I don't plan on putting the scenes in an order. I just want to show diffrent point of views. I hope you enjoy this one.
Kara and Lena: The responsibility-Being human
Kara is calling Lena.
Kara: Hi Lena! Have you heard from James? He didn't show up at CatCo this morning. He is not answering his phone, I am kind of worried.
Lena: No, sorry Kara. But I don't think he is to keen on speaking with me either.
Kara: What happened? (Worried) Do you want to talk about it?
Lena: You could come over for lunch. Bring Big Belly Burger!
Kara: Sure. I see you at lunch.
Lena: Bye Kara.
At lunchtime Kara makes her way to L-Corp picking up Big Belly Burger up on the way. She steps out of the elevator and walks up to Lena's office, but no one is there. Eve walks up to Kara.
Kara: Hi, Eve, where is Lena?
Eve: She is in the lab. I call her to come up. She has been waiting for you.
A few minutes later Lena comes out of the elevator. She finds Eve and Kara talking in the hallway.
Lena: Kara, it is so great that you could come. Eve, don't spill all my secrets!
Eve: I would never do that, Ms. Luther.
Kara and Lena settle on the couch in Lena's office, while Eve closes the door leaving them alone.
Kara: What are you working on? Eve mentioned that you were in the lab.
Lena: Top secret! (lifting an eye brow) You are the first to find out, when I can be sure it works.
Kara: Well I hope it works out for you. (Serious) So what happened with James?
Lena: Burgers first.
Kara: Fine, but you are not getting out of this. (pointing seriously at Lena)
They finish their food doing small talk about CatCo stuff. Takes the last bite.
Kara: So, James?
Lena: (Taking a deep breath) After you an Alex left at Thanksgiving, he went to see his Children of Liberty contact. I tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't listen. We got into a fight and he told me not to freak out about every little problem in his life. Telling me that Guardian Case worked out fine, even though I was so worried. I got angry and told him that I made a deal with DA, to get his case dropped.
Kara: You did? (Screwing her nose)
Lena: Well, the situation was not good, so I trade information about Bruno Manheim. I just didn't want to lose him. I already lost so many people to jail. I would do anything to protect the people I care about. He said that he didn't want to be part of that, if that is what love is for me.
Kara: Oh… (pulls Lena into a hug) … I am so sorry.
Lena: It's not your fault.
Kara: I know. But I do know what is like to lose people. I would do anything to protect you and Alex. He shouldn't have said that. He should understand how important it is for you to protect the people you care about.
They say in a quiet hug for a while.
Kara: James, doesn't know what it is like to lose someone. Not the way you did. Going behind his back wasn't a great move, but I drought that he would have let you help. He can be stubborn like that. Sometimes you don't have a choice.
Lena: Thanks for understanding.
Kara: James never lost people the way we did. He doesn't understand that.
Lena: Well enough of that. You were pretty quiet about the hole argument that went on at Thanksgiving.
Kara is moving away from Lena.
Kara: What do you mean?
Lena: Well, what would you do if you could make humans super?
Kara: Oh, that. Mmmh… I am not sure. Powers like the once Supergirl has are a great responsibility. I am not so sure if it would be a good idea.
Lena: Why? Imagine we could have human heroes like Supergirl?
Kara: (Adjusting her glasses) I just think that most people wouldn't be able to bare that kind of responsibility. Most aliens that are on earth, are refugees, they went through a lot and therefore are able to bare that kind of responsibility. They lost so much, that they would betray their most fundamental instincts, just to fit in, just to have a life.
Lena: So, you think humans aren't strong enough to handle the responsibility?
Lena looks at Kara, disbelieving.
Kara: No, that is not what I mean. (adjusting her glasses again) Did you ever think about why Supergirl keeps her identity a secret?
Lena: Because she doesn't trust the public.
Kara: No that is not the main reason. It is because she is a normal person. Having a normal life, a normal job. That is what keeps her grounded. That kind of power can get to you head easily. But living an ordinary life, like everyone else, keeps her human.
Lena: Why would Supergirl ever want to be human, if she can be Supergirl?
Kara: Supergirl is an icon, a symbol. Supergirl is what the world needs, not who she is.
Lena: You are the most outspoken Supergirl fan I know. You wrote numerous articles praising her. Why would you say that?
Kara: I just understand that Supergirl is not a real person. She doesn't get to have friends or family. She has to represent all the good in the world, but not even she is always good. She is not always happy, not always perfect and not always hopeful. She has bad days like everyone else. But the world is not ready to see that. They want a perfect hero. Therefore, she hides who she is behind her cape.
Lena: How do you know all of that?
Kara: "As I said …we…(adjusting her glasses again) we have been friends for a long time.
Lena: You know who she is, don't you? (quirking an eyebrow)
Kara: Mmmmh…(adjusting her glasses)…Well…
Lena: You do! (piercing Kara with her stare)
Kara: You…you know I can't tell you that.
Lena: I know, it is worth a shot though.
Kara: Well, I worked for Cat. She is like an interviewing villain. So, good luck!
They both laugh. Lena gets serious again.
Lena: But don't people recognise her? She obviously doesn't wear a mask. How does she hide that she is Supergirl? In her normal life, I mean.
Kara: (looking down, trying to think of something) Well…surprisingly not. The amount of people who ever figured out her identity by themselves can be counted on less than one hand.
Lena: Well, her disguise must be really good then?
Kara looks up to Lena and then back down
Kara: Yes, ….I guess you could say that. (looking to her hands in her lab)
Lena: You are not answering the question, Kara.
Kara: What question?
Lena: How she hides her identity?
Kara: Oh…well people see her as a God, practically. So, they could never imagine her living like one of them.
Lena: That's all? There is not some magic trick or hidden superpower behind it?
Kara: It's stupid I know. (adjusting her glasses again) So what have you been up to apart from you experiments?
Lena: Just the usual. Board meetings with old white arrogant men, who think I can't do my job.
Kara: Sucks, doesn't it?
Lena: Well any interesting articles, I should look out for, in the works?
Kara: I am still writing my Aliens in National City series. I want people to see that aliens are just the same as human. They have all the same flaws, hopes and fears. Hopefully that makes people less afraid.
Lena: Well you are way too good for this world.
Kara: I am just doing what I can. (shrugging) Oh, and I am working on a profile about that talk show guy I had to face. What was his name again? … Ben Lookwood. Apparently, he got his own talk show now. I drought he is spreading anything good with it though. I am going to keep it neutral though, just facts.
Lena: And she is brave too!
Kara: (smiling shy) No, I am just doing my job. And with that I have to go back to CatCo, before James fires me. Well if he as shown up.
Lena: Well, I won't let him fire my best reporter.
Kara gets up and Lena follows. They hug.
Lena: Bye Kara.
Kara: See you around.
With that Kara leaves. As Lena heads back down to her office, she thinks: 'That woman! Sometimes I wounder how much she really knows. She surely knows a lot more than she lets on.'
