'Welcome to Time Square. If you are just now joining us, we are counting down seconds until the new year begins, and what a year its been. Lady gaga had passed away from unknown factors. The Buffalo Bills are heading to the Superbowl for the 10th time, hoping to win for the 5th time (a girl can dream) …'

'Be prepared for drunk drivers and mutants tonight folks, as they say, freaks come out at night. Stay safe and enjoy your New Y…'

'It's not even the New Year and the MRD captured a mutant for stealing a loaf of bread...'

'A mutant teen found brutally raped and murdered, more details later tonight…'

"You, young man, should be in bed."

Jolting out of the swiveling chair, popcorn flying around him, he turned off the monitors, while his cheeks burned a rosy red.

"I, uhm, wanted to stay up and wait until dad came home." To add to his cute charm, he smiled bright, in turn it began to dwindle, his mother not entertained by his answer. Of course, she didn't tolerate his lie, she's a parent, all parents can tell when their kid's lying, and all parents give their kids a chance to revise their answer.

"Okay. Okay. I wanted to stay up for the ball dropping."

She, his mother, crosses her arms, "Why didn't you just watch the ball dropping in the rec room?"

His brain tries to track down a simple explanation, get him out this web he weaved. Puffing out his chest, he opens his mouth to answer, then his shoulders slump.

"I got nothin'."

"Alright then, lets get you up to bed, we'll talk more about this in the morning."

"Technically, mother, it is mo…"

As soon as he started talking, he stopped. His mother gave him that look, the look. Yes, he mentions all parents a lot, but come on, can't they produce something uncommon? Instead of the look, they can give the dance, or the talk…oh wait, God no. Dammit, way to get his mind on the birds and the bees, Jesus.

Casting his gaze to the ground, as if its suddenly important, he sighed. "I'll just stop talking."

"That would be wise."

In silence, the two walked up to the main floor of the mansion, which received an upgrade from the last time they lived here. He's too young to remember what specifically happened all those years ago, from what Hisako said, the war between humans and mutants ended right at their doorstep. The X-Men were winning for a while, until they weren't. Humans had weapons that the X-men weren't prepared for, causing their ultimate demise, some left, some died, some captured to work as house slaves and pets for rich people, while others taken and tested on. This place used to mean something to his mother. Now, every time he looks into her eyes, he feels the anguish of loss, pain, and hurt.

Smirking, hoping to brighten up the mood, he looked up to his her, "Are we going to fill this place with actual students and staff, or are we gonna be it?"

Instead of answering him, she opened the door to his bedroom, "Your bed awaits."

With a grunt he climbed into his twin bed, "Come on mom, I'm not a child anymore, I'm 14. You don't have to watch me sleep."

"Apparently, I do, being as you like to sneak off into the unfinished basement. When I say bedtime is at 11, I mean it."

He nods in respect, before throwing the covers over him and dozing off to a soft slumber.

For a few moments, her intense eyes studied him, making sure he's fine and breathing regularly and normally, before heading down the hall to her own room. Finding it empty, her heart fell straight to her stomach. It's been three months, renovating and he hasn't shown up once. The loss of Captain America sent him into a rage that made him take off. Just, being alone in these troubling times, made her feel on edge, tossing and turning when she slept.

On top of her husband not being home, she listens to the news and radio stations, bad mouthing mutants. Another mutant raped, nothing's done. Another mutant is dead, nothing's done. Heinous crimes acted against mutants are going on and no one is around to help, not anymore. If the authorities aren't going to protect this special race then the next generation of X-men will, and this time, she'll make sure they do whatever it takes to help her people thrive in this work of hatred and fear against the mutant population.

Firstly, she needs a team and a student body. Where to start, she doesn't know, but she knows that she can no longer sit back and do nothing. Its time of action, its time to fight back, its time the next generation of mutants and X-Men take back their freedom. Its time.

I will try to update as often as possible, but I do have another fic that I am writing. Please be patient with me. Thank you. 😊 . I hope you enjoyed.
