Only four out of roughly twenty soldiers were able to be sent back to Anula from Unova, both Evan and Violeta amongst the small group. The shuttle ride back to Deltano was near dead silent, a continuous soft whirr heard as the shuttle skidded across the water.
About thirty minutes had passed before they were let out at the docks, and it was very late, almost midnight in fact.
"May not be your home Evan, nor is it mine… but it's our safe haven." Violeta said as they walked through Deltano.
"I know, just doesn't feel right." He glanced over at her and adjusted his rifle's strap as it hung over his shoulder.
"We're not the good guys, but you and I are by heart. Of course it won't feel right Evan, it's just how survival works sometimes." No response came from Evan, what could he say? Violeta was right, and as bad as it sounded, Evan would rather be here in Anula than to suffer in Unova like everyone else.
Their home was a few blocks down from the docks. A casual white house that had a rather basic interior, except for some fancy furniture placed here and there. After they arrived, Evan fumbled with his keys a bit before finding the correct one, easily opening the door. "Rosa?" Already, Evan expected for her to be at the door, and because she wasn't, it made him wonder where she was. He flipped the switch that turned on the living room's ceiling light and took a sigh out of relief once he saw his Umbreon slowly exit his room. Rosa wore a tired look on her face because she'd just woken up, but still walked over to her trainer. "Did I wake you? Sorry about that Rose." Evan leaned down and gave her a kiss on her forehead before closing the door behind Violeta once she walked inside.
"Now let's take off this stupid outfit…" Evan mumbled to himself and went into his room to dress into something more casual. A long sleeved red shirt and a white shorts for now, as long as he wasn't wearing that dreaded blue suit.
"Evan! C'mere!" He heard Violeta call him from the living room and walked out to her, she was sitting on the couch, Rosa right next to her on one of the light brown cushions. "Here, it's Reyna. I'm gonna go change." Violeta handed Evan her black cell phone and disappeared into the same room that he had just come out.
"Yeah?" Evan held the phone up to his ear and sat next to Rosa.
"So, I have good news… and bad news." Reyna had gotten a call from the main headquarters, and they gave her a few promising results for the time being.
"Just break it to me." Evan wouldn't be much surprised by anything, he leaned back against the couch and traced his hand up and down Rosa's back.
"With more confirmation from Sill and a few others, we'll likely be able to put more research into finding the weakest region to attack… and so far, that region happens to be Sinnoh, we're close." Reyna spoke into her cell as she paced back and forth across her kitchen - it was habit.
"Is… that the bad news?" Evan replied, feeling a bit of anxiety begin to stir up in his chest.
"What? No! That's the good news, the bad news is that if we do get a green light to invade, almost every soldier is going. For you, Violeta and I… it'd be a guarantee, they need our skill." A deep silence fell over the line, this couldn't be real.
"...Hello?"
"Th-Thanks Reyna, talk to you tomorrow." He hung up quickly and felt as if he was completely zoned out for a few seconds while attempting to process the information.
"What'd she say?" Violeta stood behind the couch and leaned on it. She'd changed into a gray t-shirt and matching leggings.
"That Anula may overtake Sinnoh next, and if they go through with it, we're going to be forced to go with." He summarized and slowly pulled Rosa onto his lap to lay her down.
"I knew that was coming eventually… not like we can do anything about it though." Violeta walked around and sat to the right of Evan on the couch.
"I'm not doing this again, the first time was enough for me." He traced his fingers across Rosa's sleek back while holding her thigh with his left hand.
"What are you going to do? Head back to Unova with the rest of the citizens?" Violeta wasn't trying to argue, but she didn't want Evan going against orders, that never summed up to anything good.
"I don't know." Those were the last words spoken for a good remainder of the night, the three of them sat on the couch for a good half of an hour, Violeta leaning against Evan while Rosa rested in his lap.
If this attack order were to go through, it would be nothing like escaping Unova. It would be ten times worse, they would be a bigger part of the war, contributing to it more heavily than last time. This was what worried Evan, and why he wanted to leave the region now more than ever. Though if he did, the only places he could go to were other regions, and that would be risky. If Evan left Anula, he obviously wouldn't be let back in, and if Anula took over the remaining regions. He would be completely screwed.
