June-2011

Elsa could hardly breathe, she had been running for nearly three hours and the gun she found was really heavy. The aliens were getting closer and the robot was plodding along after them. The streets were abandoned and derelict, there were at least three complete house in the neighbourhood...the rest had been blown to smithereens. The sky was turning a darker shade of blue and she needed to lose the aliens. She quickly darted between cars and stumbled behind a pile of rubble nearby. The gleaming lights from the robot streaming over her head as they walked straight past her and carried on down the street. Phew, she thought as she grabbed a boulder for support as she stood up, she glanced around and chose a house to sleep in. As she clambered over scraps of previous lives and through a maze of cars, Elsa wished she had Jeremy with her. She wanted to snuggle up to him and fall asleep in his warmth; she never thought that she could miss someone so much.

The house Elsa had chosen to stay in was huge; it was white brick with red paned windows which seemed to glow in the darkness. The door creaked as it opened into a grand entrance area; the room had ornate furniture and pictures all over the walls of a man and a woman.

I hope you got out... she thought. The rest of the house seemed to follow suit with expensive furniture and lashings of paintings on the walls. To her left was a large fireplace with burnt out logs, she leant down and placed her hand on the logs. To her surprise they were still warm; the couple must have left not that long ago.

Elsa clambered up the white staircase which was beautifully pristine, at least up until the eighth step which was smothered in blood; the steps continuing up had the same affliction. She carried on up the stairs, following the blood trail as she did so. From the looks of it, it was heading towards a small room at the end of a hall. The floorboards creaked beneath her feet and all was fine until Elsa realised something out of the corner of her eye , something moving in the darkness. She quickly turned to face it but nothing was there, she heard the pitter patter of feet and moved closer towards the sound. She opened the door beside her and standing there looking at her was a boy, with a small mop of blonde hair and greyish blue eyes , no older than three ,with a batman shirt on.

"Hey!" she said, walking into the room.

The boy didn't reply, but he pointed to something behind Elsa and she had a nasty guess as to what it was. Slowly and quietly she held the gun in front of her and switched the safety off (she learned that from TV shows). Then with one swift movement, with her eyes closed, she sprung round and pulled the trigger three times, hearing the boy running off screaming as she did so. Her eyes opened to see a teenage girl, probably fifteen, with lifeless green eyes and chocolate brown hair slide down the wall, leaving a blood smear as she did so. When she reached the floor, she tumbled over and Elsa saw the harness on her back.

"Oh god!" she ran to the girl and turned her over. "Oh god! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!"

The girl coughed ,moved her hand up to Elsa's face and slowly whispered , "Thank...you!" And then the girl went all limp and her head rolled back.
