001: Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. For some time after it's birth, it grows by gaining nourishment from the seed-like bulb on it's back. At one time, this bulb was so light that Bulbasaur could stand and walk on two feet, but prolonged exposure to the sun meant the bulb developed more and grew heavier.
Bulbasaur is a dual-type Grass and Poison Pokémon, and is one of three Pokémon that can be a trainer's starter Pokémon in the Kanto region, along with Charmander and Squirtle. At level sixteen, it evolves into Ivysaur, and at level thirty-two it evolves into Venusaur.
[For more information on Charmander and Squirtle, see 004: Charmander and 007: Squirtle respectively.]
The gender ratio of Bulbasaur is 87.5% male to 12.5% chance of being female. Bulbasaur can have two abilities, Overgrow or Chlorophyll. The chance of this Pokémon having Chlorophyll is rare, as this is ability is a Hidden ability.
In different areas, Bulbasaur is known under different names. These names are: Fushigidane, Bulbizarre, Bisasam, Isanghessi, Keiyizhungjí, and Miàowāzhǒngzǐ
It is very rare to find a Bulbasaur in the wild. If looking for one, the best place to locate it would be in the Hidden Garden in the Kanto region. Even here the chances of finding one are rare.
Bulbasaur are noted to be extremely docile Pokémon, most of whom having been raised in captivity. Those found in the wild are noted to be slightly more aggressive.
Through leveling up, Bulbasaur can learn the following moves: Tackle, Growl, Vine Whip, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Take Down, Razor Leaf, Sweet Scent, Growth, Double-Edge, Worry Seed, Synthesis and Seed Bomb.
Upon evolution, Bulbasaur's movepool becomes more developed, expanding to include moves such as Sludge Bomb and Solar Beam.
[Note: moves marked in bold will be more effective when used by this Pokémon, due to it's typing.]
Through TM Bulbasaur can learn useful moves such as Sunny Day, Venoshock, Energy Ball, Grass Knot, Return, Double Team and Protect. Bulbasaur can also be taught how to use the grass-type move, Grass Pledge.
Bulbasaur's popularity comes from it's choice as the starter Pokémon of Red, the Champion of the Kanto region.
