Chapter 1

It was almost dark, and as she walked alone, she tried to release all her tension from her suspicions about the danger she faced. Once again, she was daydreaming. She had dazed back into the world where her worries became nothing. It was a five-minute walk to the parking lot, and she decided not to cut it short.

She took out the key and took a glimpse at the carved letters on the wooden key holder. R and A—those letters were her initials, whittled by her father when he was still alive. She felt the deep incisions. Fifteen years did not seem to erode its wooden figure. Coincidence, it did play a role. She glanced at the key holder again. A few years ago, the print meant Raven Avery. Now it meant more like Raven and Adam. They were married for 5 years now.

She found her car at the rear-parking slot. Once more, she took out her keys and quietly opened the door.

He was anxiously sitting at the porch, obviously waiting for someone. He had told her to meet him at five, just before his wife came home. He was relieved to find that his spouse was late, even though that rarely happened. He was worried now, but not about Raven. He had something else to attend to...

She took a drink all too fast, she was behind schedule and she knew it. Yet, she also figured that he would wait for her, no matter what. After all, he loved her, even to the extent of cheating on his mate. He had promised to do something about that. Maybe a divorce or something, but he just did not. Nevertheless, she could manipulate him—if she felt like it.
