Dear Spirits,
My name is Lucy Loud. I am eight years old. I have black hair and pale skin. I was born without the blinking reflex. Of course, I CAN blink. I have to think about doing it, though. My mom and dad thought it made me look creepy, so they made me grow my bangs out to hide my eyes.
But I can still see them.
I don't know exactly when it all began, but at some point, I started to believe all the negative comments about my appearance. I think it was when I went to first grade, that I began to feel alone. The family will always support you. Scratch that last bit. They will mostly help you. Strangers, on the other hand, can be hurtful.
It was during that year at school that I turned inward. I kept my emotions to myself. My world was dark, so I started dressing that way. Later, I found a website about something called Wicca. I read for weeks and finally found an outlet that I could use to channel my emotions without being too overt about it.
In the years that passed, I became increasingly more interested in the occult and mythical creatures, my favorite is the Vampire. A year or two ago, a new series came on T.V. called Vampires of Melancholia. I loved it the first time I watched it. It was dark and gritty. Not like those sparkly boys in the Midnight movies. They make me want to puke!
Great. My sister Lynn is bouncing her ball against the wall again. I will never understand what she sees in sports. All you get are big muscles that look all veiny and gross. Wait. I think I just figured it out.
Oh well, I guess I'll go to sleep now and let the ebony cloak of unconsciousness wrap itself around me.

Breakfast was horrid. How many times do I have to tell dad that I like my eggs burned? I swear, sometimes I think I must be an alien or adopted.
Nobody around here pays me any attention anymore, not since I was a baby, except Lincoln. I think I spook even him though. You'd think your family would understand you, but they don't. They've never yet tried.
Well, anyway, tonight is the season premiere of Vampires of Melancholia, so I need to get ready for that.
Uhg! Lincoln wants to watch that ridiculous ARGGH show. I get it. It's about ghosts and stuff, but come on. Even he must know that they stage that show. Now, if he wants to meet some real ghosts, I might be able to oblidge, but I think if he met one, he'd pass out or die.
Maybe I can convince him to let me watch my show if I promise to hold a real seance for him?
Never mind. Lincoln just brought me an old black and white T.V. I can use up here. Using this old set might work out better. Black and white are my favorite colors.
Why did he do that, though? He's thoughtful, sure. But he missed part of his show to make me happy, well, not as glum anyway.
Wouldn't you know it, the power just went out. I guess this old box must've been too much. I think I'll see if anybody needs help. After all, my family isn't as used to seeing in the dark as I am.
It's amazing what one sees in the dark. That's when all the secrets come out. My sister, Luan, also knows this, but not to the extent that I do. She sees a lot, with her hidden cameras, but they don't work so well in the dark.
Of course, it helps to be small enough to fit into the air ducts, which Luan isn't.
One day, I'm going to prank her ass so hard she won't know what happened. Maybe something involving a prank she pulls on me. I might trip it intentionally, then pretend to be dead. I have some excellent homemade blood I could use.
Well, we blew a fuse. The fuse box is in the basement, though, so Lincoln asked his friend, Clyde, to come over with some of his dumb ghost-hunting stuff so they could see in the dark better. Hah!
Clyde took one look at Lori and left before doing anything, though. Wimp.
I will say this, though. Clyde is pretty cute. One thing they have going for them is that he and my brother both like scary things. At least, they like BEING scared, not that they enjoy the things that scared them. Maybe they'll come around one day.
Lori wasn't much better. As the oldest, she should've been the one to change the fuse. But no! She's fine bossing us around all day, but when it comes to real responsibility, she pawns it off on somebody else.
It was pretty funny, though, watching Lincoln and my sisters fumble around in the cellar, looking for the fuse box. They got spooked at every last regular item in there. Imagine if I'd popped out behind one of them! Ha, ha!
Things were going great until Lisa handed out a stupid glow cookie. She's smart but sometimes lacks common sense. She comes up with some of the most brilliant ideas around, as well as some of the dumbest.
We replaced the fuse, but it took so long we both missed our shows. At least we were able to watch the fiasco in the cellar again because we taped the whole thing.
No, they didn't find any ghosts — what a bummer.
It's incredible the lengths to which Lincoln will go to make us happy. I don't know if any of the others appreciate it, but I do.
I wish there were something I could do to let him know, but every time I try to approach him, he gets startled. I honestly don't do it intentionally. When I do have his attention, my mouth refuses to say anything meaningful. I once considered writing him a poem, but even then, my mind went blank.
Odd.
Well, spirits, the day is done. I shall now submit to slumber. It's as close to being undead as I can get right now. Goodnight Edwin.
