Saturday, April 3rd.

Percy

Percy didn't really do much on weekends, especially because he wasn't in school anymore. But nonetheless, this day was peculiar. Ruby hadn't woken up and pulled him off his bed at 7:00 in the morning, like every other day.

Ruby was, unsurprisingly, extremely energetic most of the time. While Percy enjoyed his time with Ruby, he was really relieved that he would be getting a break once she started going to school.

Percy cared deeply for his daughter, but he did get a pang in his heart whenever he thought of Annabeth. The darkest depths of his mind said it was Ruby's fault, but he refused to allow those thoughts to surface.

He sat on the couch with a blanket, a bowl of cereal, and watching TV. It was almost 11:00 when Ruby blasted out the door, loaded to the brim with energy.

Percy looked up, seeing Ruby standing 12 feet away in the hallway, holding up an orange shirt over half the size she was.

Ruby ran over to Percy, holding the shirt out in front of him, nearly suffocating him.

"Woah, woah, alright kiddo." He took the shirt from her, seeing that it was a Camp Half-blood shirt. He smiled, placing it on the couch next to him.

She picked it back up and pointed to the Pegasus in the middle of the logo.

"You got to ride flying horses?!"

"You see a Pegasus on the shirt and... instantly assume we rode them?" Percy raised his eyebrow.

"Why would you have a Pegasus on a shirt if you didn't get to ride them?" Ruby asked, confused.

"Well, you're not wrong about riding Pegasi." Percy answered.

The thought of camp reminded him of the letter to himself, and he came up with an idea to see if the letter was telling the truth in the beginning.

Percy stood up, walked to the fridge, and poured a glass of water, walking back to the couch. His plan might have been one of the smarter things he'd done in the past few years

Ruby sat down on the couch next to him, bouncing up and down, firing incoherent questions about Pegasi. Percy kept trying to quiet her down, which took multiple attempts.

"Alright kiddo, I need you to do something." Percy started, as he leaned forward and set the glass upside down on the table, without the water spilling.

"Yeah, what is it?" She glanced at the table. "Do I have to... pick that up?"

Percy smirked, leaning back into the couch. "Exactly. And don't spill the water."

Ruby stated at the glass, silent and unmoving. Percy watched for about 3 minutes.

"How?"

"Hm?"

"How do I do it?" Ruby asked.

Percy pushed all the water to the top of the glass, and then picked it up.

Ruby buried her face in her hands, "That doesn't help."

Percy chuckled, placing the glass back down.

"Think about it. Just say in your head "Hey, I want to pick up that glass, but I want the water to stay in, let's just keep it at the top" and then try." Percy suggested.

Ruby lifted her head, slowly reaching for the glass.

Percy stared intently, as Ruby grabbed the glass.

She lifted it up. The water stayed in. She laughed and pointed to it. "I did it! Look- I did it!"

Percy smiled.

And then the water splashed on the floor. Ruby and Percy looked down. Percy chuckled, taking the glass from Ruby.

"You did great Ruby!" He grinned, looking down at her. Ruby looked up at him, a look of amazement and happiness on her face, a look Percy couldn't forget.

"I just picked up water! ...How?" She exclaimed.

"Poseidon." Percy answered.

"Like... the one with the beard and trident?" Ruby's face contorted into confusion.

"That's the one." Percy set the glass down on the table, "He's my dad. So... your grandfather."

Ruby thought for a second, then sprung up with amazement.

"That means I'm 26% god!"

Percy refrained from correcting her measurements, and resigned to crookedly grinning.

"Well done kiddo."

Camp Halfblood, 4 days earlier.

At this time of year, you'd expect the camp to be, for the most part, empty. However, after the defeat of the giants and Gaea, many more children of the gods had shown up over time.

Chiron looked over the bustling camp, as a blond haired boy approached him from the side.

"I really don't know how we're going to get through this summer, there's even more of them this time." He sighed.

"That's an interesting statement, Will. There's no need to worry." Chiron smiled.

Will rubbed the back of his neck, "Well, the problem is that we might be underestimating the amount of kids showing up."

Chiron glanced down at Will, "No worries, my boy."

Will sighed, "Kind of wish Mr. D was still here. Nico is really bad at this." He dug his foot into the dirt, "Is there anything else we can do?"

"I have... a few ideas." Chiron responded.

Now

Ruby was lounging on the couch, watching TV, as Percy walked back into the apartment.

He lifted the grocery bag in his hand, "Cookies."

Ruby shot off the couch at immense speeds, standing next to the table as Percy set down the bag. She removed the cookies and skittered away.

Percy sighed, with a smile growing on his face as he walked towards his bedroom.

As he closed the door behind him, the air in front of him shimmered, as the image of Nico appeared in an iris message.

"What's up you grinning idiot?" Nico asked, smirking at him.

Percy laughed, lifting up the other bag. "Clothes shopping."

"What an odd thing for you to do, Jackson." Nico snickered, unfolding his arms.

Percy shrugged, "So why is it you're IMing me 4 days into April? What am I about to be asked to do?"

"Help out." Nico replied, looking him in the eyes.

Percy raised his eyebrow, about to speak.

"At... Camp. This summer. We're uh... well the most basic way of putting it is "understaffed". Will and I have been here for the past couple months in place of Dionysus, but even more kids have been showing up recently. Like, there's even a crazy blonde one with shotguns for gloves. And she's 9 for gods's sake. I still have no idea where they keep coming from."

"Is there pay? I mean, I'll do it either way, I just can't thrive off of my job right now." Percy asked.

Nico turned his head to the side, conversing with someone next to him, and then turned back. "Yeah, sure. You can bring that girl along if you want, too."

Percy's breath halted as he spun around, Ruby was poking her head through the door.

She smiled guiltily and walk through.

Percy exhaled, and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Alright. I'll do it. When do I start?"

Nico turned to his side again, this time audible to Percy. "So that's what's expected? Alright."

He turned back to Percy, "End of May."

Percy smiled, "That works for me. See you in a month death breath." He swiped through the misty image and collapsed on his bed.

"Was that like... a magic phone call?" Ruby asked, staring at the space where the Iris Message had been floating.

"That's one way to put it, I guess." Percy groaned, "This day beat me."

"But you just got a better job!" Ruby exclaimed.

"One would hope." Percy responded. "One would hope..."

Sorry if this chapter is a little short! It's more of exposition, similar to the previous chapter. I'm hoping to have a good length chapter 3 to tell the start of the story in camp.

Some retcons have happened to the first chapter, so the story is less confusing, however I'll be answering some questions.

A. RWBY characters will be implemented into the story, team RWBY will all be Greek.

B. It all takes place on Earth, however, the Grimm could possibly appear eventually. Not 100% on that.

Anyways,

Criticism and reviews are appreciated!
