the heart of a Ranger.
