Me: Man is this short! (er) Please tell me what you think of it, and if I got April and Casey out of character.

"You TOOK IN A KID?!"

Casey looked at the girl, then at April, then at the girl again, his eyes as wide as his motorcycle's wheels. It was 10pm back at the apartment, and after a day working his butt off, Casey was so not in the mood to deal with this.

"I couldn't just leave her there with that horrible woman!" April said defensively, walking through the doorway.

"But adopting her? Couldn't you have just left her at an orphanage or something!?"

"I-"

That was actually a good question, why didn't she? April knew the girl would be taken care of in a children's home. "B-because!"

Casey shook his head, "April, can we really take care of a little girl? We're barely making it through as it is!"

"We can-we need to try, Casey, she doesn't have anyone else,"

Casey shook his head, massaging it as if he had a headache.

The girl turned to April, "If its really that much of a trouble, I can manage on my own,"

Casey and April looked at her in surprise, but the girl met neither of their gazes.

"I'll be fine," she said again, flatly.

Casey seemed to deflate and sighed as April looked at him meaningfully.

"Fine! We'll take her," He turned to the girl, "We'll take you, alright kid?"

Her impassive face seemed to flicker for a moment, then she regained her composure "Thank you for your kindness"

Casey smiled a little, 'Thank you for your kindness,' as if she was some stiff boarding-school student speaking to a principal. This kid was going to have to loosen up a little if they were going to live under the same roof.

He walked to a door on the right and opened it, "You can stay here, it ain't much, but we can work on that tomorrow,"

"Thank you,"

The little girl hesitantly stepped into the house and seemed to look around for... something, they didn't know what. She shook her head frustratingly, as if reminding herself of an obvious fact. Then she trotted to Casey and into the next room, pulling the door away from Casey's grasp, which she closed at his face.

The couple looked at each other, confused. Suddenly the door opened and the girl's head popped up from the crack.

"My name is Ina," she said, then closed the door at their faces...again.

April scratched her head, "Ina, huh? Never heard that name before,"

"She didn't tell you her name?"

"No, never asked,"

Casey sighed, running his hand in his hair, "I have a feeling I'm gonna regret this,"
