Chapter 2

Amanda nawed at he bottom lip in effort to hold back tears. She was unaware of how tightly she to her Sargeant's hand. She was unaware that she was holding her hand at all. But Olivia didn't mind. Instead she easily bore the minimal pain, lending Amanda her full support.

"I know this seams silly," Amanda chuckled lightly.

"Sweetheart," the burnent whispered quietly so as to be mindful of the other patients, "Frannie is your pet. You give her love and affection, sacrificing your time and money to take care of her. Of course this is difficult she's your pet."

A Small veterinarian edited the double doors and entered the small waiting room. Olivia could tell, after being the bearer of bad news so Manny times the the news wasn't going to be good. But Amanda was still hopeful.

"Your dog has a large tumor in his front right paw."

"She." Amanda declared. "He's a she. The name is Frannie you idiot."

Olivia clutched Amanda's knee and patted softly, hoping to calm Amanda.

"Is it cancerous?" Olivia asked. "And can it be removed?

"It is cancerous," The veterinarian replied. "Because it is in his upper front leg and closed to her haert it has the potential to infect her haert."

"What happeneds then?" Amanda asked, now nearing tears.

"If it does infect her heart then it will quickly vtake over and kill her."

"So then how do we stop it?" Olivia asked fervently.

"We would have to aputate her leg. But because the tumor and medical attention her body may not be strong enough to take the surgery. At he bone density, blood pressure and physical health she has a 14% chance of surviving the surgery."

"So what we remove the tumor and wait it out," Amanda asks, browws furrowed, reaching hysteria.

"Because removing the tumor would be just as dangerous as removing the leg we have no choice but to leave it there. It till take over her body in a matter of months. So you have the option of letting the cancer take her naturally or putting her down and taking her out of her misery."

"I don't wanna kill her," Amanda replied. "But I also don't want her last days to be spent in pain and misery."

Amanda took the pen and gathered up the courage to write her signature. Her heart sunk. Olivia let tears fall as she watched Amanda says her final goodbye.

"I don't get it," Olivia stated as she drove Amanda to her home. It not that I want you to be depressed or anything thing, it's just.. you haven't even shed a tear."

"I am sad. But I guess I just prefer to celebrate the beginning of life than the the end of it."

"Amanda are you pregnant?"
