Führer's Orders 1.5

Edward Elric stood outside Central Command. His brother had finally regained his body three months prior. For the first month, Ed had been helping Aru become content with the sensations associated with living and helping with other various rehabilitation necessities. The next month, the young State Alchemist let Winry know of Aru's return, and the mechanic promptly came to the younger Elric's aid. Mere weeks later, the two had declared their love for each other, thus leaving Ed to deal with his bastard colonel on his own.

Ed's stomach twisted in anticipation for the older alchemist's lectures and jokes. Edward made his way to Roy's office with little difficulty and had simply tossed his report onto the colonel's desk. Upon noticing Mustang's larger pile of more important paperwork, Ed turned to leave, knowing the colonel wouldn't have time to read his file. However, Roy did not allow him to exit but asked him to sit and read, for he had something to tell his young, blonde subordinate. This command—no, request—increased Edward's heart rate, which had already been high in anticipation for the yelling and the fighting that usually accompanied his visits with his commanding officer.

For the next few hours, Edward laid stretched across the dark navy leather of the office couch with a worn copy of one of his favorite fiction books. Edward often found himself rereading paragraphs as he found his attention becoming more and more focused on the man behind the desk. Edward, of course, thought his attention was slipping due to anticipation of being yelled at, but he couldn't explain why he constantly felt the colonel's gaze on him.

Eventually, Mustang finished his paperwork and walked to Ed. He grabbed the boy's elbow and pulled him off the couch. Edward struggled as his heart quickened its pace in his chest yet again at the contact with his superior. When Roy had finally hauled Ed to his car, Ed asked to where he was being taken.

"Führer's Orders," Roy remarked vaguely, and Edward clambered into the car.
