"I said drop it, Remy!" Ava let out.

"We need to have a talk about this" he countered again.

Ava sighed as she walked into her room, hoping that it was some unseen boundary to have Remy not come in, but he did. She got away with it last night about immediately going to bed but ever since she saw her boyfriend, now all he wants to do is ask about what had happened on the mission. Frankly, Ava didn't know how to put it to words but thinking about the incident has made her embarrassed about the whole ordeal. All she wanted to do was forget about it but Remy had other plans. She turned around and wasn't even surprised that he had closed the door behind him and was leaning on it with a raised eyebrow.

"I messed up, okay" Ava said, "I didn't think that those rooms would all look the same"

"They want to converge mutants who are tied to planets" Remy explained, "They need those symbols in order to do that"

"I know, I know" Ava placed her hands on her hips.

"Maybe this was too soon for you, moonshine" Remy gently said.

"No, I need to be apart of this" Ava objected, "I started this"

"Technically, I did" Remy couldn't help but mention.

Ava ignored him, "You'll need my powers"

"Not for another 30 days, at least" Remy told her.

Ava narrowed her eyes, "So you think I'm powerful only when the moon is full?"

"I didn't say that" Remy said, "But maybe having space between the two missions is what you need to think things through… maybe go and see the Professor"

Ava scoffed and shook her head, immediately objecting to his idea. No way in hell she was going to go up to the Professor with her problem. She wouldn't really be surprised if the other three had already marched to his door and let him know in full detail. Maybe Remy was the one who was supposed to persuade her into going to his room.

She turned around and played with a necklace on her nightstand. Ava was sure it was because of seeing the room for the first time. She wasn't expecting it which was why she had a panic attack, perfect explanation.

"I'm sure it was nothing" Ava responded.

"That didn't seem like nothing" Remy told her, "You locked our innocent in the convergence room, thank God Storm had fried the generator, otherwise, we wouldn't know what would happen next"

"I know, I'm sorry" Ava turned around, "It won't happen again"

Remy sighed, "I'm not here to lecture you, Ava, I just want to know what's going on in that little head of yours"

"Nothing… I just freaked out, is all" Ava waved it off, "It won't happen again next time"

"And if it does, you promise to let me help you?" Remy asked.

"Haven't you done enough?" Ava meant to ask in a joking matter but it came out as a snap instead.

"No, in fact, I think I did a horrible job if I know that my girl is still terrified of the hunters" Remy stopped himself before saying, "And I brought you along on the mission"

Ava's defenses dropped as she walked over and snaked her arms around his body as he wrapped his arms around her. Remy brought his lips to the top of her head and gently kissed her.

"I wanted to go, remember?" Ava reminded him.

"But I shouldn't have let you" Remy mumbled into her hair.

"We knew the risk" Ava squeezed, "And I didn't want you to fight my battles anymore"

"This isn't your battle anymore" Remy objected, "It's something a hell of a lot bigger"

"I know" Ava looked up to him, "And I'm glad you're taking charge of this mission"

Remy shrugged, "It's the least I can do"

"So am I cleared for the next mission?" Ava asked.

Remy sighed, "I don't know…"

"Just give it a couple of days" Ava insisted, "I promise that this was just a one time thing"

"And if it isn't?" Remy asked.

"I'll do as you say" Ava nodded, "I'll get help"

"Promise?" Remy pushed.

No, was what she wanted to say.

Instead, Ava nodded, looked at his lips and leaned upwards. Remy obeyed as he dropped his head down and gave her a gentle kiss. She breathed into him and held him closer to her body, loving the feeling of his body heat on her. Remy seemed to agree as he nibbled on her bottom lip for a while, making Ava smile into him. She broke the kiss and smiled as he smirked up at her.

She nudged him and led the man out of her room with her hand in his. She loved every minute being at the institute and being accepted and safe by all. Ava had tried to get her brother Aren to come and live with them at the mansion but he promised he would visit during his college break. Ava sometimes forgets that the outside world still hates and fears mutants but she prefers to focus her energy on the students around her.

Ava watched as some girls whispered and looked over to the couple, noticeably to Remy more than her. She looked up to him as he was looking straight ahead, not noticing what kind of charm he was putting on the other girls. It made her blush knowing that Remy picked Ava to be his girlfriend over every female he knows.

"You know those girls were staring at you, right?" Ava asked as they walked past.

Remy smirked, "Don't they always?"

"They're looking at you, not me" Ava pointed out, "Your appeal is what is drawing them in"

Remy looked down to her with a shocked expression, "Are you saying I'm good-looking, cher?"

Ava giggled and shook her head, "Shut up"

"Not until you admit it" Remy leaned in, "I'm sexy to you"

He gave a deep throated growl as she pushed him away, "Now you're taking it too far"

"You're the one who said it, not me" Remy shrugged.

"And now I regret everything I just said" Ava took back.

"No, you don't" Remy had a twinkle in his eye, "I see the way you look when those other gals see me walking down the hall with you… you like that I'm with you"

Ava rolled her eyes, "Whatever, Gambit"

Ava looked over to him as if he was nothing but couldn't hide the smile on her lips. He stared at her a while longer before laughing and draping his arm around her.

She shook her head and grabbed onto his waist just as she heard someone call his name.

Remy turned and noticed it was Rogue who was must've just come back from her vacation. Remy turned to Ava as she smiled at let go of his hand, knowing they were just best southern buddies. He smiled and walked into the room as they immediately started to catch up. She's talked to Rogue briefly and liked how the woman had a lot of spirit and an independent nature to go along with her heart of gold. At first she was worried at Rogue but that quickly washed away after seeing how easy going the woman was and how much she kept teasing about Remy constantly talking about her.

A dark movement past by on her right side making Ava gasp, jump and move away from the shadow. A female student jumped as well, looked at her in a peculiar way, before she continued into the study. Ava swallowed as she felt her heart beat out of her chest. She glanced over to Remy who was still talking to Rogue, unaware of her scare.

She immediately brushed it off and took a step into the room, rubbing her palms as she realized how sweaty they were. Ava glanced down before she noticed how shaky they appeared to be. She tried controlling it but nothing was working as she quickly turned and went over to the bathroom.

Ava ran in and gripped onto a sink to catch herself. She kept whispering that everything was alright, that it was just a student and nothing more.

Ava deeply inhaled, held it, and then exhaled.
