"Enemies Around Every Corner"
A/N: This chapter has been officially fixed! I will be cutting out unnecessary side stories such as the Jaune arc. I absolutely hate JNRP with a passion so if there is any mention of them I have not gotten around to fixing that chapter.
After midnight I crawled out the window and dropped to the ground, I must not have been as silent as I thought because Ruby dropped after me. "Where are you going?" she asked rushing to catch me, "I'm tracking a lead on your dust thief," I said quickening my pace to a jog, "I would prefer it if Hawk didn't know what I was doing." I said before vanishing in a sudden flash of lighting.
When I stopped running I was downtown. "You're not fast enough." said Ruby walking up behind me, she now had her scythe and casual outfit. I couldn't believe she kept up with me but I should have expected it, "You're coming then?" I asked, playing off a sigh when I was really relieved.
Down the street Torchwick was walking out of a dust shop with his black dressed lackeys in toe. We nodded to each other and rushed in front of them, stopping a few feet away from Torchwick.
"You again? And with a new partner no less well good for you." he said waving his henchmen forward, "So henchmen or big bad?" I asked. "Torchwick!"
Ruby ran passed the other men and went straight for him. I pulled out my swords and sighed as I swiped the left leg of the guy closest to me then swiped away their guns in one swift movement. my swords started pulsing with electricity and I put my swords together into a bow which was enough to send the remaining idiots running down the street.
I looked over at Ruby who was locked in a fight with Torchwick, "Switch!" I yelled turning and leaping forward as Ruby sped out of the way then in one swing Torchwick went sprawling to the ground. The police showed up surrounding the now knocked out Roman Torchwick, "Well that was easy." I exhaled.
The police put him in the back of a squad car and drove off into the night, the whole thing had only taken a few minutes, it was so boring. "why do you use a bow?" Ruby asked on the way back to Beacon. "A bow is quieter than a gun." I answered.
When we got back to Beacon and climbed in the window I said goodnight to Ruby and climbed out of sight. The next morning, I sat next to Hawk who was sitting with Ruby and Weiss, across from Blake and Yang, reading the paper.
"Huntsman and Huntress arrest dust thief Roman Torchwick" was the headline of the paper with a picture of Ruby and I on the front. "So, you two were busy last night." said Hawk removing his helmet, I shot him a glare but he said "we have to take them off sometime and it's not like anyone would know us so isn't it bit ridiculous?" he rolled his eyes.
"Do what you want, I don't care, just don't go blabby my Identity to everyone, Cole." I said letting a grin spread across my face. "Your name is Cole?" asked Yang, looking confused, "Cole Hawk Carmine yeah." said hawk taking a sip of coffee.
I was just glad we were off the subject of my night escapades "So what do we have today?" Asked Cole. "Classes," I said, "And not the fun kind." history was first.
After a long lecture, on the history of the faunus war, we went to our next class with professor port. Weiss volunteered to fight against a captured grim halfway through class and defeated it, even though Ruby kept distracting her, after that I volunteered to fight the next match. I walked down to the floor as cage opened revealing an alpha Beowolf.
I wasn't expecting an alpha but I pulled out my swords and waited, it rushed forward taking a large swipe with its right claw. The claw almost impacted but I vanished in blue hot lightning burning the Grimm's hand off then appearing behind it. I stabbed my blades through sending a surge through its body as it shook violently and disappeared, I sheathed my swords and walked back to my seat.
The whole class was aw struck at what just happened, even Prof. Port was shocked. "You. . . how did you. . . that fast?" Stuttered prof. Port after I sat down. The class ended and Weiss ran off with Ruby on her tail, "you guys go ahead I'll catch up." I said running after them.
I caught them just in time to hear Weiss finish her complaining with "Ozpin made a mistake!" I tried to walk up to Ruby but Ozpin walked past me and said "let me handle this," I took him at his words and walked away knowing my interference in this matter was not needed.
Time passed fast after that day and soon we were eating lunch and watching a punk named Cardin Winchester pulling a faunus girl's ears. "I'll be right back." I said getting to my feet and walking toward Cardin. I proceeded to lay my hand, gently, on his shoulder.
"Step away from Velvet or I'll make your time at this school hell on earth for you." I whispered in his ear. "What, you think a suit of armor makes you tough?" I reached and grabbed his arm and twisted it in a way it was not supposed to "No, my armor has nothing to do with it, now let Velvet go or the next one will be worst." I sent a surge of electricity through his body but not enough to do any real damage.
"Ok we'll leave!" he sped out of the room. "Thanks, but that was a bit much." said Velvet turning to me, "He needed to know he can be dethroned and that he is not untouchable." I said turning in the direction of Cole who shook his head.
A week passed since that time and things continued as normal until one weekend. I was walking in town, because I had some free time, and overheard a faunus talking about a Schnee company train that was transporting a large amount of dust that was going to be hit by someone named "Adam" and some white fang members after it leaves vale tonight.
I rushed back to the school and asked where Weiss was, Yang told me she was in the library so I got down there as fast as I could. "Weiss!" I halted in front of her "What!?" she said jumping.
"One of your family's trains is going to be attacked by the white fang tonight when it leaves Vale." I said catching my breath. "What, how do you know that?" she inquired, cocking an eyebrow. "I heard a few faunus talking about it when I was in town." I explained.
"Ok well I am going to have to inform the authorities and possibly my sister if I can get in contact with her." Weiss rested her chin in her fist. "no, you can't, a large amount of guards would be sent to protect the train, the White Fang isn't stupid they wouldn't show. . . we have to handle this ourselves." I said nodding.
"Are you suicidal?" Weiss gawked at me, "Think about it, if it's just us we can stow away onto the train ourselves and catch them when they attack." I explained slowly. "Fine, but if we do this we need the whole team." She started.
"No, if they see six hunters they would be assume there would be more inside and not attack." I said, frustrated. "Why do we have to stow away? I can just tell them to let me on, it is my train after all?" she rolled her eyes.
"No, likely there is an informant on board and would warn this Adam person, they would be waiting for us and maybe find a way to take us out."
"ok let's grab our gear and move." Weiss relented, "Way ahead of you." I gave Weiss her rapier. "How did you get into my locker?" she questioned and flared her nostrils. "Oh, I hacked into the security cameras awhile back and watched every student set their combinations." I stated matter-of-factly. We set off for the train station.
We waited for the guards to change shifts then I grabbed Weiss and flashed us onto a crate on the train. "Alright let's get inside a car." I said quietly, we snuck over and got inside a car full of dust crates. "These cars are sound proof, bullet proof, and water proof, we are safe to talk as loud as we like." Weiss said, nodding.
We took a seat and began waiting "So why were you really so eager for it to just be the two of us?" said Weiss trying to hide a smile. "The real reason? Fine, I wanted it to just be you but I figured you might need backup, if the white fang knew a Schnee was guarding a train of dust it will send a clear message that you're not to be fucked with." I said, shifting a little in my armor. "Wow you had that prepared, ok well you're right, even though I am exceptional you are on a level above the whole team except for maybe Cole, by the way what is your name?" she inquired. "Jacob, Jacob Stone Kenway, Cole is my cousin." I start to think about how much we have in common with Ruby and Yang.
"I'm 16, use a blade, am very fast, Cole and yang are both 17, use blunt weapon that have explosive power and when they get mad they burn." I trailed off. "Burn?" Weiss questioned, "Yeah, when Cole becomes angry, as rare as it is, I call him phoenix because he is engulfed in flame."
His semblance is he can control fire, but when he means business he becomes phoenix. When he is in this phoenix mode his body and armor became engulfed in fire his helmet takes the shape of a phoenix head, he has fire wings, and the cherry on top is his mace becomes a beam cannon that could kill anything it hits." I say, with a hint of jealousy in my voice.
"Ruby and I both have a lot to live up to." I sigh, "You like her, don't you?" Weiss asked. "What!?" I blurt out, "You know what I mean." She rolls her eyes at me again. "Yeah, I do but I could never. . . I can't. . . I have more important things to. . ." I couldn't think of anything to say which confirmed Weiss's theory. We talked so long the train was moving and we didn't even realize it.
We peaked outside the car just in time to see twelve White Fang members drop onto the train with one in black with red hair intimidating a worker, he raised his sword and brought it down. I flashed in front of them as fast as I could bringing up my swords and blocking the man's attack, "Adam I take it?" I laughed slightly. "Who are you?" Adam asked withdrawing his sword, "The hunter who is going to end you." I ready myself for the long haul.
"Wait, you were on that train that Blake and I hit. You didn't fight us, instead you just got the crew members to safety." He almost growled. "Yeah, Blake and I are on a team now and I guess you can thank me for letting your girlfriend get away." I shrugged my shoulders as we circled each other. "So, you know where Blake is now then. . . Tell me and you can walk away now." He pointed his sword.
"Aw, you think I'm just going to sell out my friend in exchange for my life? Well I would but you are in no position to kill me." Laughed out the last part. "What do you mean?" he seemed genuinely perplexed at my statement. Suddenly, a large wall of ice hit the other white fang members and sent them crashing into the train car we were hiding in trapping them. at the same moment as the others were trapped I sprung at Adam but he was fast enough to pull his sword up and blocked my blow.
It was three minutes of strikes and counter strikes with neither of us landing any hit, so I made a decision that would probably hurt a lot. I flashed behind Adam, blinding him temporarily, and yelled to Weiss "Freeze us!"
"What, are you insane?" both her eyebrows went as far up as they could be. "I can't hold him for long, just do it!" She looked apprehensive but nodded and stabbed her rapier into the train sending ice up our bodies then complete nothing.
