Elsa had been dancing with Hans for at least an hour now. If she was honest, he was quite charming actually. But still she did not let these thoughts cross her mind. She couldn't do this to her sister.
But then again, do what? Her sister was getting married to Kristoff. She probably couldn't care less about Hans. And why should she? So why would this be a issue?
Still she banished these thoughts from her mind. It would be unheard of. The exiled traitor courting the queen. Whatever next!
But as the night went on she silently pondered more and more about this. Was it feasible? Did it, actually matter? Surely she could court whoever her heart desired. She was queen! Elsa did not consider Hans' original motive for marrying Anna: to get the throne. All she thought about was handsome Hans and what it might be like for her to have a boyfriend for once. She could spend endless night and moments with her true love for once, and never, not for one moment, think 'my life would be so much better if I was Anna'. She could kiss her boyfriend who was perfect for her.
Maybe Hans wasn't a monster to Anna after all. Maybe he just wasn't the right one for her.
Eventually Anna and Kristoff joined the party.
"Doesn't Kristoff look fetching in a suit!" Anna exclaimed.
"Quite," she mumbled, 'but not as handsome as Hans,' she thought, hiding a smirk.
Hans seemed to being paying more and more attention to Elsa the later it got, and with every dance he brought her closer. Elsa could feel his breath on her face, it was warming and melted away her frozen exterior. So they began to speak.
"Lovely night, isn't it ma'am?" Hans began.
"Elsa. Please. Call me Elsa. And yes, it's.. magical."
"Sorry, er, Elsa. Food's wondrous. Just the way Anna wanted it before.." he broke off.
Elsa awoke from her mind lapse.
"Before you mistreated her and left her to die." she retorted.
"You killed her!"
Elsa felt a pain in her chest. She could say so many things to defend herself, that were true, but she didn't feel like she could justify herself on this. She had killed Anna. She brushed a tear from her cheek.
"Go. Go home to your stinking Southern Isles as thirteenth heir to the throne and stay there. I don't know why you were invited anyway."
"Elsa, please." His face softened. "Don't."
"Hans!" Anna jerked Hans' shoulder and shouted at him. "Elsa told you to leave."
Elsa felt the same sting of longing and loneliness as before. Hans had shown compassion towards her, and once again she had turned him away. He had made her feel like no-one had before.
Loved.
"Hans.." she mumbled, "stay."
Anna shot Elsa a shocked look but with an assuring nod, she turned back to Kristoff nonchalantly.
Elsa couldn't breathe. She found her mind swirling uncontrollably. Should she trust Hans?
She couldn't not. She.. she loved him. She loved Hans more than she loved Anna. 'What a horrible thing to think,' she thought. 'I love a man I just met more than my own sister.' But that was it. She was hopelessly in love and hell could she fight it.
So once again Elsa fell into Hans' 'open door'. The magical sweeping romance she felt when with him was gorgeous. Like rich, warm chocolate on a cold winter's day. She saw his hair fall into his eyes and swept it from his face with a graceful flick. Every bit of him was beautiful and precious to her, from his shoes to his floppy brown hair. When Elsa was with Hans, every part of her felt at home.
She forgot about Anna and Kristoff, and even Olaf. Elsa felt like only she and Hans were in the room. Elsa had never felt like this before, and it was amazing. Her gaze at the man had once been so full of bitter hatred, but was now constructed simply from awe and passion. Her love for him was endless it seemed. There was no song-singing or speaking of this passion, but they both felt it as clear as day.
Not once did Elsa again think of Hans as Anna's ex-fiance, and Anna was so enveloped in Kristoff that she didn't notice that the two had spent so much time together.
It felt to Elsa as if they were truly meant to be.
*AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know I basically said the same thing over and over, but I wanted to make this chapter longer than the last and I told myself nothing would 'happen' in the second chapter.
Please keep reading! And please reply if you'd like.*
