Unshackled

i. She swallows my ghosts with her comfort.

It wasn't uncommon for Cedric to have nightmares. It wasn't uncommon for him to wake up, in the dead of night, in a cold sweat, shaking with fright. He hated feeling so weak, so fragile. He hated that he always woke her up, when he'd yell out, bolting upright in a staggering panic.

When he would wake, she would wake as well. She would pull him back against the pillow. She would snake her arms around his waist. "It's okay darling," she would whisper, stroking his face. She would whisper, soothing him. She would hold him tight and kiss him.

He hated that she was always taking care of him, that he had to rely on her, but he knew he never would have survived without her.

ii. She swallows my darkness with her light.

Susan was enchanting, vibrant. He had been surprised, when he had awoken in the hospital wing at Hogwarts, with the redhead by his side. She had held his hand and promised that everything would be alright. He had believed her.

Just seeing Susan's face brightened his day, even then, after all the time they spent together. She filled the emptiness, made him whole. It was only with her that he felt truly alive.

ii. She gives me my freedom with her love.

She had unlocked the shackles, freeing him of the chains. She had released him from the burden of his memories, his pain. Susan loved passionately, with all of her heart. And in her love, Cedric found his freedom. He found another reason to live.
