Merry Christmas

A lone Blue Jay sat on the Club House steps. Wrapped tightly in a wool blanket and a knitted scarf around her neck. She stared out at the park grounds, which were covered even tighter than she was. Dead trees that had snow on one side of the branches from the harsh wind that morning, and the tracks in the pure plush ivory from were Muscleman and High Five Ghost drove to and from work.

The Blue Jay let out a puffy sigh, releasing a small puff of hot air. She loved Christmas but hated the cold. The Double Edge Sword of winter; beautiful snow but horribly cold. She looked around taking in the sparkly blanket under the lampposts and what tried to reach the moon. This was the first time in a long time she had, had a White Christmas. The Jay pulled the blanket tighter as she shivered.

The house door creaked open and a tall dark Blue Jay shuffled though, holding two cups of hot Choco. He, himself, was bundled in scarves, thick winter jackets, and mittens hanging out of his coat pocket. The male Jay successfully maneuvered himself out the door and handed a steaming cup to his girlfriend.

"I thought I would find you out here," he gulped some of his hot beverage, "Why are you out here, Mel?"

Mel took a long sip of her welcomely warm drink, "Because as much as I despise the cold, I love how the snow looks," Mel turned towards Mordecai, "What about you?"

"Making sure you're okay," he shrugged, "And to tell you to come in; dinners ready." Mel giggled and picked herself up.

As the pair walked inside the Club House, everyone was hustling into the dining room. Mordecai pulled her along and sat her beside him. After a moment of silence, processed by a few moments to quiet down Rigby, the workers began eating. As per every years tradition, and just to bug Rigby, the Park Workers never opened their presents until after Christmas dinner; anybody who tried would open theirs last.

It didn't take too long for everyone to finish and as soon as the last fork dropped, Rigby dashed to the Christmas digging for his name on holiday wrapping. Rami followed, albeit slower, and pulled Rigby away from the tree. She sat him down a couple feet away and pulled out a gift. The rectangular box was dressed in sparkly red wrapping. A small yellow nametag read 'Rigby'. Rami handed the box to Rigby, who tore into it like a wild animal.

"I hope their kids take after Ram," Mordecai whispered to Mel.

After creating a confetti tornado, Rigby revealed a dried clay slab. He turned the slab over in his hands, confused, until he saw paw prints. One paw was larger than the other and under them where their names. It was from the wet concrete sidewalk of their first date. Rigby's eyes began to water and his tail curled around him. He felt Rami's tiny arms wrap around his neck as his friends aww'd at them.

Mel smiled and went to the tree. She pulled out a small box and handed it to Mordecai. She sat down next to him. Rigby and Rami sat on the table facing their friends as the others gathered around behind them. Mordecai carefully opened the package. Almost painstakingly for the others around him.

When he finally got through all the paper, he was faced with a black jewelry box; long like one for a necklace. Mordecai glanced at Mel, who was blushing horribly, with raised curiosity. He pulled up the lid and pushed back some tissue paper. Behind it all, was a plastic wand. It read something, on a digital panel. Mordecai pick it up to look closer. It couldn't be. No. Could it? On the small device was a tiny plus. Stunned Mordecai turned to Mel, for confirmation. She nodded.

"I'm pregnant."
