Chapter two
Talking leave
Roxanne was sitting at her desk doing paperwork, finishing up the last of the "Due date" ones. She finished up the last of the stack. Spreading out on her office with a massive sigh of relief. Wasn't just caught up she was ahead of paperwork for the next week, oh the sense of accomplishment she felt. Putting down her pen and picking up the tiny pile of on-time work she honestly hated and feared William T. Spears nagging her about overdue Paperwork, so she kept her inbox small. Walking over to Williams large boss like brown doors giving a gentle knock. She waited a moment for the response to come in. She did and saw the office occupied by a single desk William sat behind the counter not even glancing up from whatever he was working on she placed it in the inbox and stared at her highest superior in this division she often wonder what it was like inside his mind.
William seemed to notice her stare and looked up with his Sharp gaze. That seemed to say harshly 'May I help you with something?'She Jumped a little bit and remembered What happened today and why she was here to tell . But that wasn't what came out.
" I believe you have fieldwork in the Little Whinging with ." Cold yellow-green eyes bearing down on her.
"Well, you see..." Roxanne grumbled.
"Mr. Scorch and I had a little... disagreement while out, and...well... I'm SORRY Mr. Spears I was Unable to retrieve Vanessa, Gabriel, Floren's soul. I hold myself entirely responsible for the destruction of her cinematic records and soul." Roxanne bowed deeply in a very Asian style apologie.
William sigh didn't heighten her already low spirits. He placed down the fountain pen and laced his fingers. "This is not the First time that you have taken responsibility for witnessing the loss and destruction of a soul over the eleven years since the accident at the Potter household-"
"329," Roxann interrupted
"What?"
"I said '329' soules destroyed," Roxann said towards her shoes "and I know every one of their names."
Williams' face was that of disbelief. "I'm sure you're overestimating ."
"Like I said 'I Know every one of them.'I know there names 'Death days', everything." Roxann said.
"You wouldn't tell me this without reason. What are you telling me?"
"I'm tired of losing souls without knowing WHY!" Roxann shouted. Realizing that her voice was raising.
"Sorry 'bout that."
"Yes. I believe I agree with you there." William said
"I'm letting you know beforehand that, I don't offer this often. You should take leave from the office until you figure out what is causing it and if there is a cure."
"Thank you." Roxann didn't see that coming. She turned, her mind floated towards the exit of the room. She stopped her airy thoughts. "Wait, you wanted to know 'why,' Mr. spear?"
"Yes. Now leave" didn't need to say anymore his scythe was already scary enough being the punishment stick for on hand problems with Grell.
Roxann was out of the Reaper realm by noon. She arrived inside some sort of Zoo. Suitcase in hand, and looking somewhat like a Human. The screech of the sea lions somewhere caught her attention before there was a sudden wall of flesh that ran into her "ow sorry," she said "I should watch where I'm going"
The wall of flesh that she ran into was a large boy that had a fat neck "rude" the boy said moving away "Appeared out of nowhere and ruined my cone." he chatted to his friend walking next to him. Another boy appeared above her.
"sorry 'bout my cousin," the new boy said.
"no, I'm sorry I didn't know where I was headed." Roxanne took the boy's hand and felt a shock as she stood up. She breathed in the fresh scent of the jungle looked at the human boy and saw a sickly green aurora around him.
"Well Dudley's rude anyway, he didn't even stop to apologize to you." the green aurora boy said
"Na," Roxanne said remembering the human-term being said on one of her visit with Ronald. " I don't need an apology back. Q: Did you feel shocked travel up your spine when I grabbed your hand?"
"No?"
"Nothing just you seem familiar." suddenly there was the oh so familiar pain in her right shoulder. she grabbed it with her left hand. " I hate it when I have to be near magic folk," Roxann thought
"You okay?" the boy asked.
"No sir, just an old wound acting up" Roxanne returned to the normal way she talked with her superiors "sensitive like with stormes. Ya know, in tv how the old guy with no legs knows there's a storm coming."
"Yeah, " the boy said understandingly he rubbed his forehead right in the middle. Roxanne realized this and was wondering why. A Name would help her know the reason.
"I'm Roxann Mbarim," Roxanne said with what felt like a weird smile on her face. The boy took her hand and shook it firmly.
"Harry Potter " Roxanne practically facepalmed. Of course, we were hit by the same spell! That's why we're reacting to each other. Oww stupid curse. Roxanne hissed to herself to suck-it-up. Focusing on Harry, she realized that his Aunt Petunia was not there.
"You should probably go catch up with your family, no matter how bad they might be," Roxanne said. Harry stated casing after his family but be before he got out of sight with the crowd he called back.
"It was nice meeting you, Roxanne" and Harry ran off to catch up with his family.
Now to find the retiree. Roxanne wonder aimlessly looking for anyone that gave off the 'grim reaper' signal. Roxanne walked the entire park before she stopped in front of a restaurant(that just so happened to be where the Dursleys were eating)having she spotted movement that shouldn't have been seen. It could be described as shimmering in the sunlight.
Distracted by its unnatural shininess, she followed it for a little way before pulling the invisible cloth from the user. A tall African man appeared standing in the middle of a crowd in strange robe, for non-powered mortals this was a peculiar sight to see. For a reaper, on the other hand, this was a ...
"Crap," Roxanne thought " I should have known that Dumbledore guy would send his order to keep an eye on Harry." absentmindedly slapped her hand over her mouth in the process dropping the invisibility cloak. "Stupid Ronald Knox and David Scotch and their swearing getting into my head."
"Is something wrong? " the Man asked.
"Sorry I thought you were someone else" Roxanne lied smoothly it being apart of the
But apparently, He saw right through it when he saw that she was holding his cloak.
"How did you see the invisibility cloak."
"well..I.. don't...know..how..to..explain it," Roxanne said adding on to the lie. Her temper was getting shorter with each question. She knew the reason she could see magic auras.
"Well, you also seem to know Harry Potter quite well."
She didn't answer this question because she would reveal the entire reason she was there and confirm the existence of reapers. Her irritation burst into flames, literally. The African man jumped back is surprised that the cloak was on fire. To Roxanne, it felt nothing more than a tingle in her hands.
"Should I help with that?" the wizard asked pulling out his wand. Roxanne finally looked at the cloak in her hand to see it burning her annoyance towards the wizarding world was now directed more at herself than anyone else. She was irritated, and that was making the fire bigger.
"No" she snapped at the wizard there was a presence of a non-human in the area making her irritation go to another level.
Bwahahahahaha a laughing man cried.
That's it she is done with these weirdos she tossed the invisibility cloak back to its owner spun on her heel throwing the suitcase in a fire spiral of death to the laughing male in the crowd.
. "Ahh" Roxanne sighed "that feels better."
"May I ask your name," The wizard said
"My name Is Mbarim Roxanne. And I hope I never have to deal with you again." Roxanne said and stalked off the retrieve her suitcase from the dead looking man. She arrived at the body The bag had hit the offending target dead on in the chesed she squinted her eyes to see that the man was not a man at all, but a death god; though had he been mortal he would have died instantly.
'Thank you, offending man for not being mortal William could have literally killed me with his scythe' Roxann thought and picked up her suitcase.
"Get up," Roxanne said kicking the death god.
He giggled "You must be the reaper on leave, I was sent to pick up. Roxy such a-"
He was cut short by Roxanne slamming the suitcase into his gut. 'Roxy' was the annoying nickname Mr. Sutcliffe had given her after the night she reaped the potters. well, she couldn't brutally murder him as he was the one she would be staying with for the year.
"Just don't call me Roxy."
