Story of Our Own
Chapter 1
Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes turned into hours. Hours turned into days. Marissa slowly threw her ball to her wall and back. It was her third time trying to escape and getting caught. Her mom locked her in her room and made sure to bar her windows. 'Grounded' is what her dear, dear mother called it. More like prison is how she thought of it. Marisa traced the fresh scar near her right away that she got after her second try. She was beaten senseless with her little brother being forced to watch. According to her mother he was too young to be abused. Gee, great. More like her cover story if Marissa ever went to the cops. She tried once but her mom showed them Jonah who was only 18 months and said I must have been faking it for the attention. They believed it and Marissa was trapped in that house being abused for even thinking of going to them. Her door swung open, startling her in mid-thought. Her mother stood there raging in all her glory.
"Get up," she snarled.
"Oh boy," Marissa thought.
It was time for another beating, but apparently that wasn't the idea. Her mother grabbed her by the back of the neck and dragged her to the front.
"If I EVER see you here again, I will go to the police myself and make sure to it you are never seen. You can rot in jail for all I care and little Jonah wont even remember you," she whispered harshly into her ear before throwing her out.
Marissa sighed and sat out there in hiding as she waited for her mother to leave. She had to get Jonah. She didn't want him to grow up like her. She wouldn't dare let it happen. His birthday was next week. That's when the abuse always starts. For her it was younger, but if she was gone...so was his innocence. What was left of it that is.
