Chapter 2: Strangers From the Mists

About two days had passed since the king had mysteriously vanished in the middle of nowhere. People were frantic in their thoughts of where he had gone… was he dead? Kidnaped? Held ransom? It was bringing up panic and caused Merida to stand in as Queen since her mother was an absolute wreck at the l\disappearance of her husband. Merida had called up her friends and husband to go out on a hunting get together for old time fun, but the hunting had abruptly ceased with a loud crack of lightning. She had stepped over to Niall Dingwall, her husband after seeing his startled face glancing skywards. She had been about to ask him just what had him looking like a moron when his hand flew in the air, finger pointing up to the specs floating down from high above. His eyes were large, as though just sighting the most bizarre thing in the entire world.

" What in the world?..." Merida whispered out while squinting her eyes curiously.

" Flying.. horses? " Collin Macintosh mumbled in amazement at the horses falling from the sky.

" Don't Forget the Fairies! " Terrance Macguffin offered excitedly, still speaking faster than most could hope to understand.

Poor Niall was still utterly silent… speechless it seemed as they small group of four silently went closer. With each step, the air weighed heavier upon their shoulders, showing the amount of ancient power and magic swirling and dancing around the area. Once getting close enough, Merida held up her hand which held her bow to stop the others as well. They were now closer enough, standing just outside the slight glowing barrier as they took note of the two girls… and.. two horses curiously. The floating objects moved closer to the ground as though delicate hands lowered them further away from the heavens.

Once close enough to the ground, the light faded, letting the bodies drop suddenly the last few feet to land hard against the ground. The horses, being the first to recover moved and stood, nuzzling into their owners in hopes of waking them to no avail. The black stallion hoofed at the ground and snorted, seeming to speak with the mare standing beside him. At seeing the odd objects on the horses, the group looked to the two girls while approaching finally once the horses took note of them and stepped back. Merida was quite intrigued by the strange apparel of these two strangers and it showed in her swirling blue eyes, her red hair framing and falling around her face as she reached out to feel Aly's hair, amazed by the two tone appearance. As Merida inspected the blonde… girl, Collin managed to find the camera, turning it around before dropping it as it flashed while taking a picture. It was enough to startle them to step back.

It had been about that time, that one had woken, looking and speaking for but a short moment before once more slipping from the waking world. It had then been decided to carry the two females back to the castle and talk with them once they woke. Using the two strange horses to carry the girls, the troop being lead by Merida and her horse, Angus. The ride to the castle was very quiet, each individual deep in thought over the events that had recently taken place… here the King vanishes… and two strange girls just fall to them… perhaps it was all connected?

With these pressing thoughts, they made it back to the castle and hopped from the horses, pulling off the girls and carrying them inside after putting the horses up to have some food, which was happily gobbled up by the two new horses as well in happiness. With both girls being brought inside, a trio of eyes moved, peeking around banisters and corners, following after the adults out of curiosity and in hopes of finding new pranking victims. Up the stairs and down a few winding hallways and down four door and finally… to the left was the room. The girls were carried inside and placed upon the two beds settled along one side of the room. A fur lay in the middle of the room on the floor in front of a fireplace which was quickly lit to bring in extra warmth. Afterwards, blankets were pulled over the two unconscious figures and everyone filed out of the room to give them peace and quiet.

It would be a couple hours before Callie finally stirred once more. As she sat up and placed a hand against her throbbing head, she blinked and looked around the room, the evening sun casting various shadows along the stoned walls and bringing a shiver along her spine. She glanced down to the bed beside her own to see Alyce out cold, her head turned to the side. She reached out to smooth her hair back, making sure there was no fever before she wobbly pushed herself up to her feet. As her green eyes scanned the room, she found the door and made her way out of it to stand within the long corridor. She moved after that, peeking down a few hallways and even inside a few rooms where the doors had been left open. She was confused though at the very… primitive feel to it all.. like she had taken a trip to the past, which could not simply be possible.

As she turned another corner, she found a flight of stairs winding down into a larger room with tables and benches and… voices? Her brows lifted slightly as she moved, taking careful steps downwards in order to not trip from how steep they were. As she breeched the landing at the bottom of the stairs, she heard the speaking halt and felt eyes upon her frame with questioning gazes. She tensed a bit, her head tilting as she glanced to the side to see a curly red-haired woman in a blue-green dress approaching slowly, smile upon her face. It was then Callie glanced to the large fellow to Merida's right with an almost timid feel to him.. even if he was large and bulky with his eyes and hair. On the woman's left stood a man with spiked up blonde hair and blue eyes… Callie could easily tell he was with the red head, and that left the last man with black long hair and a more slender physique to himself.

Being how observant as Callie was, she could tell the people before her were in their twenties, and seemed more curious about her, which did a little to help her calm down a bit and offered a hesitant smile back in return. Her hands though moved, twisting within the hem of her soft red shirt showing her nerves easily to the gathered occupants. She was trying to think of the best thing to say…. something to break the silence that was almost deafening to her ears. Finally, her eyes shifted over the gathered people before she nodded her head politely in greeting, her tongue flicking out to moisten her lips as she swallowed the large lump within her throat before taking in a large breath. After holding the breath for a short time, she exhaled gently, feeling more in control.

" Uh… hello…. my name is Callie… and… you are? " She shifted upon her feet lightly.

" Queen Merida and this fellow is Niall, my husband. " Merida nodded, her smile never faltering.

" Collin Macintosh mi'lady " He spoke, somehow managing to kiss the back of her hand softly.

" Macguffin… Terrance Macguffin" He said it so fast, Callie blinked before nodding.

" Well.. then it's … uh.. nice to meet you all… but.. where am I? "

It was then that the conversation became quite confusing to one Callie. Here she was.. told by Merida that she was in old time Scotland…. The longer Merida spoke and the more she explained everything and the time frame, the larger Callie's eyes became. She was floored…. stunned even as Merida finally finished her words to watch Callie expectantly. Callie then found herself asked where she had come from… and how they had watched her float down from the skies with her friends and horses. Callie was quiet, thinking carefully before she spoke. Eventually she answered, telling them both Alyce and herself had come from the future, since they had been visiting the standing stones which had brought them here. She went on to explain how they were in a band but enjoyed learning of the culture that was a large part of their heritage. Even she could tell how shocked they all were… about as much as she was upon finding out where they had been brought too. After she finished, she took note of the silence before she heard a familiar voice nearby.

" Callie! What the hell did we take? I am still hallucinating !"

" A.. Aly! "

Callie moved from where she had been standing to run to her best friend and sister, pulling her into a hug. She once more checked the forehead for fever before nodding in satisfaction. She looked up, meeting the violet eyes with a look that let Alyce know something was VERY wrong. Callie chewed her lower lip for a moment in deep thought on how to break the news to Alyce….. afterall, Aly could be over dramatic when it came to situations like this. Finally, she straightened herself up a bit, her hands braced and settled upon her friend's shoulder as though to steady them both from what was about to leave her lips. She was not disappointed from the reaction.

" Aly…. unless you can get high and hallucinate from soda….. then we took nothing to cause this…. Actually…. remember the stones glowing and the sand ? Well it seems it… brought us quite a good distance into the past…. which is… why we are here in almost medieval times…"

" WHAT?! You have GOT to be KIDDING ME! WE HAVE A SHOW TO DO AND YOU TELL ME IN OUR DELUSIONAL MINDS WE WERE BROUGHT HERE? I HAVE TO CALL OUR BAND MATES! Maybe they can drop down a role… or… ladder….. TOW TRUCK OR SOMETHING! "

Aly flailed around and began digging through her pockets frantically like a dingbat out of hell. Merida, Niall, Collin, and Terrance watched with large eyes, almost startled by such an outburst…. and… what was a tow truck? Callie just heaved a sigh and shook her head, crossing her arms as she watched the eccentric Aly find her phone and begin to dial out while setting it to her ear, holding her breath while listening. With a loud cry of anguish and over exaggerated motions, Aly soon spun in a circle to fall to land upon her knees dramatically, holding up her phone as though it were the cursed object of doom and gloom. She looked to Callie with watery eyes, even though knowing Callie was immune to such looks.

" C… Callie.. it's simply.. TERRIBLE! There is no service…. I got nothing.. no dial tone… no answering machine…. just.. static silence….." It was then Callie laughed.

" Well I already knew this Aly… we are in the past before phones and towers were even thought of… we are stuck here I am afraid until we find out why we are here to begin with…..only then will we be able to return back to our own time. "

Aly slowly nodded, looking as though half the souls within her body took flight for a new life elsewhere. Callie stepped forwards and helped her stand, dusting her off and wiping the tears from her uncertain eyes. As the two spoke gently, Merida tilted her head and chuckled slightly to herself. She had to admit…. the two strangers… no, Callie and Alyce were brought by the mists of time… and only it would return once it was time. She smiled even brighter as she noticed the bright flush spreading over Macintosh's face as he watched. She felt… things would turn out just fine in the end and that included finding her father, the rightful King till he pulled from the position. For now though, she felt like they would have a lot of questions to answer to help their guests stay as comfortable as possible…. while learning of the future as well in return ! She looked forwards to the days to come, a spark igniting within her making her feel excited.
