Demigods Vs Aliens

Chapter 2 – SHUT UP SAM!

"You have got to be kidding me!"

I groaned as the overactive, hyper and quite frankly annoying voice seeped through my consciousness and pulled me back into the land of the living. Don't ask me how, but I could almost sense I was on a freeway. The familiar sound of rushing cars was almost comforting and for a minute I thought I was still tucked into my cosy little bed in my mom's apartment.

Then I realised that my mom's voice was never that excited… about anything. She had more sense than that.

Dimly, as if far in the distance, I could hear snatches of conversation in unfamiliar voices.
" – Shut up guys, I think –"
" – Oh, darn… my espresso!-"
"- Guys, seriously, I'm pretty sure he's-"
" –We are NOT stopping for another coffee, Sam.-"
"GUYS! FELLOW ALIEN IS WAKING UP! FOCUS!" I immediately recognised this as the voice of my to-be sister, although considering she knocked me out… I was wondering what sort of relationship that was going to be.
"Oh, right. Shut up Sam."
"I resent that!" Ah… There's that hyperactive voice again…

As I blinked my eyes open I became aware of two things; I was wedged between a boy wearing a black shirt (who had, judging by the state of his shorts, recently had a bit of an espresso accident) and the door of a pickup truck that was really much too small for its four passengers. Mr. Blondie (from my last experience) was sharing the driver's seat with my new relative. She was peering at me anxiously, and I felt a surge of hope for our currently non-existent sibling bond.

"Hey, welcome back to the land of the living," My sister (?) kept her eyes on mine as she spoke and I couldn't help but find her comment kind of ironic considering I had actually been to the land of the dead before. "Four hit you pretty hard… We weren't sure you would wake up at all." My sister laughed nervously even as confusion blossomed within me.

Who in Hades' name was Four?

My confusion must've shown because my sis was quick to speak again, "Oh right… I'm Six, and this," she said pointing to Mr Blondie, "This is Four."
Sam pouted, "What about me? It isn't fair!"(1)
"Sam!"
"I know, I know. Shut up."

Anyway…

Six glanced at me nervously out of the corner of her eye, "So… What, uh, what number are you?"

Whoa, back up. WHAT?

The other three passengers of the car stared at me, clearly anticipating my answer. I, having no idea what they were talking about, went with my gut.

"I am Numero Uno!" I said in my best Spanish accent, which in reality was closer to a mangled mix of Jamaican and Russian. The result was instantaneous.

"WHAT? How? But -" my sister looked frantic and a tear trickled from her eye.
" – can't be possible! How could – " I thought I was going to get another punch from Mr Blond- Four who was giving me a glare that would make even the Minotaur cry. Not me, of course, but it was still scary.
"DUDE! So Cool! What did –"

Ok, backpedal, BACKPEDAL! My mind struggled to focus as I came to terms with the fact that maybe that hadn't been the best thing to say. Stupid, impulsive ADHD…

"What? I was just kidding with you," I chuckled nervously, "I'm not numero- I mean- number One." The other three just stared back at me, disbelieving. Apparently Annabeth was right. I can't lie to save my life… I should really remember that next time.

My sister looked at me, deadpanned, "You really have no idea what we're talking about, do you?"

No, you evil, annoying kidnapping sister! I smiled easily, "No, not really. Now if you'd just like to stop the car, let me out and I'll just be on my way."

Four looked at me sceptically, "In the middle of the desert?"
I suddenly became aware of the dusty dunes we were rushing past, but shrugged, "That's not a problem."
Four raised an eyebrow. Sam just stared at me.

"It doesn't matter anyway, we can't let you go." Four remarked, "You have a legacy, you must be one of us…"

Ok, now I'm officially confused… Legacy?

"You know," said Sam, "He might have amnesia,"

Six bit her lip, "Maybe the Mogs got to him… Goodness knows I wish I could forget some of the stuff they did to me…" She turned to face me, "Maybe you couldn't handle it."

If I have amnesia again, SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE. Permanently.

"Wait," I said, "Back up. Who," or what "Are you guys?" Six opened her mouth to reply but Four cut her off.
"We're from Lorien, another planet not that far from this one." He glanced at me before focusing back on the road ahead, "We saw you in San Francisco with your enhanced strength and knew you must be one of us. We didn't know for sure, though, until you used your legacy."
"Legacy?"
Six shifted uncomfortably, "Yeah, your hydrokinesis was incredibly powerful. We've all got Legacies, or powers that allow us to do different stuff. For example, Four can talk to animals and," She paused for a moment, "And I can turn invisible."

I frowned. Something definitely didn't seem right… other than the fact that I was driving along an unknown freeway with people who thought they were from another-Zeus forsaken-planet. Why do I always attract the weird ones? "But you've got two Legacies don't you?" I said to Six, "You can control water too." I looked over at Four, "How many Legacies do you guys get?" I was still feeling rather sore from Frank's 'I can be everything' revelation… How powerful were these aliens?

Then again, I suppose being able to talk to animals wasn't something for me to be too jealous of, it's not exactly up there on the list of 'awesome powers of mass destruction'. I almost wish I couldn't talk to Blackjack and listening to fish just gets plain annoying.

Six's voice broke me out of my reverie. "We can explain all that when we stop, and we can show you the chest." Four stiffened in the corner of my eye, while Six continued, "What we really want to find out about is you. You came out of nowhere… we don't even know your name." You don't need to spend a long time around demigods with dark pasts to know when someone is trying to avoid a question but I let it slide for the moment. They didn't even know who I was so I couldn't blame them if they didn't want to talk attack strategies with me.

For the second time I could feel all eyes in the car on me, "My name is Percy. I'm from Manhattan, New York and I enjoy long strolls along the beach," I smiled, "Anything else?"
Four looked at me sceptically, "Why were you in San Francisco?"
"I was visiting family."
"What family?"
"Distant cousins. I just found out they existed a few months ago."
"Where are your parents?"
"My… Mom's back in New York."
"Where's your Dad?"
"…Busy."
"Too busy to look after you?"
"…Well – "

Sam broke into the little interrogation, "Guys! Shut up!" He looked at Four reproachfully, "Let's all just be civil."

We all glared. Sam shut up.

Six turned to me, "Percy. Do you have a chest of any kind? Is there an adult that looks out for you?" Six looked kind of confused, "It might not be your parent, but there's got to be someone…" she was searching my face for something, maybe recognition, and I wished I could give her answers.

"Uh… no." well, not unless you count the 12 Olympian gods who have been watching my life like a TV show since I was twelve… Speaking of the gods… WHERE THE HADES ARE THEY?

Six started to argue with Four as I reached deep into my pocket. Inside was a phone which would be incredibly handy but would not have reception (so no scary monster attacks!). It was a combined present from Annabeth and Tyson, with the help of Leo, and inside, where the battery should have been was one drachma so I could call for 'heavily armed friends'. Obviously, I couldn't use it now but it was still nice to know Annabeth was only an IM message away.

"Who's Annabeth?" I hadn't realised I'd said her name out loud. The silence was almost deafening, broken only by the steady hum of cars passing by.
"She's my, uh, Girlfriend… I should probably call her…" I suddenly felt guilty, she'd already lost me once, and there was no knowing how long I had been asleep. She could already have been worrying.
"NO!" the response was immediate and almost terrifying because suddenly the three argumentative teens were gone. Six and Four's faces had turned hard and their eyes cold. Four's gaze kept flicking to the rear view mirror and somehow I knew he wasn't looking at the car behind him. Sam's eyes had become frantic and his shoulders were shaking slightly from the obvious rush of adrenalin running through his system. What was this trio running from?

The tense silence continued as Four turned off the Freeway and onto a smaller road. I figured he was probably looking for a motel because even though I hadn't noticed it with all the drama in the car, the Sun was sitting dangerously low on the horizon.

Eventually, about twenty minutes later, My sist- Six broke the silence, saying "Look, I'm sorry Percy but you can't ring your girlfriend. Or really anyone you knew before today." Six paused, "You're one of us. You're from Lorien… An alien." She looked at me sadly, "And Earth needs us. The Humans need us… If you want your girlfriend to survive you need to come with us."
I looked at her, completely disbelieving, "Why?"
"There are those that want to destroy this planet," replied Four, "The Mogadorians. They want to kill us too. They'll come looking for you if you go back to your old life," Because that's not dangerous enough already, "And they'll use your girlfriend against you." Four looked at me, "You want to save Annabeth? Then you're coming with us. To fight."

Four pulled up outside a dingy motel with a flickering sign and peeling paint. "Let's go inside." He said, "We can show Percy my chest… And see what other legacies he's developed."

I gulped. Here I go. I've done it again .I think I blame the Fates… couldn't they pick on someone else for once?

Hello, AliCloud here. Contrary to the popular belief (StroodleMuffin) above I am NOT Slap-happy and anything I dish out to others is both completely necessary and highly enjoyable (For me). StroodleMuffin gives as good as he gets and deserves at least half a dozen mental (If not physical) MONUMENTAL SLAPS.

Anyway…

I love that add 'What about me! It isn't fair I've had enough now, I want my share!'

Sorry...

Please Review if you like this story, mostly because it helps decide what's going to happen next. We had a rather sad amount of feedback last chapter and it has resulted in our long absence. Basically, if you want this updated, TELL US because otherwise it feels like we're writing to a wall.

Thankyou also to all the people that did review the last chapter and sorry for the wait.

On another note entirely, this is my excuse for not updating THE LIES WE BELIEVED. This idea has been swirling around in my head for the last month or so. The sooner I write it all down and get it out of my system, the sooner you get another update for my other story.

FLAMES WILL BE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY AND HARSHLY. COWARDS WILL BE SHOT.

Thank you, and I hope you have a happy holidays! = )
