Link muttered something rude under his breath as they passed into another part of the Lost Woods. It was odd that none of the Kokiri had changed a day since he left. He was beginning to wonder why he was now an adult, yet they hadn't aged a day. It reminded him of how he was so short when they were growing up, yet he caught up to their height in a matter of years... He shook his head and cast the thought away. Hero or not, this was his home. Questioning whether he fit in or not wasn't helping anything.
And yet, they hadn't changed at all and he had, but Mido seemed to pick him out regardless? Some kind of conspiracy was obviously afoot. He sighed and muttered another curse.
"What is up with you?" Navi asked. "That's not like you at all. You've been acting strange since you got the Master Sword."
"I feel strange," Link muttered in return. "Why, did you think that after seven years, I wouldn't have changed at all?"
"Well, no, but I wouldn't expect you to be so... moody." She sighed.
"I don't know, Navi, I just feel like more than just my height has changed." He shrugged. "I feel like I'm looking at everything differently, too."
"Well, your view point is much higher now." She snickered.
Link huffed and rolled his eyes. "That's not what I mean. Besides, I'm not even that much taller."
"So, what do you mean?"
"Just... Everything is different. Aside from the impending doom and everything else, things are just... different." He scrambled for the words. "I feel like... Well, I just feel different."
"Ah," Navi's knowing tone was dashed with mockery. "Raging hormones."
"Wait, what?" He stopped in his tracks and turned to stare at the fairy like she'd gone mad.
"You know, Link! You're not a kid any more! You're an adult! Adults are different to kids. Like... They start to become interested in one another." She bobbed up and down excitedly. "Oh, oh! I know! Who do you have a crush on?"
"What?!" Link was taken aback by such a comment. "No one!"
"Oh, come on, you met loads of girls." Navi began to act dramatically enough to be auditioning for some kind of play. "Saria, the childhood friend, Ruto, the damsel in distress, Malon, the farm girl... Oh! How about Princess Zelda? Go for royalty." She winked at him.
He just stared at her in astonishment for a moment, which slowly became realisation. "Oh, shut up, none of them." He looked to the floor, his cheeks feeling slightly warm.
Navi squealed. "Oh, I'm right! You have a crush on the Princess!"
"What?! I don't! Navi, you little-!"
"You've gone bright red!"
Link growled and turned away. "You know, I never thought I'd be jealous of Mido - He doesn't have to put up with this growing up crap!" With that, he stormed off in the direction of the Sacred Forest Meadow.
Navi gave one last squeal and followed him, singing quietly to herself. "Link and Zelda, sittin' in a tree..."
