AN: I tried making it longer, but every time I go back to typing my cat hits my arm to get my attention. I'm not joking. He's needy. Well that, and I decided to keeping adding and extending scenes to try and lengthen it up and flow better. Even though I couldn't seem to get it to flow the way I wanted it to. :( Maybe I'm just sad about Kol? This chapter is just not up to par, but I really wanted to get this out. So I'll definitely go back and edit this when I have the time!

CHAPTER 2

Kol entered he and Davina's shared apartment to find his girl laying on the couch with a small container of ice cream, cookies, and whipped cream spread across the coffee table. She looked absolutely adorable, even though she was clearly distraught. Her hair was covering her face but he could still see the pout on her lips he instantly wanted to kiss.

"Are you alright, darling?" he asked. He tried to hide the laughter in his voice, but she didn't seem to really be paying much attention.

All she did was grunt in response.

He smiled, sitting next to her on the arm of the couch and moving her hair behind her ears so he could better see her. "Your conversation with daddy dearest not go so well?"

"No," she whined. "I ran out before we could actually talk. He said something-" She paused, not wanting to make the situation worse by bringing his name into it. "It was a stupid joke but it...irked me."

"What did he say?"

"It's stupid-"

"Just tell me," he interrupted.

She thought for a moment before telling him. As she spoke it was clear to him she felt silly over reacting. The history between him and Marcel was just that-history. They got into confrontations from time to time but it never escalated to the point of bruises or drawing blood. It was simply words-barbs at each other-to entertain one or the other. Kol was very good at holding grudges but he stopped going out of his way to make Marcel miserable long ago.

"I feel dumb being so upset about his," Davina said, sitting up to make room for Kol who gladly took his spot next to her.

Kol knew what he was supposed to do and say at this point. For Davina-

Two words that halted his thoughts. For Davina. He spent so long worrying and only thinking about himself that he forgot what it was like to put someone else before himself. He'd been doing it a lot lately-putting Davina first. He realized he hadn't made a decision in the past four years without asking himself, 'What would Davina think? What would Davina do?' But of course he liked to think she had the same thought process.

"Kol? Are you okay?"

Kol turned to his fiancee, forgetting what he was going to say. Marcel-Oh.

"I, uh-" He swallowed through a lump forming in his throat. "I'll talk to Marcel."

"You don't have-"

"He's long overdue for a good beating anyway." He leaned back, exiting out of her Gilmore Girls marathon-her go-to when upset.

She just glared at him. No words were necessary to convey her distaste for his statement or current action. No, he could see it clearly in her eyes. That didn't stop him from giving her an innocent 'What?'

"First, I was watching that-"

"No you weren't, you were wallowing into a pillow." He could have sworn he heard her growl. "To soon?"

She ripped the remote from him, before turning her show back on.

"I'll take him out for a drink," he assured her. "We'll figure it out."

"Thank you," she said, smiling.

"But you need to realize you don't need to fight my battles for me. Especially over such an unoriginal comment. He couldn't come up with anything else for me? I'm offended."

Davina laughed. "Of course you're offended."

"As I should be." He stood, retrieving two beers from the ice box before bringing them back to the couch. "I thought he'd be a better opponent."

Davina looked down to the beer in her hands, clearly suspicious. "Why are you handing me alcohol?"

"I need to ask you something. It's more of a favor for Rebekah." He set his drink down before opening hers and handing it back to her, encouraging her to take a few drinks. She would need it for this conversation. Kol had insinuated he'd seen the body jumping spell destroyed and as far as they knew they would have to scour the earth to find another one. And now it was currently residing in Rebekah's purse next to her lipstick and trail mix she liked to carry around.

"Why do you look so nervous?" She laughed.

"Rebekah wants to go back to her body."

"That's not possible, is it?"

"Well there is one quick way about it and it isn't like we wouldn't be doing the world a favor, right?"

"You mean kill her." Davina was visibly uncomfortable.

"Would that be a bad thing?" The host body-the former Eva Sinclair-was a murderous psychopath. She'd only surfaced once before Kol bound Rebekah to the body just as Finn had done to him. In turn it put her soul into a temporary purgatory that would only open once Rebekah was unbound from Miss Sinclair but would still give his dear sister enough time to jump out and into her own.

"I guess not, but that's the only option anyway. I don't remember the spell, do you?"

"Rebekah has the spell."

Davina looked at him in a way that made Kol uncomfortable. For the first time in a very long time, he couldn't seem to figure out what she was thinking. On one hand she didn't seem to care but on the other he could have sworn he'd seen an eye twitch. He'd blatantly lied to her about the spell. He'd sworn long ago he would never lie to her again. He was waiting for the ball to drop-anything to happen. The last thing he'd expected was for her to shrug her shoulders and say, "I'll help."

"You're not angry?" Kol asked hesitantly.

"No," she said, smiling at him sweetly before standing up. "I'm going to bed."

"I'll be in there in a few minutes," he said, releasing a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding.

"Okay."

The next morning Kol woke up on the couch-after being locked out of his bedroom-he immediately discovered Davina had decided to sneak out without a word. He felt a spike of anger when he opened the bedroom door to discover the bed already made and purse gone. They'd agreed long ago not to leave each other angry. Not after-

He hit the edge of the dresser and grasped it in his hand trying to stop himself from hitting the wall or door. His stomach suddenly clenched and chest tightened up in fear as his anxiety level began to rise. He slowly lowered himself to the bed and tried catching his breath.

Over a thousand years and he couldn't handle a near death experience that happened a few years ago? He'd been on the brink of death. Only a few more seconds and he would have been floating with the Ancestors-if that's where he would have gone. With all the blood in his past he was pretty sure they had something else in store for him then their version of an afterlife.

He tried thinking of anything but his brother cursing him-Davina, his niece, his brothers and sisters-but it all brought him back to the same conclusion. He was weak. He could easily be put in that situation again.

Jumping up he ripped the closet door open, dragging out the floor board. Kneeling, he stared at the contents underneath-he just needed to know it was there. His breathing evened out as he reached out to touch everything-taking inventory. The spells, the sealed black box full of his ashes, and all of the ingredients he would need-his back up plan.

The feeling of dread left him as he pulled out his phone.

Sitting in the corner of the bar, Davina was able to keep hidden in the shadows from any prying eyes. She had been avoiding the area ever since her conversation with Marcel. She'd decided if she ran into him she would talk with him, but she wasn't going to openly search him out. She may be embarrassed for running out but she was more ashamed with herself for not standing there and defending not only Kol but also herself. The vampire had a few years to come to terms with her and the former original being together. In a way he'd come to accept it but she still felt like her adoptive father didn't trust her judgement. She could take care of herself and he needed to realize that.

She jumped when her phone rang. Kol's name popped up on the screen. "Hey," she said, looking around her again..

"I thought we agreed long ago not to leave each other angry." Kol said, his tone clipped.

Davina closed her eyes. "I know. I didn't want to fight about this but I just need to know-why did you lie to me?"

There was a pause. "Rebekah wasn't going to be happy staying in that body for long and that was the simplest and easiest. I honestly don't know why I didn't tell you."

Davina noticed Josh enter the bar. "I have to go. I'm sorry I ran out this morning."

"And I'm sorry I lied about the spell. I love you, I'll see you tonight?"

"Of course. I love you too."

He took the seat across from her, grinning at her like a fool. "It's been awhile," he said sourly, looking at her pointedly, making sure she understood it was her fault in that area. His grin was still in place though, letting her know he was joking.

"I know," she shamefully said. "I'm sorry, we've been busy with the coven."

"I guess I can forgive you." He signaled to the waitress looking their way.

"How's Aiden?" Davina took a sip of her drink, still eying the rest of the bar.

Josh frowned, looking away. He was now clearly uncomfortable. Davina missed something and she felt horrible. She'd been so caught up in the coven and Kol she'd neglected her best friend. She couldn't even remember the last time she and Josh just sat and talked.

She reached into her pocket holding the ring in her hand. Something was clearly wrong with Josh and Aiden's relationship, if it existed at all, and she was about to spring huge news onto him about her and Kol's blossoming one.

"What's going on, Josh?"

"Your usual." The waitress set his glass down. Davina could see the blood swirling around like creamer.

He clutched his drink tightly. "We broke up. A few weeks ago."

"I'm sorry," she said soothingly, scooting her chair closer to him. She could see the tears welling in his eyes. She definitely wasn't telling him today.

"I broke up with him." He took his drink and downed it.

She didn't know what to say. The last time they spoke he and Aiden seemed completely in love, both willing to fight hordes for their relationship. She chose to remain silent, allowing him to talk if he wanted.

"I did it to make it easier on him. Their numbers are dwindling, you know."

Davina knew all to well. The wolves had been dedicated to Hayley and Jackson and at one point Aiden. And of course, by extension, the Mikaelsons. They fought Dahlia-a psychotic old world extension of the family-tooth and nail all to protect their Alphas step-daughter and doing so many lost their lives.

"He wants to help where he can."

Davina's stomach clenched. "There are other ways isn't there?"

He shook his head with a tight smile. The tears started falling as he let out a sniffle. "According to that weird werewolf shaman, the only way to pass on the new genes is naturally. Through loyalty and commitment to the pack."

She scrunched her brow in confusion before it dawned on her. "Because it's magic."

The vampire nodded his head. "Just the first generation. After that it won't matter."

"I'm so sorry, Josh," she said again. She herself could feel her own tears forming. "I haven't been here for you when I should have."

"It's fine." He looked down into his empty glass.

"No it's not." She looked down at her phone to see the time and smiled in thought. "What are you doing tonight?"

Josh laughed callously. "Marcel already tried convincing me to go to that stupid dinner tonight. So don't even try."

Davina frowned. "I forgot he was even going."

"He feels bad about what he said." Josh signaled to the waitress again and mouthed, 'Bring them coming!' before turning back to his friend, whose eyes were wide and concerned. "What?"

"What did he say about our conversation?"

"Actually nothing, really. Just that he made a comment he shouldn't have about Kol. So what happened between you guys anyway?" Josh took his drink from the waitress, his smile back in place and the tears completely gone.

Davina smiled slightly. This was when Josh was in his element and able to forget his own drama and heartaches-when he was discussing and laughing over other peoples drama. That and shopping. She realized if she chose to wait in telling him he would most likely be more upset she waited so long to say anything.

"I'm not sure if I should tell you yet."

Josh looked her over. She could feel him studying her, trying to figure it out for himself. She was pretty sure she saw him eying her hand before she reached into her jacket pocket grasping the ring she'd taken off planning on putting it on after she told him the news.

"Are you going to tell me what I think you're going to tell me?" His grin grew when she gave him a toothy smile. Laughing he added, "Just tell me."

"Kol asked me to marry him," she said hesitantly, but she was still smiling. This was the second person she told and so far it was going in a completely different direction.

"You're getting married." It wasn't a question but a statement said in wonder. "Wow."

"I want you to stand by my side."

"Like you're maid of honor? You're not going to put me in an ugly salmon dress, right?"

Davina laughed, shaking her head. "Maroon. Definitely maroon."

"Well then, that's a definite yes."
