A/N: Hey people! Sorry for not updating in almost a year. I understand if you want to come at me with torches and pitchforks or something. Please don't actually do that. Anyway I've had a busy schedule. I decided to give up on fanfiction awhile to focus on school. During the summer I had writers block for this story and forgot about it. And finally these past few months have been spent getting used to the torture that is high school. Yeah… that's my only excuse. I might want to hire someone to protect me. SORRY! I did say not to expect to that many updates, and yeah, I realize it's been months but I just don't have any free time anymore. I will try my best to finish this story but don't expect chapters to come fast.
Winner of Question: AnnabethandPercyJackson17! Congratulations for answering my question first. The answer was Eddie and Maurice.
Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson or anything else that Rick Riordan wrote.
Thalia POV
Even after we were about a mile away from that candy shop I still couldn't stop thinking about what I saw. It had only been for a split second. For that split second I could've sworn that that old women's face had changed. I wanted to write it off as just a trick of the eye. A coincidence. I knew better. Demigods don't have coincidences.
Luke was carrying Annabeth as we were walking around in the forest. I think we were in Central Park. They were talking about how they were going to split the candy. They looked so happy, smiling and laughing together. I didn't want to spoil their mood. Demigods barely ever have happiness. I'm probably just being paranoid anyway. It's not like she followed us. Right?
Oh, who am I kidding? We're demigods. The old lady was probably a monster about to rip us apart. Sometimes I hate my life. I should probably say something.
"Hey, guys, there's something I want to say," both Luke and Annabeth looked up at me with questioning glances. "You remember that old lady from the candy store?" They both nodded still looking confused. "Well… I think that she was a monster." Luke set Annabeth down and looked at me in concern.
"What makes you say that Lightning Breath." I glared at him. I hated that nickname. It didn't even make any sense.
"When we were leaving, I looked back at her. For a second she suddenly looked hideous and evil, but she looked normal a second later." Luke paled a little.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Annabeth asked looking at me with shock.
"I didn't really think anything about it at the time!" Me and Luke kept yelling about whether I was stupid or not back and forth. Annabeth just rolled her eyes at us and sat down on a rock. Usually Luke and I arguments lasted until someone got electrocuted (coughLUKEcough). I think the longest one was… four hours? Yeah, four hours. Four was also the amount of times that I electrocuted him. This will probably take a while.
Annabeth POV
I sighed as I watch Thalia and Luke argue. Why did they always have to do this? They acted like an old married couple. Don't tell them I said that.
I sat down on a rock and looked down at the stream running past me. I smiled as I saw little silvery fish swim through the river. Even though I was a daughter of Athena, that didn't mean that all that I liked was books and knowledge. I was interested in other things. For example, nature. It was so, well, natural. It was beautiful to look at. For some reason one of my favorite things to look at in nature was the sea. Not sure why.
I understood that Thalia should have told us about the maybe-monster right away, but did they really have to make a big deal out of it. I mean, it's not like it would have killed us to not know. Even if the old lady did show up as a monster we would have been able to handle her… it… whatever the heck you would call a monster. You'd think I would know, considering I'm a daughter of Athena and all.
Suddenly my head snapped up. I closed my eyes and listened closely to my surroundings. You know how demigods have heightened senses? Well, that includes good hearing, and I could have sworn I heard something other than the argument of Mr. and Mrs. Castellan. Again, don't tell them I said that. Normal people would probably ignore any weird noises that they hear, but for a demigod ignoring strange things would get you killed.
There! I hear it now. With all the snarling and growling I heard, I probably would have thought it was two animals fighting. I would've too, if I didn't suddenly hear a loud scream pierce the air. Luke and Thalia stopped their argument (finally) and looked around for the source of the noise.
"What was that?" Thalia rolled her eyes at Luke's question. I think I hear a sarcastic comeback on the way.
"Gee, Luke, I don't think I'm right but I do believe that is the sound of someone screaming." Yup, there was that famous sarcasm. Luke rolled his eyes and looked around for the source of the screaming.

Luke POV
"Stupid Thalia. Why do girls have to be so difficult?" I muttered to myself. Honestly, why do they have to be so, well, like girls? They always overcomplicate things and make it about themselves. (A/N: This is not meant to be sexist, this is just Luke being frustrated. I have nothing against girls. That would be weird considering I am one)
I walked closer to the source of the noise. They were coming from the side of the river that we were on. Whatever was going on was being blocked from sight by some bushes and trees. I drew by dagger and looked back at Thalia and Annabeth. They both nodded at me silently, and we crept toward the noise.
I know what you're thinking. Why are we going towards the suspicious noise? I mean for all we know the noise could be coming from some guy murdering a kid, and if we went to him we would be his next victim. The only thing I have to say to that is that we are demigods, so, yeah.
I crept up to the bushes and hesitantly moved them aside. What I saw made my blood run cold.
It was the old lady from the store. Although, the only reason I could tell it was her was because of the clothes she was wearing. The rest of her looked totally different. She looked hideous. Her face was contorted into an evil expression. Her eyes glowed red and dripped with dark blood. She had a head full of snakes and large bat-like wings. Her hands had long, sharp talons. And to top it off, she was holding a whip that was on fire. (This description comes from both The Lightning Thief and The Ultimate Guide)
That wasn't the only thing that frightened me. Curled up in a ball underneath where she was flying was the boy from the candy shop. He looked terrible. He was covered with many cuts and burns, no doubt from the whip. His was pale, almost ashen, and his eyes were closed. He most likely passed out. I heard Thalia growl and the sight and Annabeth whimpered.
You might be wondering how I was feeling about this. Well, I tell you. I was feeling two things right now. One of those things was horror. I was horrified about what was happening to this kid. He looked like he was Annabeth's age. I shivered at the thought of Annabeth being attacked like that.
Oh yeah, the second thing I was feeling. I was feeling furious. This was all the god's fault. The kid was obviously a demigod, I mean, why else would a monster be attacking him. You might not have think that I noticed because I was focused on making sure we didn't mess up on our little excursion, but I did notice the kid. I noticed that we was small and thin looking, like he hadn't been eating well. I noticed the tattered and dirty clothes he was wearing. I noticed the sad look in eyes. I noticed that he was stealing from the store we a regretful expression. He was a runaway, just like me. Just like Thalia. Just like Annabeth. Like I said earlier, this was the god's fault. This was the effect of their neglect. I hope their happy with themselves, knocking up clueless mortals and leaving them alone with children who they knew would one day get killed. They did it so many time, I doubt that the godly parent of the kid who was about to die would even bat an eye.
I ended by mental rant when Annabeth tugged on my sleeve. She looked at me with determination.
"That's a Fury," she said while looking over to the kid, "her and her sisters are servants of Hades, goddesses of revenge and retribution. They're really powerful." I wonder where she learned that? What am I thinking, she's the daughter of the goddess of wisdom. "We have to help him." Annabeth said, while taking out the dagger that I gave her. I looked over to Thalia to see what she thought. She looked at me, looked at the kid, and then nodded. She conjured her shield from her bracelet and her spear. I nearly shuddered at the sight of her shield. It was so creepy. The shield had the head of Medusa on it. She was not a monster you want to see unless you want to turn into stone. Not something I would suggest.
I got ready and held up three fingers as a signal to go.

When I reached one we all sprung from the bushes and ran towards the monster. She didn't expect someone to help the boy she was attacking so taking care of her wasn't too hard. I went in front of her and started waving my hands around.
"HEY! SNAKE FOR BRAINS, LOOK OVER HERE!" My distraction worked. She flew away from the kid and snarled at me.
"How dare your interrupt my kill."
"Well too bad, you're not killing anyone today." I snarled back at her. She looked angry.
"I was have orders from my lord to kill this boy, and kill him I shall. If you insist, though, I will kill you first!" As she finished speaking she lunged at me. I just stood still and made not move to stop her.
"Goodbye demigod, get ready to-" she was interrupted by the spear that was sticking out through her stomach. You see, while I was talking to her, Thalia worked her way around the clearing that we were in to nail her from behind.
I watched with satisfaction as she crumbled into golden dust. Good riddance.
I quickly went over to the boy. Thalia and Annabeth were already leaning over him. When I got over I winced. He didn't look to good. Most of the cuts that he had were still bleeding, and he had some nasty second degree burns. His breathing was labored, and I knew that that wasn't a good sign. Annabeth looked up at me.
"She said that her lord had sent her. That means that she was sent by Hades. Why was he after him?" I shrugged at her question. I didn't know, and I didn't care about the reason. This just gave me another reason to hate the gods. They sent monsters after young, helpless, kids.
Thalia looked at the kid, a worried expression on her face.
"Luke, how are we going to heal him? We don't have any ambrosia." I muttered a curse at that. I completely forgot about that. This kid won't last an hour if he didn't get any medical help. I sighed.
"Let's just try to wrap the wounds. Maybe we can take him to a hospital or something." Thalia nodded.
As Annabeth got out some of the bandages and gauze that we had, Thalia helped me to bring the kid over to the stream to wash out his wounds. We set him down near the edge and began to clean out his cuts. Suddenly, I heard Thalia gasp.
"Luke, look." I watch in amazement as his cuts healed. How the heck did that happen? Then I noticed how the cuts that were healing had water on them. Me and Thalia watched in fascination as the water from the river healed him. In a matter of minutes he was perfectly healed. Thalia and I looked at each other with wide eyes. There was only one explanation for this that I could think of.
He was a son of Poseidon.
A/N: Well, that's the chapter. I hope you like it and again, sorry for taking so long.
Question: What does Quintus means?
