The thrumming of the TARDIS laced the background of his thoughts, but other than that the room was silent. The rising and falling of the Doctor's body beneath the blankets drew in and out in time with Turlough's shaky hand as it swept through his fine blond hair.
It had been a trying day on both of them, and he did not blame the Doctor for finally giving in to slumber. He had often wondered if people of Gallifrey slept at all. Turlough wondered now if Gallifreyan's dreamed as well.
The still form of the Doctor shifted. The young man stopped running his fingers over the soft strands, and jerked backwards. Had he been awake the entire time? Turlough panicked a bit, suddenly realizing he did not really know how long he had been in the room. When he was sure the Doctor was very much asleep he titled lower and passed his lips over the man's forehead. It would not do at all to be caught in such a position, and he left the room, pausing momentarily to gaze one last time on the peaceful figure.
As the door clicked shut the Doctor opened his eyes slowly. He smiled.
