Naruto and Eragon made good time out of the spine. Naruto had two clones carry the deer between them, while he and Eragon compared their respective worlds. It was decided that Eragon's world was a much safer place as there were only two military forces not many. It was also decided that it would be best if Naruto stayed out of the public's eye for a while. Given that random strangers showing up in flashes of light would be subject to much more than just a bit of suspicion. So they skirted around the edge of town and headed straight to Garrow's farm. It was quiet a few miles from town, but they covered the distance in a few short hours. Once they arrived at the small house, Garrow stood up from his seat on the porch.
"It's good to see you have game nephew." Garrow said with a nod of his head. "Who are your friends?"
The clones sat down the deer and dispelled, leaving Naruto to step forward and say. "Hello old man I'm Naruto. Eragon found me in the woods and offered a place to rest away from the cold, if I would help with the fields."
Garrow raised an eyebrow at his nephew. Eragon just shrugged. Garrow then turned to get a good look at Naruto's appearance. He took in the outlandish clothing and the scar on his chest from Sasuke's chidori. After a few moments of silent contemplation Garrow sighed and said. "Best get that deer hung up for the night so it can be worked up in the morning. The guest bedroom is right across the hall from Eragon's so when the deer is hung up he can show it to you. I'll see you boys in the morning."
After the boys hung the deer in the barn, and Eragon showed Naruto his new room. Naruto sat in the room and began to look over what he had with him. His list of supplies consisted of a single kunai, three chakra pills Sakura had insisted he would need at some point, and a book of sealing techniques from Jiraiya. He also had twelve gold ryo coins from his mission pay for his retrieval of Tsunade. He didn't know how he was going to get out of this one and get home. He sighed before getting into bed and falling quickly to sleep.
Naruto woke up after four hours of sleep. He didn't think anybody would be up for a few hours so he decided it would be a good time to do something productive. He pulled out the book from Jiraiya and opened it to the first page. The first page had a sealing array on it with a little side passage. The note read;
gaki
this seal has the next level of fuuinjutsu book, as well as two jutsu that will go well with your fighting style. You'll be able to unseal it only after you master everything in this book. I feel you will get it fairly quickly. This process will go on for all five books. Know this gaki. Even if you can't get fuuinjutsu that's ok I am still proud to call you my apprentice. Not that you can tell anyone I said that they might think I'm going soft. Anyways here you go kid this is everything you will ever need to grow stronger.
Ja ne
Gama sennin no Jiraiya.
Naruto smiled before he began reading the book. He had to admit, it was the single most interesting book he'd ever seen opened. It was also the most difficult to understand. But it just seemed to click, like a part of Naruto that he didn't know he was missing. He stayed there reading by candlelight until he was interrupted by Eragon opening the door.
"Oh, I though you were still asleep." he said with a nervous chuckle. "We're gonna take the deer to Sloan to have it butchered."
"Why not butcher it yourself. It won't have a price if you cut out the middle man so to speak." Naruto questioned thoughtfully.
"Do you know how to butcher a deer?" Eragon asked with a wry grin. Upon seeing Naruto shake his head the brown haired boy grinned wider. "Me neither. I'm a hunter not a butcher. Skinning field dressing sure but I'm not a butcher."
Naruto nodded his head. It made sense you didn't go to a chef for a kunai, so you didn't got to a to a hunter for butchered meat. He walked out of his room in nothing but his pants and sandals. Eragon stopped him with a bundle of clothes and a pair of boots. Naruto took the clothes looking a little confused.
"What's this for?" He asked uncertainly.
"Uncle Garrow suggested some clothes that wouldn't stick out so much." Eragon explained with a smile. Naruto took the clothes into his room and changed. He came out wearing a pair of black pants that looked like they had been patched way to much, and a light brown shirt that was equally repaired. The boots though were in good condition and had already been broken in quite well. Naruto slid the kunai into his shirt sleeve, and left the rest in his room. As he was walking out he had a thought.
"Hey Eragon do you know where I could get some scrolls, ink, and brushes?" Naruto asked with a frown.
"Umm, I guess Brom may have the stuff. Why would you need that stuff? Are you planning on being a scholar?" Eragon replied with a cocked eyebrow.
"It's something I got from my sensei. I just need that stuff for some really amazing stuff." Naruto said with a wicked grin. "When I get it working I'll show you."
Eragon looked at Naruto skeptically, before shrugging his shoulders and turning to leave the house.
The boys carried the deer between them,do to Eragon stating it would be a good idea to keep Naruto's powers hidden. Once the deer had been taken to Sloan's butcher shop, Eragon pointed Naruto to Brom's house. Naruto walked to the house which was on the outskirts of the town. He knocked on the door and waited till a weather man with a scruffy gray beard and a pipe hanging from his mouth opened the door.
"Yeah what do you want?" The man asked gruffly.
"Eragon said that you could sell me some scrolls and calligraphy equipment." Naruto said looking intently at the old man that reminded him highly of the Sandaime Hokage. Naruto watched as the man's face brightened at the mention of Eragon, only to become curious at the mention of scrolls and calligraphy equipment.
"And what would you possibly want to do with that stuff? I have a limited supply of scrolls and ink. And only two calligraphy pens." Brom said with an arched eyebrow.
"Um I was hoping you had calligraphy brushes." Naruto said rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
Brom's eyebrow rose again. "Aye, I have a set, but no one uses them these days. Brushes are harder to use than the pens. Also more expensive. And you have yet to answer my question."
Naruto looked at the old man for a moment and thought how very like the sandaime he was radiating a wave of not quite power but perhaps presence. It was that very reason the sandaime always weaseled any secrets from Naruto. He had just felt that Hiruzen Sarutobi just KNEW so it was perfectly acceptable to tell him everything. He now found himself doing the same thing to Brom. He opened his mouth and began spilling his guts. From the sealing he wanted to try. To every bit of his past with very little prodding on Brom's part. By the time they were done with the conversation, the two had retreated into Brom's house and were nursing a cup of tea.
"Well I must say Naruto that's quite the tale. And I believe that I would love to see this sealing jutsu when you complete it. Also I have a suggestion. If you decide to travel I suggest going by a different name. Sven, or Erak maybe." Brom said walking over to a table covered in books and scrolls. He began gathering up stuff. When he was done he handed it all to Naruto in a small knapsack.
Naruto nodded dumbly, looking at the man he knew was a powerful warrior. "Why?" he asked numbly.
"Why what?" Brom asked with an arched eyebrow.
"Why are you here? Your a warrior. I know your powerful, so why are you in this small town." Naruto asked slightly overwhelmed. Brom looked at Naruto very sharply. He then calmed, there was no danger in Naruto's tone only honest curiosity.
"How did you know I was a warrior at all. I thought I hid it very well." He asked with a sigh.
"You just like jiji. It's like you just KNOW." Naruto said with a shake of his head. "That and I just get this feeling that your really really dangerous."
"Well your right there I suppose. As to why I'm here that's my business. Now run along I'm sure that Sloan is done and Eragon is waiting for you."
As Naruto left Brom stood watching the boy disappear into the village. I'm going to have to watch that boy. He's quiet something.
