Saturday mornings were only good for one thing. Lay ins, nothing else in my opion. The same went for my brothers. But my parents on the other hand had a whole new view on the matter. Eight thirty in the morning and I am rudely awoken in the cliche manner of my father banging a saucepan on the landing.
"Up boys, get those lazy bums out of bed" I groaned and rolled over in my covers. My face was burried in my pillows attempting to block out light and sound from the morning. Why did he have to get us up? I wasn't doing anything all day so sleep was the best action plan at that moment. After five minutes of attempting and flailing to get up I just rolled off the bed , still rapped in my covers.
Dad had left the landing by now and the smell of bacon and eggs had slowly begun to sneak it's way under my door. My mouth watered a little. With the promise of food downstairs I decided to get up properly. Standing and stretching I blinked looking at my pj's. I was only wearing an old t-shirt and a pair of boxers. I'd usually wear trouser bottoms but all my sleep attair was in the wash. Considering it was just family going to see me I thought it would be fine in such cassual wear.
Pushing my door open I stumbled across the landing and down the stairs. Mum was in the kitchen, she smiled at me from her cooking.
"Morning sweetie, want some bacon" She was in good spirits. I smiled back. Mothers cheerfulness was alway infectous.
"Morning and yes please. Any eggs going?"
"I'll fry one in a minute. Go make your self some toast"
Dylan was at the table tucking him self into a bacon sandwhich. Looking at the rest of his plate with the smears of ketchup and remains of an egg yoke he must have had a full english. First thing you need to know about the Kirklands. Everyone is a fast eater but me. Dad sat on the other side of the small rectangular table. His coffee steamed infront of him as he read the newspaper. He'd turned straight to the back where the sport section was, as always. Allistor was no where to be seen, but that was no surprise.
I chucked two peices of toast in the toaster then turned to lean against the counter. After finishing his article Dad put the paper down and turned to me.
"So Arthur what are you up to today?" He pulled a smile, it seemed forced alittle.
"Er.. nothing really homework, i guess" I looked at my father oddly, he wasn't really one for chit chat.
"Not going out with friends?"
"Dad we talked about this" I sighed
"You must have at least a few friends, one friend?"
I turned my back on him staring at the toaster wanting it to pop up. Anything that would mildly excuse me from having to make conversation.
"You could always come to the park with me and my mates, Arthur" Dylan wiped ketchup from his mouth with his sleeve looking at me. "We're playing football, we'd have odd numbers with you but you could always be ref or something"
Running around with a bunch of thirteen year olds wasn't the most appealing idea, but I loved football it was worth a shot.
"Sure, I'll come" Dylan smiled at my answer and finished his butty before scattering off upstairs to get ready for his friend later.
I flashed at look at my father. He didn't look satisfied with small time solution but didn't say anything.
"Anyway, even if my little boy doesn't have friends now he'll make them at univercity. That's where all the smart and intelligant people are. Just like our little Arty" She ruffles my hair and put a plate with bacon and eggs down on the table for me. I smiled a thanks to my mother.
Once my plate was clear of nothing but the reminisance of egg yoke, grease and ketchup, I slipped it in the sink and slunk up to my bedroom. I met Allistor on the way as he went to the bathroom for his morning shower. This wouldn't have bothered me much if he hadn't been stark naked. He only rolled his eyes at my squeak of horror and pushed past me.
When I'd closed the door behind me in my room I head for my wardrobe. Considering I'd probably get muddy at the park and the bathroom was ocupied I decided to have a shower that that evening. Grapping my Jeans and t-shirt from yesterday I pulled them on with little effort. My phone sat on the window cill where it had been charging. I never used it. I never had anyone to text really. I grabbed it anyway shoving it into my trouser pocket. Mum would probably call me later anyway.
The door bell rang telling me Dylan's friend were here. Having a quick glance in the mirror checking my hair was at least some what presentable I made my way down stairs. Four people where already standing on the landing happily gibbering away at each other. One of which was my cousin. Well, I say my cousin. I'm not sure how we were related but he seemed to look a lot like my brothers and I. He was my height at the moment but was sure to grow taller. His hark brown hair similar to Dylans was slicked back with a few strands sticking out in rebelion.
Another was a fimilar face, a shortish boy with blonde hair which curled around his ears in large locks. He was the one chatting the most and pushing a rugby ball into Dylans face excitedly. I knew Wes , the boy, from when i went to watch my brother play at the local rugby club. Though both boys weren't the largest in their team they were certainly the fastest and most skilled. In turn this made them the most enthuiastic.
The third person was new though. A girl much younger than the other two. She wore her hair in a side pony tailand was clinging to Bruce's arm looking around the hall way curiously.
Last of all was my brother of course. He smiled at me as I came down, before running to grab his coat off the bananister. I grabbed mine too and slipped it on over my shoulders. I nodded a hello to everyone before stepping into my trainers wiggling for them to sit comfortably.
"Ready to go" I glanced over at Dylan.
"Yeah" He opened the door and stepped out everyone else following. "Let's go"
The welsh boy begun running down the road. His friends soon after although Bruce stopped to give the girl a piggy back. I pushed a hand through my hair sighing before grabbing the football from understairs where we kept it. I knew he'd I arrived at the park the four where chucking Wes' ball to each other. The girl was still on Bruce's back hugging him around the neck. I raised the ball to show them I'd brought it before kicking it over to Dylan. He cheered a thanks before heading straight to one of the goals that sat one side of the park.
Our park wasn't partical huge but larger than most. It had two junoir sized football pitches, a play park and hill which lead to a small wooded area. I sat on a tree stump on the edge of the pitch watching each of the kids take it inturns to try and kick a ball past Bruce who was acting as the goaly.
Dylan called me over to join but a shook my head telling him I'd rather watch for now. Finding my self a log from an old cut down tree I made my self comfy. Half an hour pasted when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see a beeming face.
"Hey there?!" It was the American from yesterday.
"Oh hello, Alfred isn't it?" I furrowed my brow trying to remember correctly before smiling back,
"Yeah! And you're Artie, right?"
"Arthur" I corrected him.
"So Artie" I didn't press to correct him, didn't want to seem rude. "What you doing here then?"
"I'm watching my brother and his friends" I gestured to the kids infront of me.
"Oh" He nooded slowly then continued excitedly. "Which one is your brother?"
"The shorter brown haired one with th ball now, the one in goal is my cousin"
"Arh! I should have know all three of you have the same bushy brows"
"They're not bushy!" I snapped at him. How could you be so rude to someone you've just met?!
"Sorry, didn't mean to offend; just stating something." He rubbed the back of his neck looking at me guiltily.
I narrowed my eyes at him before replying it was okay. Moving round the american plonked himself next to me on the log. He watched the boys for a few minutes glancing at me awkwardly. It was obvious he wanted to say something but didn't want to anoy me. Finally after a few awkward shuffles of his feet he spoke again.
"So what school do you go to?" We smilled a little looking at me.
My gaze didn't waver from my brother and his friends. "West brook corps, I'm in the sixthform there. You?"
"I just transferred to Highlake school. I'm in grade 11. Wait no you say year here right?"
I nodded. "Yeah"
"So year 11. I'm doing gcse's I think that's what the tests are called?"
"Yeah, I finished mine last year. I'm doing A-levels now." I pulled my coat over my shoulders a little more as a wind begun to blow. "So you must be 15 or 16, right?"
" I'm 15, 16 in July. So you're 16 or 17?"
"Uhuh, 16 turning 17 next April"
Alfred's smile grew wider. "So your older than me?"
"I though that would be obvious" I raised my eyebrows slightly.
"Yeah but you look younger than 16"
"Thanks?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "Well you don't look 15, you looker older"
"Isn't that better than looking younger though?"
"Not really my mum says I'll appreciate it more when I'm older."
Alfred shrugged. "So what stuff are you into"
"Like what?"
"Like what hobbies do you have, movies, music etc."
I shrugged. "I dunno, I like the Sexpistols and general punk music. Er I don't really have any hobbies. I like the James Bond movies and books"
"I've heard of James Bond. I never got round to watching the films but they look really good."
"They are! Full of action and gadgets but he's a gentleman through out. The books are even better!" I turned to look at him, keen to be on a topic I was passionate.
"So he's like Batman!"
"Not exactly but they both fight bad guys with gadgets, I guess. But Bond works for the Queen's secret service. Though he can go a little freelance at times." I begun to compare the two, in my head ,with the little knowledge I had of Batman.
"Either way they both are awesome for fighting against crime and stuff" He was beeming and so was I. It felt weird to be talking to someone like this. To be actually having a conversation with no real purpose behind it. The purpose was having a conversation.
"Hey, er do you want to come round mine. We could watch some of the movies if you like" I looked away. "You can say no. We have only just met really"
"No , That sounds great! I mean I've got nothing to do for the whole weekend other than revising" He rolled his eyes at the mention of school work " So I've just been wondering around the neighbor hoods all morning. And as long as you promise you're not some psycho peado or something"
"I'm not a peado and secondly you're of age! So technically I wouldn't be a peado even if I was one. Which I'm not!"
Alfred begun to laugh coughing a little as he begun to choke him self on his own laughter. "I'm only messing, your easy to wind up. But anyway yes I'll come round yours"
"Cool, so it's a date. Well er no not a date , a hangout" I cursed my self for sounding so lame. "Er do you wanna call your parents or something. I mean just so they know where you are?"
"Yeah sure I'll text my mom" He flipped out his phone and begun texting.
"Cool, er I don't live to far. I'm just going to tell my brother we're leaving" I walked over to my brother who had just finished shooting for the goal. Bruce caught the ball and rolled it back for the next person to shoot.
"Dylan! I'm going home now, 'kay" I waved an arm at him.
He looked up from the ball. "But you haven't played with us yet!"
"Sorry but I have a friend over" I gestured to Alfred.
Dylan looked from me to Aflred several times confused before smiling. "Oh, cool. Have fun"
He kicked the ball and it went into the back of the net while Bruce was distracted. I think an argument about it being an unfair shot followed but I didn't pay attention.
"Mum okay with it?"
"All is pinky and rosey with her." He shoved his phone back in his pocket.
"Alright lets go then"
The walk home wasn't long at all but we managed to chat about a lot of things, bringing back the disgussion of how alike Jame Bond and Batman were. Alfred then went off on a tangent about his favorite super heros and their different powers. I didn't mind because it was interesting. His enthusiasm of the subject drew me in. I'd chuckle at the funny situations that the bad guys would get them selves stuck in. Alfred said he's let me borrow some of his comics and he'd show me where to read some of them online.
Using my keys to get in the house I showed Alfred where to take of his shoes when Mum walked out of the kitchen carrying laundary.
"You're back early Arthur. Do you have any whites I'm putting on a w-" She spotted Aflred and glanced at me. "Um hello"
"Sorry, this is Alfred, Mum. He moved into the neighborhood recently. I said it would be okay if he came over for a bit?"
"Er yes yes that's fine. It's nice to meet you Alfred" Her glance of shock turned into a large beem. "I'm Arthur's Mother, but you can call me Heather"
"We're gunna watch some James Bond movies. If that's okay?" I smiled back at her.
"You'll have to ask to watch it in Allistor's room. Your father is watching the rudgy in the living room at the moment.
"Oh okay." I ran up the stairs gesturing for Alfred to follow which he did.
I knocked on Allistor's door before he said it was okay to come in. Thankfully he was clothed and was checking his hair in the mirror.
"Going out?" I asked casually
"Yeah, going to a gig with friends tonight but we're hanging out first. So what's up?" He continued to look at him self in the mirror pulling different expressons to make sure his face looked okay.
"Could I watch some films in here with a mate? Dad is using the telly downstairs"
"A friend?" He looked from the mirror pulling a face.
I gestured for Alfred to enter. He shuffled in and gave a quick wave to show he was real.
"Er, sure. But ain't no dirty ones. I don't want you doing the nasty on my bed"
"Oh god no. Allistor" I looked at him in terror as he flashed me a smirk. Alfred just laughed not bothered by the comment. "We're watching Jame Bond"
"Well some of those girls can be a litte-"
"Shut it you know I wouldn't"
"I'm just teesing. Just don't go messing up my stuff or snooping, okay?" He took another glance in the mirror straighting his waist coat, I don't know why because he had it open over his shirt, then left the room. He ruffled my hair on the way out. "Have fun lad"
I rolled my eyes before picking up some of his underwear and clothes he had left scattered across the room and dumped them in the laundary basket by the foot of his bed.
"Your brother is pretty cool" Alfred sat on the bed still smiling
"He's a pain."
"Well at least he's confident. Mine is can be scared of his own shadow."
"You have a brother?" I looked up from picking up a pair of socks.
"Yeah, I have a twin brother. We're identical though we don't look hugely alike now. But we used to be mirror images" Alfred crossed his legs on top of the bed. I muttered a thanks to Allistor for making his bed for once.
"That's cool! I wish I was a twin then I might have more things in comman with one of my siblings"
Alfred shrugged. Once I'd made the room somewhat tidier, I wish I could have got in earlier rather than doing it in front of the american, I popped into the other room grabbing my traditional Bond box set and the seperate boxes for the newer films. Dumping them on the bed I spread out the dvds
"There are quite a few films. Old and new. I recomend us watching the new ones and if you like that we can go back to watch the older ones later"
"Sounds like a plan" Alfred nodded.
"Cool er, so the first one is Casino Royal, it has Daniel Craig as Bond" I turned on the telly and put in the disk. I sat at the top of the bed fluffing the pillows. Alfred joined me and we both sat next to each other watching the film. About half way through the first film, Mum came in with a bowl of crisps and a packet of Haribos. Alfred scofffed his half of the crisps quickly. I had ate a few of mine before giving the rest to him. He ate them happily watching the film eagerly as I was. We we're on the second film before starting the Haribos.
Alfred would squig them in his fingers talking about how different they were from American sweets. That didn't stop him from scoffing them all. The american didn't seem as attentive to the film by now. The first film being about two and a half hours he obviously pushed his limit of being able to sit still.
I paused the movie. "Do you really want to watch this?"
Alfred gave me a weak smile. "Two in a row can be a little heavy on. But I loved the first movie"
"I'll switch it off then." I turned the TV off with th remote. "Er what do you want to do now?"
"I'm not sure" We sat in silence for a moment. I despritely thought of somethng to do. I didn't want to seem lame to Alfred or weird. I glanced around the room for idea before I eyes rested on a small pack of cards
"Er we could play cards? I know a few games" I grabbed the pack of cards off Allistors dresser.
"Sure sounds fun. Um what game do you want to play?"
"Er do you know the game Speed? That's a two player game" Alfred thought for a moment.
"That's the one a bit like Spit, right?" He blinked at me
"I don't know what Spit is but Speed is set out like this" I delt the cards and gave an example of how you'd place a move.
"Yeah I know the game!"
We played a few rounds Alfred beating me the first two rounds but I beat him the next five. We didn't stop playing until he'd won the final three rounds. It was obvious he didn' like losing. He wasn't sour about it he was just always up for a challenge.
Mum came up stairs and poked her head around the door. "Is Alfred staying for tea?"
"Do you want to stay?" I glanced at the other male.
"To be honest I should be getting home. But thankyou for the offer Mrs Kirkland"
Mum giggled. "Shh call me Heather I insist"
I rolled my eyes at my mum and cleared away the cards. Taking Alfred to the door we said an good bye on the door.
"Artie, er thanks for today. It was fun"
"Yeah it was"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Hey was wondering..."
"Wondering what?" I asked curiously
"Do... do you want to hang out again tomorrow. I mean if that's cool and you aren't doing anything"
"That's sounds great!"
"It's a date then.. er hangout?" We both laughed at him repeating my awkward mistake of earlier. "Well, I'm off. See you tomorrow Artie!"
He sped off down the driveway waving a hand as he left.
I waved with one hand "Bye"
I closed the door behind me and grinned. I just made a friend. That sounds so pathetic but I don't care. I made a friend and that's all that matter. Alfred F Jones . In my books was now my mate.
Authors Note: A quick confession. I know very little about James Bond. I think I'm just about one of the few boys who just knows the basics at my sixthform. Anyway this was a bit of a boring chapter sorry. But realistically this is how many of us awkwardly make new friends. Unless you cosplay like me and meet your friends by playing truth, dare, kiss at Cons and meets...
Well anyway next chapter I'll be starting on right away. Smut will happen in later chapters but not for a while a I think. Sorry please don't let this put you off at all. Hope you enjoy. But if you're despriate for a bit of under the bed covers usuk I have a Punk!England x America one shot coming out soon you might enjoy? err..I've said to much anyway sorry. um Enjoy my gay story of shipping countires
