Chapter 1:
Unknown Family
Tetra stood at the side of her ship and watched the ocean's waves gently crashed on the sides of the pirate ship, causing it rock back and forth. The air smelled strongly of sea salt, clinging to almost everything.
Tetra wrinkled her nose and turned around to look at her ships deck. Something smelled fishy… The deck was spotless but something REALLY smelled.
"Oi! Nudge!" she called.
"Yes Miss Tetra?" called Nudge who was in control of the ship.
"Somethin' smells fishy. What is it?" Tetra frowned and crossed her arms, expecting an answer she wouldn't like to hear.
"Ugh, it is Niko and that Link boy again. They told me not to tell about them sneakin' around the boat but-"
"Shut up ya idiot. I don't mean something like that, I mean something really smells. Like… I don't know… BAD!" she yelled as she tapped her foot in annoyance on the ground. "And what are Niko and Link doing?!"
"OH SHIT! Wasn't supposed to tell her that…" Nudge whispered to himself. "Nothing Miss, nothing…" he said quietly turning his attention back to Tetra.
The worst possible crew… Tetra thought. She headed to the ship's hull in search for the two trouble makers. Tetra realized she was right about being told something she would not like to hear as she headed down the stairs to where Niko and Link would always practice swinging on lanterns.
"We're officially dead men. Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead…" Tetra heard Niko complain. She looked around the corner to see what they were doing.
"We are not dead men. We could clean this mess up in no time. Just a whole ton a fish waitin' to be dumped back into the ocean," said Link back.
"The Miss is goin to have are heads…"
"No. She. Is. Not. She wouldn't, considering I have saved her ass from Ganon all those times. She couldn't do it herself. No I'm Miss Fearsome Pirate of the Sea. I make everyone do my dirty work as I sit back as get captured. Yup, that's me," Link said mimicking Tetra in a high voice.
"Heh, ya, and my ass is too good to do such work. That is why I have me crew."
"Yo, Niko. Don't go insulting Tetra's ass. She happens to have a very nice one," Link laughed.
Tetra grimaced and revealed herself from where she hid. "What was that, Link?"
Link whipped around to come face-to-face with Tetra. He blushed a deep red and tried to smile. "Oh, Tetra… we were just… umm…" he stuttered. Niko stood behind Link and slowly backed away toward the door, not wanting to be caught in one of Tetra's outbursts.
In Niko's opinion, and probably everyone else that was of Tetra's crew, Tetra was scarier than the monsters that ravaged the sea and sometimes even the Man of Darkness, or as Tetra and Link called him: Ganondorf. The rest of the pirates knew exactly who he was and they refused to call him by his real name.
"If you got anything to say to me, say it to my face or else you- OI! What in the name of the Goddesses smells!?" She exclaimed.
Link and Niko turned to each other and Link walked away from where he stood, revealing a pile of putrid, rotting fish scattered along the ground. Few fish were actually in the crates they were originally in.
Tetra's upper lip curled in disgust. "LISTEN TO ME RIGHT NOW! You are to clean this up immediately! AH! Why are you two so immature?! I dont even want to know how this happened..." Tetra frowned and stormed out of the room into her bedchamber. The rest of her crew had heard the outburst and gathered around to see. "GET BACK TO WORK, DAMMIT!" she yelled as she passed them by.
The pirates hurried off and Tetra fell onto her bed. She buried her face into her pillow and tried to calm herself. She tried thinking of the times when she was oh so younger and used to play princess with the jewelry in her chest.
But she was a princess, so how could she play it? Tetra hated being a Princess. If it was up to her, she would still be a fearless pirate of the seas, no more, no less. Not a princess merely playing pirate. There was such a big difference between the two, and she sometimes wished there was no such thing or word as Princess.
Tetra pushed herself up and sat crossed legged on her bed, wondering what had happened to the people that lived on the islands of the Great Sea. It had been four years since Link and she had seen them. Four long years stuck on the boat with that annoying so called hero. Tetra now was sixteen as well as Link, but he did not act it like she did.
She sighed and walked over to her chest. She flung it open and rummaged through her belongings. She pulled out a golden necklace and brought it to her face. She stared at the golden chain and small Triforce, trying to think of who her parents might be.
She had asked Senza, Gonzo, Nudge, Niko, Mako, and Zuko about it plenty times. But they refused to answer and continued on with somthing else whenever asked. Most of the time, they kept her occupied so she would not bring up the topic.
Tetra desperately wanted to know who her parents were, even if it meant doing anything. Including giving up her title of Princess to a stranger. As long as she had family, she would be happy. Or even giving up being pirate captain… Tetra shuddered at the thought of not being captain. What would she do? Live on a dull and boring island like Link had when he was younger? Yea, she didn't think so. Being pirate captain was her life.
She clutched the necklace in her hand and walked up to her mirror. Tetra sighed and put it around her neck, hidden under her blood red bandana. A frown slowly spread across her face as she heard yelling up on the deck.
"What is going on up here?" she asked, viciously flinging the door open.
On the deck, Gonzo was chasing Mako around with a fish, apparently angry. Link, Niko, and all of the other pirates were standing in the corner cheering. "Go Gonzo!" they yelled. "You could get 'em!"
Tetra felt her anger growing inside her. She would give them one minute to stop, if not, she would, one-by-one and personally, have them walk the plank.
The time was up and Tetra felt her rage about to burst. Gonzo and Mako still had not stopped, but now Mako was after the big, burly pirate. Which Tetra thought was pathetic because of the size difference.
"HEY!" she finally screamed.
Mako was on top of Gonzo, about to whack him across the face with the fish, but he stopped to look at the pirate captain. Gonzo looked up, too, from his position on the ground. Link and the other pirates grew silent as Tetra yelled.
"YOU ARE PATHETIC! NIKO, GET RID OF THE FISH. NUDGE, GO STEER THE SHIP. THE REST OF YOU GO CLEAN!!! LINK, YOU COME WITH ME!"
The pirates quickly hurried to their jobs and Link walked slowly over to Tetra. "Yes, Miss?" he asked.
"Come with me." Tetra led Link into her room trying to calm herself down once again. "Sit," she commanded, pointing to her bed.
Link looked confused and reluctantly sat down.
"Link, I have allowed you to come with us. But since then, you haven't done any damn thing to help. We are supposed to be searching for the new Hyrule, and obviously, we have had no success."
"And…" Link said urging her on.
"And I was thinking that we should just give up on it. Finding this new land I mean." Tetra turned her back to the Hero of Winds and sighed. "Is there even a point?"
Link fell silent for a moment. "Tetra, I honestly don't know… I wish I did. But if the King of Red Lions wanted us to do it, it is probably for the best."
Tetra slammed her fists off the wooden chest she stood in front of her. "So, what you're saying is that you believe what some one thousand year old man says? Not all that are old are wise, Link."
"But he may be your only family that you have ever known. Do you think that Ganondorf was a trick? That you're really not a princess of a golden land when you were almost killed because of it? Tetra, it has to be real." Link stood up and put his hand on Tetra's shoulder. "We have traveled so far. Do you really want to give up now?" he said softly.
Tetra shrugged Link's hand off her shoulder and looked at him. "Link, you may leave now. I think I am going to sleep this through. And tell everyone that if I am woken up, they will be begging for mercy by the time I'm not even halfway through with them."
Link made an odd expression and ran off to leave Tetra in peace.
She sat back down on her bed and then laid down, whispering to herself, "I have traveled so far…" she pulled her blankets over her head and fell silently to sleep, knowing that tomorrow would not be any better than of today.
