I do not own Harry Potter or its characters
Chapter Two: The deal
The fact I had kissed Sirius again made its way through Hogwarts quite fast. However, the fact he had one chance to prove he had changed did not. Which resulted in me getting hateful glares wherever I went. My friends didn't agree with it either. They knew the mess I had been when he had broken up with me. It didn't matter how many times I tried to tell them it was different this time, because I wasn't the innocent, foolish girl I was back then. They still believed I would get my heart broken. Which wouldn't happen, because I wasn't in love this time. It was just a sort of date.
"And I still think it's a bad idea," Rose said while she flipped a page of her book. "You haven't talked to him in two years and we all know he has gone his merry way since then. I don't get it. You're pretty and I know Bertram really likes you. I just don't understand why you would waste your time on someone like him."
Janine snorted and I shot her a pointed look. Why didn't my friends have more confidence in me? You would think after all these years, they would ought to know I could make my own decisions.
"Kelly, you're a smart girl. There's a reason you're sorted in Ravenclaw. But sometimes it seems as though you don't use your brain at all."
Oh they were in their complimenting mood. How nice of them to think of me that way.
"Thank you for questioning my intelligence, but I'm old enough to make my own choices. And for the last time, it's not like were officially dating. It's just drinks at the three broomsticks. How bad could that be?"
Rose and Janine looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Sometimes I really wondered why I was friends with them. Why hadn't I chosen other friends at the beginning of my first year? Or why hadn't I been sorted in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff?
"Well you would have to sit with Potter. Which might not be so bad if it was just him. But Black, Potter, Lupin and Pettigrew together are loud and obnoxious."
I sighed. They were right about that. Even though it had only been a week last time, I could still remember his loud friends. Or loud friend actually. Pettigrew and Lupin weren't that bad, but the combination of Potter and Sirius was awful. But I had changed and maybe they had as well. It wasn't fair to judge them on a memory.
"We'll see what happens. I'm going in with an open mind you know. Maybe it's going to be fun, maybe it's going to be awful. I don't know what could be if I didn't give it a chance."
My friends rest their case and decided I would see my mistake sooner or later. I knew they were only looking out for me, but Ravenclaw students could be overconfident when it came to their knowledge. Yes we knew more than other students, but sometimes we were just book smart.
We studied for another hour before going down for dinner. The advanced potions classes were really interesting and I had gotten two extra books from the library about polyjuice potion. I told myself I could read three or four more chapter tonight. Rose told us how her little brother failed his first Transfiguration test, while we walked down the endless staircase. It sometimes frustrated me we had to walk that much. The Slytherins had it easy. Just one staircase up and they were close to the Great Hall. The Hufflepuffs had almost the same small walk since their common room was located close to the kitchens in the basement. The only one who also had to go up where the Gryffindors, but they had the moving stairs, which sometimes felt like cheating.
When we finally arrived at our table I sat down and met the stares of some Gryffindor girls. Oh great, it was one of those days again.
"Marlene Mckinnon is looking at you," Janine pointed out.
"She's not the only one," Rose said. I don't know why they kept mentioning it. It wasn't like we could change anything about it "Why don't you wave at him?"
I frowned at her before I looked over at the Gryffindor table. Sirius was staring at me and flashed me a grin when he saw me looking. I rolled my eyes, but acknowledged his attention with a smile. He patted on the spot next to him. Was he serious? I wasn't going to sit at his table. That was walking to my own death. Didn't he see the death glares Marlene was sending?
I shook my head and his grin grew. He patted on the same spot again. Merlin that boy wouldn't take no for an answer. I shook my head again and focused attention on my friends. Rose was have a smug smile on her face and Janine was staring at Sirius.
"Can we just ignore that boy and start with dinner?" I asked and for once my friends listened to me.
I had just filled my plate with some mashed potatoes and peas when I had the feeling I was being watched. I took a glance and the Gryffindor table, but Sirius wasn't there? Where was he? I tried not to think too negative, but somewhere deep down I knew there was a chance he was off with some girl. It wouldn't be out of character for him.
Suddenly someone sat down next to me. "Hey Kels."
I groaned. Why was he making this so hard for me? I wasn't someone who was really interested in attention and when you were a girl in the presence of Sirius, well everyone noticed you.
"Sirius," I answered politely while scooped up some peas.
"Why didn't you come sit with me? I was all alone."
Rose snorted and he looked at her. She turned slightly red and tried to hide her face behind her goblet while pretending to drink.
"You weren't alone Sirius. Potter, Lupin and Pettigrew are sitting there as well. As is McKinnon," I pointed out. One thing hadn't changed at all apparently. Sirius was still quite good at exaggerating.
"Woah, what's with the surnames. You know their names, you've met them," Sirius said while he stuffed his mouth with pie.
"I met them once and we sometimes have classes with them, but it's not like we're friends. As far as I'm concerned we're not on first name basis. Which is by the way fine by me, if you were planning on introducing me right now," I said and he grinned.
"You'll love them, just wait and see," he said.
Rose and Janine were following the conversation and I was surprised they hadn't interfered yet. Most of the time they couldn't wait with their opinions. I took one look at them and was surprised to see they were staring at him. I couldn't quite read them and wondered what was going on.
"Well Kels, I'm going back to my table. See you tomorrow in Defense against the Dark Arts."
He grabbed my face and gave a soft kiss on the lips. With a wink he stood up and left the table. I was speechless for a moment. A soft kiss? No snogging or groping? What was going on? I looked at my friends who were now looking at me.
"I'll bet you three Galleons he's still playing you," Janine said eventually and I rolled my eyes. Rose nodded in agreement.
"You know what," I said, fed up with the annoying opinions of my friends. "Let's make a bet. If Sirius hasn't hurt me at the end of March, you win and I owe both of you three Galleons. But if we're still friends or even a couple, I get three Galleons from you two."
Rose and Janine looked at each other. "That's a deal."
Well I decided to change this story form a one-shot into a multiple chapter story. I don't think it will be too long. Probably around the ten or fifteen chapters. If you're more interested in a novel length story I suggest you check out my other story Show me the magic. Hope you guys liked and let me know what you think in a review.
