A/N: Just something I've had in mind since writing "Sophia" :)

Mummy

"Daddy, do you think if I asked her nicely Aunty Jackie would be my mummy?"

Robbie smothered a grin as he looked in the rear-vision mirror at his daughter, "Why do you want Aunty Jackie to be your mummy?"

Sophia shrugged one of her small shoulders, "Because I love her," she said simply.

Robbie smiled, "I'm sure she loves you too, sweetheart, but I don't think she can be your mummy."

"Why not?"

"Because she's already a mummy."

"She has five children, Daddy, I don't think she'd notice another one," Sophia replied with the logic only a three year old child possesses.

"True…" he replied, concealing his amusement with some difficulty.

"So I think I'll ask her and then she could come live with us," Sophia continued.

"What about Jimmy and the others?"

"They can come too."

"And Uncle Mike?"

Sophia's face broke into a wide grin, "He could come live with us too and then I would have two daddies!"

Robbie pretended to be hurt, "Isn't one daddy enough?"

"Yes, but…Daddy, everyone else has a mummy."

Robbie turned serious, "I know, Princess, I know."

Sophia looked down at her hands, "So why don't I have a mummy?" she asked quietly.

Robbie had always known this day would come but he had hoped it wouldn't be so soon: how do you tell a toddler that her mother didn't want her?

"Because…your mother didn't realise how special you are," Robbie replied after a long moment.

"Didn't she love me?"

"I'm sure she loved you, honey, but she didn't love me," Robbie explained.

"Did you love her?"

"Not enough."

"Oh."

There was silence in the car for a long time before Sophia spoke again: "You love me though, don't you Daddy?"

"Of course I do."

"I love you too Daddy," she paused, "and I don't need to have a mummy. Not if I have you."

Robbie wiped away a tear at her words, wondering vaguely when he had become such a softie. "I don't need anyone else either, Princess, just you."
