The party was in full swing when they arrived. Every where she looked, Anna could see people dancing, laughing and chatting with each other. A tall man with broad shoulders and a smile that could blind you walked towards them with two martinis in his hands.
"hey guys! You're late!" he said, handing them the drinks
"sorry Dan, we got a little lost down the road" Tom said, sipping his drink
"yeah well... No excuses!" he laughed "oh hey doll! How have you been?" he asked Anna, draping one arm over her shoulders
"oh well you know... The usual, teaching bratty kids how to read" Anna replied, a hint of sarcasm in her voice
"Not for long though ay?" Tom winked at Anna, putting his arm round her waist. For the past three months, Anna had been going to audition after audition trying to complete her dream of becoming a Broadway star. So far? Zero luck.
More people started to come over, dressed in beautiful dresses and pristine tuxedos.
"Tom! You finally came! And oh I'm sorry I don't think we've met yet?" she held out her hand and Anna shook it politely
"I'm Anna, Tom's girlfriend"
"Oh! You didn't say you had a girlfriend..." she said looking at Tom "Well I'm Scarlet, sure Tom's probably mentioned me" she winked. Anna laughed nervously
"so! Tell me all about it, how did you guys meet?"
Anna and Tom looked at each other "Well..."
