Why?
Chapter Two
Jim didn't know what to do.
" It's okay. She knew already."
" How-how would you know?" Spock sobbed.
" She was human, if I know human mothers, she loved you very much. And she knew you loved her the same way." Jim said gently.
" I- I never told her." Spock repeated feverishly.
" You could tell her now."
" H-how, she's gone."
Jim was worried for his friend, instead of pulling himself together, like a human would have, it was getting worse. He was shaking and there was a glint of fear in his eyes.
" Spock, just say it, I'm sure wherever she is she can hear you."
" Mama, I-I love you." Spock whispered feverishly.
" There, now you've said it."
Spock was curled into a ball and had fallen onto the floor. He was mumbling feverishly in Vulcan.
" Spock?" Jim asked hesitantly.
Another sob racked the first officer.
" Spock!"
Spock looked up. " Stand up, Spock."
Spock complied. A sob tore at him again.
" Snap out of it!"
Spock started crying again. Jim slapped him.
Spock (to Jims amazement) stumbled slightly.
" Harder." Spock said in a clear voice. Jim complied. " Again."
That happened three more times. " That is sufficient, thank you for your assistance."
"No problem, Spock."
Everything turned out fine. Everything turned out all right. The illness was cured. Everyone was back to normal.
Except Spock. Every few minutes he would cough or sniffle. Jim finally had enough.
" Are you okay mister Spock?"
Spock sneezed.
" Damn, go get some sleep Spock, take as much time as you need."
Spock raised an eyebrow.
" Now."
Spock nodded, sneezed and left.
Jim sighed.
It was going to be a long week.
