945 BC, November 15th

The sound of agonizing screams echoed through the woods of what would later be known as La Push. The elders of the Quileute tribe were gathered around Kayla Mischalka to witness the birth of her child. There were those who had wanted to kill her and the child before it could be born. It was said that the child would not be natural, it would not be human. But the chief of the tribe Taha Aki could not bear to kill his sister. Kayla screamed as her contractions continued. The midwife's hands were covered in blood. Taha Aki remembered when his sister had discovered that she was with child. She had said that she met the most beautiful man she had ever seen. He had been absolutely perfect to behold, except for the redness of his eyes. He had seduced her, she had said. And after he had finished with her he vanished as if he had never been there. During her unusual pregnancy, in which she had had an unusual craving for blood, she had gone looking for him. For an explanation but she never found him. The men and women of the tribe called her baby a demon. For it was leeching the life from her as it grew in her womb. But Kayla loved her baby none the less. For this reason as she lay dying she begged her brother to protect and raise her child. "My baby is not evil", she had said, "It has no choice. I'm just not strong enough to carry her. Please, brother. She is special, and she is loved. Please, you have to protect her". Taha Aki could not refuse his sister's final request and made her a promise that would seal the fate of his sister's child. For he was chief of the tribe and all would have to obey him. The baby was too big. It had to rip Kayla open to be born. A sharp cry filled the air as the baby took its first breath. "It's a girl" the midwife announced. Kayla took deep breaths, she could feel the strength leaving her body rapidly, but she refused to die without having had a look upon her baby. "Give her to me, please" she held out her arms to her daughter. The baby was gently placed into her arms. The girl snuggled up to her mother and looked up at her with big blue eyes and gurgled happily. Kayla smiled and tears of joy filled her eyes "Hello..Ayasha. How beautiful you are". She was beautiful. The child had a cute button nose, full rosy lips, big blue eyes and tufts of black hair already crowned the baby's head. For a Quileute the child was unusually pale. Taha Aki commented on this strange paleness. Apparently the girl's father had been unbelievable pale as well. The elders looked at the baby and did not see any evil in her eyes and neither did Taha Aki. So, he vowed to raise the child as his own. His sister had lost too much blood to survive. Kayla died with a peaceful smile on her face with her daughter resting in her arms. The child cried when she could no longer feel her mother's heartbeat under her ear. Taha Aki picked up the child and bounced it lightly in his arms to calm her down.

Over the following days it became clear that the child was not and could not be human. Ayasha grew at an alarming rate. She was no more than two days old but looked as if she was four years old instead. She learned to speak within a day after she was born. The Quileute tribe had been scared of her and had pleaded with their chief to get rid of the child. Taha Aki refused. He had made a promise to his sister and besides the fact that she could not be human, she had shown no sign of maliciousness. In all intended purposes in her behaviour she was a normal child. She was curious about the world around her, she was kind and loved to explore the brooks and streams that ran through the lands. She liked to play, however most people kept their children away from her. They learned that the child would need both food and blood to survive. They discovered that when in a haze of hunger the child attacked one of the life stock and drained it of its blood. Despite the frenzied hunger for blood she never hurt a human. Over the course of several days in which she had grown to the size and intelligence of an eight year old the Quileute started to accept her as one of their own. They didn't understand what she was, but they no longer saw her as a threat. Taha Aki told her about their tribe and how they had the ability to turn into wolves at will. Ayasha was intrigued and asked a lot of questions. Everything was peaceful until not long after two weeks of Ayasha's birth women of the tribe began to disappear. The men went hunting for whatever it was that had taken their wives, daughters and sisters. They found a pale faced red eyed man who had slaughtered and drained the women of their blood. They turned and hunted the creature down and with great difficulty destroyed it. They called the creature 'a cold one'. They thought that would be the end of it. They were wrong. Two more creatures like the Cold One came to the tribe. A woman, who had been the mate of the vampire they had killed, and a man with dark hair and red eyes. Taha Aki took one look at the man and understood. The man bore to much a familiar resemblance to his niece and looked as his sister had described. This creature had been the cause for his sister's death. The woman came to the tribe for vengeance and began to slaughter most of the population. The man however stayed calm and merely seemed to search for something. He found Ayasha hiding in the undergrowth of a willow tree. He knelt in front of her "Hello, little one". The wolves were too busy fighting the cold woman to notice where the man had gone. The man smiled kindly "Do not be afraid. I will not harm you.". Ayasha crawled from the under the undergrowth towards the man and cocked her head curiously "Who are you?". The man looked her over and could not mistake her for anything but what she was "My name is Aro. I am your father, dear one". The girl blinked in surprise but said nothing, she reached out to him and showed him an image in his mind of her dying mother. Aro grinned "Remarkable". "Where were you?" Ayasha asked not unkindly. "At our home in Greece. There are people there who are very anxious to meet you, Carina" Aro replied. The girl furrowed her brow "My name is Ayasha. Ayasha Mischalka". Aro shook his head "No, dear one. That is not how it works. Only a father can pass down his name to his child. Therefore your name is Carina Volturi. I have come to take you home". "Carina" the girl tested out the name as it fell from her lips. Ayasha nodded satisfied with the way it sounded. "Where is home?" she inquired. "Far away in a land called Greece" he lifted her up into his arms and read every thought she had ever had. "These people here don't understand you, dear one. They don't even know what you are. I can teach you about what you are, what we are. You will be happy with me, Carina" Aro whispered in her ears. He started to carry her towards the camp site. They were in time to see Taha Aki's third wife stab herself with her knife to save her husband's life as he struggled in his fight with the cold woman. The cold woman was distracted by the scent of blood long enough for Taha Aki to rip her to pieces in his wolf form. Aro made no move to help "Such a pity" he murmured emotionlessly. Ayasha whimpered in Aro's arms. The tribesmen noticed Ayasha in Aro's arms and moved towards them. They screamed her name as Aro flashed them as far away as they could. The glimpse Ayasha got of the third wife taking her last breath and Taha Aki's howl of agonizing loss over both her and his wife were the last things she would see of the Quileute tribe for centuries.

The journey from what would become known as America in the 19th century to Greece was a long one. Carina, as Ayasha was now being called, kept growing at an alarming rate. She reached adulthood on her seventh birthday. From that day on she was stuck looking like a twenty year-old. Aro had taught her how to hunt to survive, helped her develop her gifts, helped her understand what they are and what her role in their world had to be. Carina soon found out that like her Aro had gifts of his own. He could read every thought and memory you have ever had by touching you. Carina had different gifts. She could make people see and believe anything she wanted them to. A gift Aro was happy to use within the ranks of the Volturi. It took a while for Carina to accept their ways, at the beginning it was hard for her to feed and kill the humans she was previously so fond of. At her arrival in Greece she was immediately introduced to her new family. She liked all her new uncles; Marcus and Caius, but her favourite family member was definitely her aunt Didyme. She was a kind and gentle woman, who had the ability to make everyone around her happy. Being around her was almost like having a mother, seeing as Carina had never had the opportunity to grow up with her own mother by her side. She was devastated when her aunt mysteriously died. Carina had her suspicions. After all her father had not been pleased to hear that Marcus and Didyme were leaving the Volturi. However she would never voice these suspicions out loud. She had come to know her father as a man who loved her deeply, but who would not let anything stand in his way. She knew that he would choose power over love any day. She feared what he would do to her if it ever came to a choice like that.

They did not stay in Greece for more than a century. Volterra, Italy became their new stronghold. As the Volturi grew in numbers so did their power. Aro had appointed his daughter as captain of the guard. Hereby she was responsible for upholding the law and doling out punishment to those who broke it. She became one of the worst vampires in history. She would toy with her victims and be merciless in her execution of lawbreakers. She would obey all her father's orders without question. Aro managed to turn her into the perfect soldier. He got everything he wanted when he found her. In the 1500s he created another vampire human hybrid with an Italian woman, in hopes of recreating what he had when he made Ayasha. The child was a girl as well. She was named Audriana and had power over the weather. Aro valued her gifts, but not as much as he valued the persuasive and manipulative power of his eldest child. Carina was the apple of his eye, and he didn't try to hide it. The resulted in a jealousy that prevented the sisters from creating a close bond. Aro thought his daughters would stay with him forever from their court in Volterra, but nothing ever really lasts forever. Or does it?

As you can see I am rewriting this story. I have heard from many of you that you have loved what I have written for it so far, but I thought it could use a clearer intro. The following chapters will be from Ayasha/Carina's point of view.

The name thing might be a bit confusing for you so I'll explain. The Quileute/her mother gave her the name Ayasha (means little one), I picked a native american name since that's what she was born into, it seemed only logical.

Aro didn't care about Kayla, he only cared about creating a hybrid child so obviously he would not care for the name Kayla had given his daughter. I thought Carina was a bit Italian sounding and since he spends most time in Volterra I thought it would be more fitting for her from his point of view.

Alyson is a name Carina gives herself after events that are going to happen. I hope this cleared some of it up to you.
