Granger Family Reunion
Chapter 1
June 1st Summer 2013, Malfoy Manor Scotland
Hermione Malfoy née Granger was sitting at the breakfast table with her two sons and daughter reading the mail when she came upon the invitation to the annual Granger Family Reunion. Thinking back to the last time she attended the reunion, she groaned. Her aunts and cousins inherited money from both sides of their families and consequently were very stuck up and always bullying her because of her love of school, good grades, buck teeth and bushy hair. The last time she attended a reunion was when she was 10 years old and since then she has only sent notifications of big events in her life, her marriage to Draco and the birth of 3 kids or visited with her Grandparents. Aside from that, she liked to just give them an excuse ranging from a pre-planned holiday to attending a charity event; but it looked like they communicated with her parents and found a free weekend or they just had really good timing. Looking at the letter attached to the invite from her Grandparents she read that she had to attend this year because her cousins had an announcement and they missed seeing her.
"Is everything OK mum?" Hermione looked up at her eldest son Orion and sighed. Her children had only heard stories about her aunts, uncles, and cousins and that was not fair. She had really nice grandparents, an aunt, and uncle along with their two children that she got along with, it was not their fault that disliked her two other aunts and uncles along with their snobby kids. Snapping out of her thoughts, Hermione looked at her children and thought about how proud she was.
Her eldest son was now 13 years old and was just about to start his third year. Orion Draconis Malfoy had taken after his father with his tall, skinny but muscled body. He had pale skin, aristocratic cheekbones, and grey eyes. The only physical trait that he inherited from her was the fact that his hair was wavy. He was everything the heir to the Malfoy line should be: confident but not arrogant (within reason), knowledgeable, and powerful. Her second son had a very similar personality but while Orion liked Quidditch and potions, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy liked to read, swim and translate literature. Scorpius had the same bleach blond hair has his elder brother and father but had his mother's eyes, a chocolate brown that sparkled when he was learning something new. Where Scorpius was 10, her daughter Cassiopeia Alaya Malfoy had just turned 8. While Cassiopeia looked like Hermione with her long brown wavy hair that reached her waist and chocolate brown eyes, she had her father's facial structure and looked like the aristocratic heiress that she was. Cass loved to learn new languages, write and take photos.
"Mum?" Hermione snapped out her thoughts at the sound of Orion's worried tone. She knew that Orion understood that she still thought about the war and its effects, even if it did not affect her every day. Orion would occasionally show worry that their parents were not as ok as they seemed, and while it saddened her that he had to think about the effects a war had at home; a war he learned about at school, she was glad it was over and appreciated the concern.
"I am Ok Orion, I was just thinking about this invitation to the Granger Family Reunion. You guys deserve to meet the better people from my family even if that means we have to put up with a few snobs. We will have a family meeting about it later after I discuss it with your father. It will be easy to arrive as it will be held at our resort in Hawaii (not that they know that) and we can continue on from there to New York, but I do wish that it would not just be us, as my family can be very trying."
"If it is being held at our resort then why don't we use it as our intermission between France and New York? That way we can bring along Uncle Harry and the rest of the group."
"Very well Orion, that idea has merit. I will bring it up at today's gathering. Do any of you feel that it would be a bad idea?"
Getting three shaking heads she sent the kids to complete their summer work while she called the rest of the adults and decided what do.
Harry Potter was sitting by the at Potter Castle when he got a text through his IMT (Instant Magic Text) that there was going to be a family meeting at Malfoy Manor to finalize their summer itinerary. He still felt a burst of happiness at the sight of those words. He knew that while he would always mourn the loss of his parents, Sirius and Remus; this was his family. The people that were always there for him and those who he built a life with. He would get to know his ancestors during the next great adventure but he would be happy to live his life and watch his children grow up into intelligent, gorgeous and amazing adults.
Harry thoughts wandered over to his children. Edward "Teddy" Lupin-Potter was now 15 years old and going into his 5th year at Hogwarts. Teddy had gained full control of his metamorphmagus abilities and was now usually morphed it a combination of his parents and Harry. He had his mother's heart shape, father's brown hair, and Harry's emerald green eyes. Teddy's personality was a combination of Tonks' and Remus' and Ginny's; he was caring, craved knowledge but was a powerhouse when angered. Harry's eldest biological son was now 13 years old, James Sirius Potter was a combination of his namesake and Harry. James was confident, proud, loved to prank, a critical thinker and he was very protective of his family. James had inherited both his mother and fathers love of flying and played chaser on the Gryffindor house team. James had his father's messy hair and mothers brown eyes. Charles Regulus Potter was now 10 and looked like a carbon copy of his father's younger self. Charles also had the same personality as Harry, caring, putting others first but calculating. Like Harry, Charles had a possibility of getting into both Slytherin and Gryffindor. Lillian Elizabeth Potter age 8 looked like a mix between her mother and namesake Lily Evans. Her was a more vibrant red like her mothers, but she had Lilly Evans' nose, freckles, and eyes. She loved to sit outside by the lake or fly and had the same fiery temper that her mother had.
Draco Malfoy was sitting in his study going over new proposed legislation when he heard someone knock on his door. Looking up, he saw his wife leaning in the doorway and he smiled at the sight. Draco could see that his wife was thinking about something and he rightly assumed that it was about their summer plans.
"Hey, Mya. Come in."
"Dray, we have received the annual invitation to the Granger Family Reunion and it somehow managed to get a date that would work for us as well as our resort in Hawaii. While I hate about half of the family it would be nice to see some of my cousins and let the kids get to know their family. After speaking with the kids I was thinking about using it as a layover between trips and bringing all of us. It would only be this year and we would have to use our muggle explanation but now that is easier with our fame in the muggle world and we would need to take a plane instead of portkey but I think that we could even use this as training for the kids; how to deal with rude family members because this won't be their only encounter with rude people and relatives, especially with our fame in both worlds."
"Hermione! Calm down, you're rambling." Draco interrupted Hermione's rant with a chuckle. "I think it is a good idea as we have not been in the Muggle world with the kids for a holiday for two years. As for bringing the rest of the family, do you really think you could keep your brothers away from snooty cousins and aunts that thought it would be a good idea to bully and belittle you when you were a child? We can pull a full family special and treat them like a politician; humor them and make it seem as if we are equals.
That day it was decided that the entire "family" would be in attendance. They would arrive in their private airplane with Hermione's parents and continue their summer training. The kids would make sure they had all their summer work done so that they would be able to get to know their cousins. Training would be discussed as well as completed in front of the Grangers so that they continue the show of rich noble family members and their importance. It would be their full public/political mask, with the adults acting as their titled positions and their children acting as the well-behaved heirs and heiress expected of them in public. Everyone had a laugh at the fact that the Grangers would not know what hit them
Authors Note-
I felt compelled to say that I usually do not ship Draco with Hermione but I prefer it for this type of story. If I were to write another story, it would most likely follow canon pairings.
I thought about introducing Ron's kids in this chapter but I felt that it would make the chapter seem to repeat itself. So while I will include names, descriptions may just make it in subtly throughout the rest of the story.
I also don't know about the length of this story, I think I will do about 5-7 chapters but that may change. Updates will be sporadic throughout this month, I am on spring break so I will complete as much as I can before posting about once every two weeks after that (should I not be able to complete this).
I would appreciate any and all reviews because this is my first fanfiction and I don't know how my writing style is received.
