GOOD END

When he woke up, everything was over.

It felt like it had been years since the last time he slept in his own bed. His hands instantly went for his neck. Skin. Rather than the smooth collar, his fingertips were able to touch his skin. The suffocating bind of the REAL had no more holding on him. After all, he did it. He actually fulfilled his ridiculous mission.

Keima Katsuragi was finally back in the current timeline and he needed to make up for lost time.

The first thing he did was the most reasonable action to do: he played games. Mountains of games were left untouched especially since the goddesses asked for his help specifically. That was now a thing of the past. Now, it was an intimate affair between him and his games. Even without practice, his hands still gracefully handled a number of controllers. Immersed in the 2D world, he had found his inner peace.

Or he should have.

Eventually, he had to eat dinner downstairs. And while skipping was always an option, he thought that maybe seeing his present mom would erase the embarrassing horror of his past mom.

"What's this? You actually came to eat without me dragging you down here!" His mom clapped in approval. It must truly be a momentous moment for her.

"Five-minute break. That's all." He mumbled. Maybe skipping was the better option after all.

"My, if only I knew then I would've cooked something special tonight!" She squealed and soon enough, the usual one-sided conversation took place.

But they weren't always one-sided. His supposedly sister usually took on the duty of engaging in whatever conversations she had with his mom. She was at least that much useful. Speaking of which, where was she?

"Hey, mom?"

"Yes, honey?"

Then again, her absence wasn't that particularly bothering him.

"It's nothing. You're just being too noisy again." He casually said.

"That's because you never listen." She huffed at him.

The rest of the night and the early morning after was spent entirely on games. Elsie didn't go home either.

The last thing he expected was that he came back on a Sunday. Going to school right after all the things he went through was definitely not his idea of celebrating. The only consolation he could get was that he never did listen in class so with two PFPs in hand, he grudgingly started walking. So far, his return was uneventful. Perfect. He didn't need any unnecessary side quests or extra missions. REAL bonus content may be just as crappy as the main content.

"Look out!"

All of a sudden, he was caught in an embrace.

As a speeding motorcycle sped by inches away from them.

"Watch where you're going!" His savior shouted at the reckless driver. The voice was all too familiar. "Seriously, that was dangerous."

It made his head turn. And just as expected, it was none other than Yui Goido. Just one day of rest and his previous assignment has already come to haunt him. As if he could let her faze him.

"Hey, let go of me." He ordered. He now has no responsibility to entertain her anymore. With the mission accomplished, her love points did not matter at all.

She immediately stepped back and bowed in apology. "Ah, sorry!"

"As long as you understand-"

"Yui! You coming?" To Keima, a mere background character interrupted him.

"Yeah, just a sec!" Yui shouted back and then turned to him. "I have to go. By the way, I play the drums for the 2-B Pencils. We're performing next week again. Drop by if you're interested. Also, you should be more careful too!"

"What?" He tried to ask but she already sprinted off. What kind of greeting was that? A joke? That was really abnormal behavior even for her. Usually she would be jumping on this chance to be with him and just now she brushed him off.

She wasn't that far ahead though. He even managed to pick up the conversation they were having.

"You know him?"

"No idea. Besides, it's not like I'll see him again or anything."

Keima stopped in his tracks.

This phenomenon was not something new to him. In fact, it has happened quite a lot to his previous conquests. A total reset. But for it to happen to Yui, a vessel of a goddess… meant he had to confirm if it was also true to the other five.

"What a pain." He sighed.

Fast forward to later, he was right. Every single one of them had forgotten about devils and goddesses. And not just that, they had forgotten him. There was only one possible explanation for this. The reason why these girls were only able to remember the affairs was the same reason they made them special from his other conquests: goddesses. So hypothetically speaking, without them, they would revert to being casual acquaintances again. It was truly convenient for him. This way, everyday life would be so much easier without dodging girls.

But then if he was to fully go back to his past lifestyle then how come he still remembers?

To be honest, he did not expect his memories to be this intact. After all, once he had fulfilled his duty, what good would remembering any of that do to him?

Was there still something left for him to do? No, that should not be the case. He made sure that everything was finalized unless there is a plot twist involved. Or maybe there isn't. It could be just a loophole in the plot due to lazy writing like in games. Then again, the REAL has never been reasonable to him.

This sort of scenario, he had already run through it in games. The hero, in a sci-fi setting, fought valiantly against the evil organization. Sacrificing a lot each time, he did what he could no matter how painful it was. And at the end, he finally found the perfect route for everyone. Yet no one would ever know. He would have no one to share these experiences. He would have no one to believe his story. He would always be alone.

To think that story would now apply to him. At the very least, it made him appreciate the game all the more.

But such an ending should not be so sad. After all, if nobody knew then that meant it would be that much easier to go back to his old way of living. He could breathe in the oxygen which his body knew as games.

So why then was he outside the school gates just in time for a specific someone to walk by?

Armed with his consoles, he blindly walked into the street when a car was about to run into him in a few moments. To his spectators, it looked like he was carelessly walking into his own accident but that's where they were wrong.

His glasses shone.

Everything even this moment was calculated by only him. Did they honestly think that he would let anything happen to his body? What else would he use to enter the realm of games! There was never a chance for injury to begin with because there was this girl among the spectators.

"Stop!"

And just like that, he was out of the road and into a girl's arms. It could have only been Yui's arms. Because who other girl would have the strength and the reflexes to get to him in time?

"Are you al-" She was out of breath from suddenly having rushed to him. Now that he was facing her, she just realized who it was within her arms. "Hey, aren't you the guy from before?"

He smiled. Just as planned.

"Us two really have strange fate."

When he woke up, everything was over. But then again, maybe it's worth the replay.

Shinra-ex-SOLDIER

Omake: Not So Chance Meeting

She blinked.

"I'm not so sure about fate but we should stop meeting like this."

He casually broke free from her grasp and carried on walking. As expected, she followed suit. It was protocol to thank her but then that was an immediate signal of ending the conversation. He did not set up this situation just so he could not activate any flags.

"Naturally, while that would be much safer, I'm not so sure fate has the same thing in mind. After all, it's already happened twice now so what's stopping a third time?"

"I didn't know you were such a kid…" A hand covered the giggle that was about to escape her mouth.

"Huh?! Who are you to tell me that?" He stopped and turned back to face her.

"Sorry, I haven't properly introduced myself, have I?" She delicately held his hand like a prince would a princess'. "I'm Yui Goido."

He supposed he could let that one slide. Considering that they were strangers, ruining the mood could offset his efforts. "Keima Katsuragi."

"As for what I said earlier… it's just that aren't you a bit too old to believe in things like fate? Plus, you're a guy."

"I'm one of the more inspired of our species."

"That's why we should meet on our own." Then she knelt on one knee and gave his hand a kiss. "How about it? A date!"

He sighed. "Always the player."

Here's another ending because the manga ended... I planned on posting this before the last chapter but well, my laptop freaked out and I didn't have another copy. At least it's here! (After half a year?)

NOTE: Keima's last line before the omake was taken from the manga. Well I postponed this long enough. So I might as well end this too.
