Duel 2: Princeton
Among the countless cards in the world…only a few are believed to have actual spirits.
Meet Jaden Yuki, his Winged Kuriboh is one of those few…a mystic card that will follow its owner into any battle.
And at Duel Academy, there is one other…
1st Year Obelisk Blue Chazz Princeton stared down at the wide stick coming out of the ground, symbolizing that something was buried beneath it. He was standing in a small clearing next to the Academy's main building; with this certain spot being hidden by trees and bushes.
'I became a duelist, when I came into contact with this mystical card,' Chazz thought in reference to what was buried at his feet. 'A spirit card.'
A much younger Chazz stood in the final duel of a tournament facing his opponent with his powerful ace card on the field.
"I attack directly!" he declared as his monster finished his opponent off, wining him the duel. He jumped up and down for joy as the announcer declared him the winner and handed him a large gold trophy.
'I was chosen by the duel gods,' continued Chazz in thought. 'With my spirit partner in hand I entered all the junior tournaments. And I always won. Dueling with my spirit partner, I couldn't have been happier. When I was admitted to Duel Academy, they immediately granted me the rank of "Obelisk Blue" – Unheard of for a first year.' Chazz grinned to himself. 'But it was no surprise to me. After all, I was an experienced tournament champion.'
"How come he goes straight to blue?"
"Bastion Misawa came out on top in the entry exam and he only got into Ra Yellow."
"I hear his family owns the Princeton Corporation, one of the largest richest and most powerful in the world."
"That figures, when money talks people listen."
The thoughts of what people said about him, flooded the mind of Chazz, causing him to scowl. It was those words from his peers that forced his hand.
It was the end of the first week of his time spent at Duel Academy, and Chazz stood at the very space he stood now. He had used a small spade to dig up a hole. In his right hand was a small wooden box and in the other was his spirit card.
'If that's what they think I'll show them,' thought Chazz in the past. 'I'll show them my real power, my real strength.'
I can't battle with you anymore," he stated as he placed his ace card in the small box and closed the lid. He kneeled down and placed it in the hole and began to fill it back up. "This way I can show those backstabbers my strength by myself. I'm going to keep you – who I fought alongside for so long up until now – under seal."
Once he had finished burying the box, he placed the large stick in the spot to show it was buried there.
I made a vowel," he declared as he stood up. "That I fight on alone, and prove to them all I deserve my rank as an Obelisk."
Earlier Today-
The students stood in a lobby, looking at the bulletin board screens. They were mainly focused on the one that showed who would be dueling in today's skills lesson. It was Jaden and Chazz.
"Look! Princeton VS Yuki!"
"That's going to be something!"
"Princeton, the junior champion who hasn't lost since he got here!"
"And the other is Yuki, the duelist who beat Doctor Crowler in the entrance exam!"
The crowd around the screen were startled when they saw Chazz behind them looking at the screen also with his arms crossed.
'So,' he thought. 'The time has finally come for me to face him.'
"Hey Chazz," greeted Jaden cheerfully as he walked up beside the Obelisk Blue. "It's you and me tomorrow, I can't wait."
"Wait for what," snorted Chazz. "For me to put you in your place."
The two rivals looked at each other and shot a deadly glare before they each walked off.
'Jaden Yuki,' Chazz thought. 'At first I paid no attention to him. Sure, him beating Crowler at the entrance exams was a surprise as well as him having Terra Firma, but he was no enemy to me.' He frowned as the thought of Winged Kuriboh entered his mind. 'Still…that card of his.'
"You must be Chazz Princeton," said Jaden, who had just bumped into the Junior Champion for the first time at the academy along with Syrus.
Chazz paused to study Jaden before replying, "That's me."
"I read about you in duel magazines all the time," Jaden went on. "You were invincible at those duel tournaments." He then held up Winged Kuriboh for Chazz to see. "I've always wanted to face that dragon of yours, with my Winged Kuriboh."
"How dare you!" snapped Chazz in response. "Don't treat your pathetic card as an equal to mine!"
"Hey!" retorted Jaden as Winged Kuriboh's spirit emerged and gave an angry cry. "That's my card you're talking about!"
Chazz, startled when he saw Jaden's duel spirit, took a step back. 'Did I just see what I think I saw?' he questioned in his mind.
"This one is special," commented Jaden, referring to his card. "This is my spirit partner."
That was when Chazz turned and frantically stormed away in shock. 'No way…his card too!'
"Hey!" shouted Jaden. "Where are you going?"
"Bro," piped up Syrus. "I think he was just a bit startled when you started talking about spirits."
Today's skill lesson was taking place outside near the side of the main Academy building. The students had surrounded Chazz and Jaden as they prepared to duel.
"In today's skill lesson," announced Crowler. "Under the suggestion of Mr. Princeton, we shall have an extra curricular duel."
Jaden raised an eyebrow at Chazz. "You went out of your way to set this up Chazz?" he whispered to himself.
Meanwhile, Chazz was facing the academy building, looking towards the place where his card lay buried.
'This duel is special Jaden,' he thought to himself. 'You shall win with a spirit…or I shall win without won. Which of us will be chosen!'
"Why's he staring at the dorms?" questioned Jaden quietly as Chazz turned back to face him with a fierce glare.
"I will defeat you Jaden!" declared Chazz. "It's all of nothing! You're going down!"
"Likewise Chazz!" returned Jaden as he and his opponent inserted their decks into their disks and activated them.
"Duel!"
Jaden Yuki 4000 VS Chazz Princeton 4000
Turn 1: Jaden
"I go first!" cried Jaden as he drew a card. "I draw!" He looked over his hand before picking one and slapping it down onto his disk. "I'll start by summoning Elemental HERO Stratos in attack mode!"
The sky began to churn and rumble before a warrior clad in armor with metal wings shot down and landed with a crash. He then stood up and faced Chazz.
Elemental HERO Stratos: Attack 1800
"And I'm activating a spell card as well!" continued Jaden as he slid the card into his disk. "Hero's Bond! Because I got a HERO on my field I can special summon another level four of below from my deck! Come on out Ocean!"
A blob of water emerged on the field before morphing into a humanoid sea serpent man with a scepter.
Elemental HERO Ocean: Attack 1600
"I think I'll end my turn by throwing down a face down!" concluded Jaden as the reverse card appeared on his field.
'Princeton,' Jaden thought with a smile. 'I'm getting all jittery with excitement. I'm finally fighting the junior champion. I can still remember how happy you looked, when you walked away with all those prizes. That's the Princeton I've always wanted to duel. But when I see you on campus now…you're different. You seem to be in a grip of agony when you duel.'
True it was, as Chazz had a very serious expression on his face.
'Jaden,' the Obelisk thought. 'I will win no matter what!'
Turn 2: Chazz
"Draw!" he declared as he swiftly pulled out a card from his deck. He eyed it before slapping it onto his disk. "I'll kick this off with my Dragonic Warrior!"
A humanoid dragon with a sword and wearing red armor appeared on the field.
Dragonic Warrior: Attack 1500
"Now that I have this guy on my field!" Chazz explained. "I can use the spell Dragonic Contract! With this, I get to summon a level four of lower Dragon straight from my deck! I choose this bad boy! The Armored Dragon!"
A large red dragon, about three times the size of Dragonic warrior, clad in armor emerged and roared.
Armored Dragon: Attack 1800
Jaden smirked. "So you're matching my swarm strategy I see."
"Not so fast!" interrupted Chazz as he slid a card into his disk. "Wait to you see what's these add up to! I'm using the Dragon Unite Ritual which allows me to discard a card from my deck and unite these two dragons and special summon from my deck…"
Dragon Warrior and Armored Dragon merged together, creating a large fierce dragon bigger then both of its materials, wearing silver armored and wielding a large sword.
"…Dragonic Knight!"
Dragonic Knight: Attack 2800
Jaden's eyes widened in shock at the sight of Chazz's powerful dragon, which roared in challenge.
The crowd themselves were impressed and shocked by the appearance of this mighty beast.
'I heard you bragging about becoming the next Duel King,' thought Chazz as he examined Jaden. 'But are you prepared to achieve it even at the price of something you love. Can you commit to it by making a vowel…like I did!'
"Go Dragonic Knight!" ordered Chazz as he threw his arm out. "Destroy Stratos with Dragonic Blade!"
The powerful dragon leapt forward and decapitated Jaden's monster with its mighty blade in one swift action.
Jaden groaned as he flung his arm up to block the recoil from the attack.
Jaden: 4000-3000
"Listen up Jaden Yuki!" declared Chazz coldly and fiercely. "You don't have what it takes!" He then gestured to himself. "I Chazz Princeton will be the next Duel King!"
To Be Continued: Next Time – "Spirit Bonds!"
The duel between Slifer Red Jaden Yuki and Obelisk Blue Chazz Princeton comes to a conclusion. Will Chazz and his dragons prove to his foe and his HERO monsters that a duelist must stand on their own two feet, or will Jaden and his spirit partner prove that teamwork is the best way to win?
Hope everyone liked this chapter and sorry that there are so many flashbacks and stuff that can make the chapter confusing, but that's how the manga does it so I don't have much choice. Sorry that this chapter is so much shorter then the first, but that's only because I greatly extended the first, including Syrus' duel with Ryuga and showing the full match between Jaden and Ryuga as well. I will do simila things in chapters that don't show full duels. I'll get creative and write out the parts we don't see to make things more interesting.
Anyways, PLEASE REVIEW/FAVORITE/FOLLOW!
