Author's Note: These oneshots are old. Very old. So please be mindful of that in your reviews. I know the plot, including Itachi's motivations in Naruto has changed immeasurably.
Itachi knew Sasuke was different from them.
Sasuke saw Itachi as an obstacle.
So Sasuke tried to become more powerful.
He trained.
He wanted to become like his brother.
Better even.
So he tried. He tried to grasp the power. Unlike them.
They didn't try…
Sasuke was different from them.
He didn't use Itachi…didn't take ownership of his brother's accomplishments...
Sasuke tried to gain his own power…
You always wanted to become more powerful…
…so I leave you alive…
…to gain your wish…
…and perhaps to end this one's existence…
...little brother…
