Prologue ll
OKAY I HAVE SOMETHING VERY QUICK TO SAY: I'M SORRY. I've been so busy! Even after exams! ;_; okay- please enjoy this chapter!
P.S: If you can't handle blood or gore, don't read!
5 hours. We have been at the amusement park for 5 hours. Talk about exhausting! Mother and Father had a very tired look on their face, but kept a smile. We're on our way back home now. I'll miss this place. As I got in the car and buckle my seatbelt, I propped an elbow up on the side door, lowering the window to let air in. It was still warm. I saw very few stars in the sky along with a few birds gliding in the air. The wind brushed my bangs away from my forehead, revealing my pale skin. As father started to drive, the rumbling and vibrations of the car lulled me into a deep sleep. It was so peaceful. It felt like time was still. I didn't want anything to change. I hope it never does. My mouth curved into a slight small smile. The rumbling of the car engine stopped, and I peeked open my eyes.
"Ximena," Mother said, "we're home." I stretched my back and yawned. I jumped out of the car, and closed the door carefully as my father opened up the car trunk. I looked around our neighbourhood. Actually, we live in quite an isolated place and everyone lived quite far from us, but there were still a few houses around.
"Honey, come here." Father called. Walking towards him I replied,
"Yes?"
"Please bring this inside and put it in the freezer." He handed me a white box. I held onto it tightly. "Don't drop it!"
"Is it my cake?!" I asked, eyes gleaming.
"Hmm, maybe." He chuckled. "While you bring that inside, I'll hold your stuffed bee for you." I nodded, making my way inside. Humming, I opened the freezer and carefully placed the cake inside. I closed my eyes, breathing deeply. I really had fun today.
"Father!" I called out. "I put the cake in the freezer!"
No response. He probably didn't hear me. I walked around the room, pondering upon a variety of topics.
...What's taking them so long?
"Mother?" I said aloud. "Mother, what's taking you both so long?" I headed for the front door, only to be abruptly opened.
"Ximena!" I jumped. Oh! It was mother! Smiling, I looked up into her eyes. She was not smiling. Taking short and fast paced breaths, she grabbed my shoulders. I frowned. "Ximena, I need you to go out through the back door and run as fast as you can."
"What-?"
"Ximena!" She tightened her grip, tears spilling out of her eyes. "It may not be safe out there but, run to the nearest police station. You remember father showing you the route, right?"
"Yes...but why-"
"Think of it," she laughed, choking on her words, "think of it like the marathon we ran together last year. How fun was it? When we held hands and ran at the finish line together, just imagine it like that. Go to the police station, just- run, please Ximena! GO!" Mother, hugging me tightly, broke down. Sobbing, crying, then pushed me away, and slammed the door shut. I am...scared. This was all very sudden and I didn't want to leave my Mother and father. I puffed up my chest confidently and opened the front door, peering outside. I'll make sure Mother feels better!
"Mother! Come back! There's no need to be- afraid…?" My mother held a pocket knife, a few centimeters away from her chest. Her hands were covered in blood. I opened my mouth to cry out her name but, I then noticed my father bleeding on the floor. I looked at the direction my mother was looking. A murderer. He held a gun. Did they not notice me?
"IF YOU KILL MY HUSBAND, I'LL
KILL MYSELF TOO. That way, YOU'LL NEVER GET THE MONEY!" Did this mean father was still alive...? Father..!
"FATHER!" I screamed and ran to him, kneeling beside him. He coughed up blood. It went on my hand. The excruciating pain my father was going through, killed me. It hurt me deeply too. My heart squeezed itself and hot tears ran down my face. "Father no, PLEASE, don't die on me! Daddy please!" I bent down, putting my forehand on his, crying and screaming.
"He's going to die anyways. Blood loss, you know?" Was the murderer speaking to me? "Just give me the money, and everything will be alright." He walked closer. But not in my direction.
"The problem is..we don't have the money..." My mother murmured.
"Hm? What was that?" The murderer tightened his grip on his gun.
"We don't have the MONEY!" I've never heard my mother scream like that.
"Mother, what's going on?" My voice was shaking.
"Shut up, we don't need you here!" The murderer snapped at me. "Nor do I need you to talk! You're just making things harder."
"Ximena, stay quiet please!" Mother said aloud. She gripped on the knife and held it closer. Mother please don't kill yourself. I started to weep, and brought my hands to my eyes. I forgot they were covered in father's blood. What do I do?
"X-Ximena…" I turned around.
"Yes father?!" He pulled out his mobile cellphone.
"Call, the poli-"
Bam!
...Blood. There was blood sprayed everywhere. Father's arm slumped to the ground. He was shot again. Mother screamed. So did I. I couldn't take it.
"Try calling the police and I'll kill your mother next, kid." The murderer was definitely talking to me.
I saw blood and gore everywhere. I can't take it. I CAN'T! I kept screaming and screaming and hugged myself into a ball. Hopeless was what I was.
"What's going on?!" I heard the neighbours' voice. Multiple voices. The neighbours on both sides were sprinting as fast as they could to our house. "Wha-? Oh my god! SOMEBODY CALL THE POLICE, THE AMBULANCE!" I shut my eyes and the last thing I heard was a gunshot, mother screaming, and a knife falling to the ground.
