For the rest of the afternoon Katelynn stayed in Sharon's office. She colored in her coloring books, played on the i-pad, and practiced her handwriting on a pad of paper Sharon kept there for her. At 3:00 Sharon's assistant took her down to get a snack and then to Major Crimes because Sharon had a budget meeting. Katelynn went over to Provenza and sat next to his desk. "Uncle Venza will you take the bad boys to jail?" Louie looked from Katelynn to Julio and back.

"Well little lady I heard that your Uncle Julio took care of that when he picked you up. I don't think they will bother you anymore. Your mommy and daddy are going to explain everything to you and Noah tonight. Your daddy told me that. We are all a family and nothing is going to change that. Not since your daddy got his head out of his ass ten years ago." Katelynn's eyes went wide when he said that.

Andy was coming out of his office and heard the last of the conversation. "Louie! Don't say that to a five-year-old. She'll repeat it to Sharon and tell her who said it. And Sharon will get you back for that." Andy winked at Katelynn. Katelynn grinned.

"I tell Mommy in the car after we get Noah. She splain it to me." Julio cracked up laughing in the background. Provenza turned around and glared at Julio. "Be nice Uncle Venza. I tell Mommy you was mean to Scary Sanchez." Julio laughed again. Provenza groaned and rolled his eyes. Katelynn jumped out of her chair and went back to Julio and Amy's desks. She opened her drawer in Amy's desk and got out one piece of candy. "I only getted one." They both nodded. She sat in the chair in the middle of their desks. Julio took out of the coloring books and crayons he kept for her. She opened them both. She quietly sat there coloring and eating her candy.

Forty-five minutes later Sharon came back down to Major Crimes. She saw Katelynn sitting with Julio and Amy. "Baby girl are you ready to go home?" Katelynn nodded and nodded put her things in the drawer or her bag. She looked toward Andy's office. Sharon looked also then answered Katelynn. "Daddy is still busy but he will be home in a little while." Katelynn nodded and grabbed Sharon's hand.

They went down to Sharon's car. Sharon unlocked the doors and took Katelynn's bag as Katelynn buckled herself into her seat. Sharon made sure it was tight then closed her door and got in the front seat. She drove them to the elementary school to pick up Noah. Half an hour later they were in the line of cars at the school to get Noah. She pulled up when it was her turn and Noah got in and buckled up after tossing his backpack in the floor. "So what boys do I need to beat up for Katelynn and Ariel? Cause I will. I'm learning the Scary Sanchez face."

Sharon shook her head. "No fighting. You are not beating up anyone, especially kids smaller than you. Uncle Julio and I took care of it. But Daddy and I do need to explain some stuff to both of you tonight after dinner. So do your homework when we get home and you have changed your clothes." He made a face and nodded as Sharon pulled out onto the street.

Sharon drove them home and the kids went inside through the garage to their upstairs rooms to change clothes. They hung their uniforms back on the hangers and put on their play clothes. Noah took his backpack and went down to the dining room table to do his homework. Katelynn followed him but had nothing except their lunch bags with her. She took them to Sharon in the kitchen. "Homework done at PAB Mommy."

Sharon nodded. "I know Katie. Uncle Louie and I checked it for you, remember?" Katelynn nodded and went back upstairs to her room. She drug her Barbie case out of the toy box and started digging in it. She sat on the floor dressing and playing with her Barbies. Sharon went back to work on dinner. Noah sat in the dining room doing his homework.

When Sharon had dinner halfway done Andy appeared in the kitchen from the garage. He came up to her, wrapping his arms around her from behind. She leaned her head back against him, giving him access to her neck. He moved closer and kissed her neck then then gently turned her head with one hand and kissed her on the lips. She kissed back, deepening the kiss, then softly moaned into it. He slowly broke the kiss and looked at her. "We'll explain everything to both of them after dinner. We knew this day would come, just not so soon. I thought we had until she was in third or fourth grade."

Sharon nodded in agreement. "Go change your clothes, dinner is almost ready. Bring Katelynn back with you. And bring Katelynn back downstairs with you. And one of us needs to check Noah's homework. Andy nodded then leaned in for another kiss. Sharon returned the kiss.

Andy looked at her after he broke the kiss. "You and I will talk later after we send Noah to bed. I know what's going on in your head and it can stop now. She's five, you are her Mommy and I am her Daddy, the only ones she knows and will ever know." She nodded and started putting dinner on the table after helping Noah move his homework to the coffee table. Andy went upstairs to change his clothes and get Katelynn.

Andy and Katelynn came downstairs about five minutes later. He was wearing a pair of track pants and a Dodgers t-shirt. Sharon looked at him and shook her head. "Do you not own any other shirts to wear around the house? That's all we ever see you in." Andy just shrugged and helped her finish setting the table. The kids came to the table and sat in their usual spots. Noah fixed his own plate while Sharon fixed a plate for Katelynn. Andy came in with drinks for all four of them.

Sharon frowned at the glasses of soda he had put on the table for Noah and Katelynn. "It's Sierra Mist, no caffeine" He set his cranberry soda and her glass of wine on the table. The four of them ate dinner together, Sharon and Andy asking Noah about his day at school.

After dinner was finished and cleaned up they all went to the family room and sat on the couch together. Sharon and Andy each pulled a child onto his or her lap. Andy grabbed the remote before either child could get it to turn on the television. The kids looked at each other. "We didn't do nothing bad. We aint in trouble at school. Ask Ben and Ariel, they tell you."

Sharon hugged Noah tightly against her. "We know you didn't. We need to talk about what happened to Katelynn today and tell you the whole story behind it. We think you're both old enough to understand." The kids looked at Sharon and Andy and nodded. Sharon looked over at Katelynn. "Katelynn those boys were teasing you today because you do look more like your Uncle Julio than me and Daddy and that was mean of them to do." Katelynn nodded. "There's a reason you look more like Uncle Julio and not me and Daddy."

Sharon looked over at Andy. He nodded for her to continue. "You didn't come from Mommy's belly, just like Noah didn't come from Mommy's belly." Katelynn started to tear up. Andy hugged her tightly to him then passed her to Sharon. Noah moved over next to Andy. "Andy I can't." Sharon wiped her eyes. She hugged Katelynn tightly against her.

Andy nodded and looked at Sharon and Katelynn then down at Noah. "Well Katelynn you know your aunt and uncles and I investigate crime scenes?" Katelynn nodded. One day at about this time I was at a crime scene with your aunt and uncles. Mommy was in her office working and Noah you were with Rusty. This was before he and your big brother Keith lived together. I was at the crime scene with your aunt and uncles and the new guy. Mommy was at her new job in her big office upstairs at the PAB." Sharon rolled her eyes as Andy continued.

"We went to the crime scene and found what we usually find. You know how people we help won't wake up. Your Uncle Louie and Aunt Amy were upstairs in the house looking around. They heard a baby crying. In a bedroom they found you by yourself Katelynn. You were just a tiny baby. Your Aunt Amy picked you up and changed your diaper and clothes and brought you down to me. I called Mommy in her office and told her we needed her because we found you. She came to help us and brought baby bottles and other things for you."

Sharon nodded and continued. "I turned on my sirens and went to where Daddy and the others were. You were still crying, so I made you a bottle and held you and fed you like you do your baby dolls. We called the nice lady Cynthia to help us and she met me at the hospital so we could make sure you were okay. The doctor said you were okay. We went back to my office and tried to find if you had any other brothers or sisters. But you didn't."

Andy took over for her. "After I came back to the PAB Mommy and I took you home with us. You slept in a playpen in Mommy and my bedroom until we could fix a bedroom for you. We went and got you some baby furniture and toys and set up your bedroom that you have now only for a baby. We bought you clothes and other stuff. You met all your brothers and sisters and cousins and you and Ariel liked to play together even when you were babies."

Sharon continued. "Your mommy and sister Nicole painted your room for you that weekend and we filled it with toys, clothes, and stuffed animals. Three months later we signed papers that made us your mommy and daddy forever. You've lived with us since then. When you were three you got your big girl bed and bicycle. That's the same time Ben came to live with your big brothers. You all learned to ride bikes together. You will always be our baby girl just like Ben will always be Rusty and Keith's little boys." Katelynn nodded and hugged them both. Andy wrapped one arm around Noah and held him with them.
