"My little princess and I were always together. I was the best dad or at least I like to think so. I held her when she cried, or when she was sad. I patched her up when she got hurt and I always made sure she had a smile on her face. When she was five I left for the hunting trip, she begged me not to go but we needed food so I had to. I promised her I was going to come back. Never in a million years did I ever think that was going to be the last time I ever held her in my arms and told her I loved her."
He came over and sat back down in the loveseat and put his head back in his hands. "The reason why I'm so upset today is because today is my baby girl's birthday." I was in complete and utter shock. Not because of his story but because I've heard it before from my Great Great, grandma. Emmett wasn't just my vampire big brother, he was my great grandfather. Note to self when you get home call Gran and wish her a happy birthday.
Bella's POV
I stood up from the floor and gave Emmett the biggest hug I have ever given him. When we pulled apart he smiled at me.
"Thanks I needed that. I'm sorry if I scared you at all with my story." He said
"It's okay. So what's your baby girl's name?" I asked Please say Grans. Please say Grans I thought. You know cuz I could be wrong.
"Her name was Marie Annabelle McCarty. She went by Annie, Anna or anything else someone thought was cute and she was the cutest little girl ever but I'm just being a father." He said with a laugh. I wanted so badly to tell him everything. But for some reason I felt like I had to talk to Gran first. When I looked at the clock above the fireplace it said it was 10:18. I knew what I wanted to do today and I also knew that if I had any chance of pulling this off I was going to need to get home and make a phone call.
"Hey Gr-Emmett I'm really sorry but I have to get home and call my Gran." I told him. He just smile and laughed.
"Man I still can't be leave your whole family are vampires." He said getting up and walking me to the door. "Hey Bells, thanks for listening. It means a lot." He said.
"It's no problem." We hugged again then I got into my truck and then left. When I got home I went up to my room to change into something a little more comfy. When I was done I went downstairs to the kitchen to call Gran. It's a good thing I know where to find her. I called the number I knew so well. It rang 2 times before someone picked up.
"McCarty residence." Said a beautiful voice, I've heard my whole life. I couldn't help the smile that was on my face.
"Hi Grandma." I said.
"Is that my great, great granddaughter? " My Grandma Dana asked.
"Yeah it's me. Um Grandma is Gran there?" I asked.
"Yes honey she is but she went out hunting, but she should be back soon." She said. I was about to say something but the back door burst open and in came a Screaming Alice followed by Edward and Rosalie.
"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" Alice screamed.
"Alice calm down." Edward said.
"Bella honey are you okay? What happen?" Grandma asked me.
"I'm fine Grandma it's just the Cullen's. Hey can you do me a big favor? I need all of you on the next plain to Forks as soon as possible. I got the best birthday gift for Gran and you all have to be here. Please Grandma, pleeaasse." I said pleading with her.
"Okay grandbaby. We'll be there. I'll text you when we land." She said. I couldn't help the giggle that left me. "What is it that you find so funny young lady?" She asked.
"I'm sorry grandma but hearing you say that you'll text me is funny." I said. I turned to see Alice, Edward and Rosalie walk into the family room.
"Ha, Ha very funny." She said with a laugh of her own. I was about to make fun of her age when the front door opened.
"Bella?!" Dad yelled.
"Kitchen!" I yelled. A moment later Dad walked in to see that I was on the phone.
"Who's on the phone?" He asked.
"Grandma." I said. He held his hand out for the phone. "Grandma dad wants to talk to you so remember first flight out. Oh and before I forget I need you all to ware something casual nice and please tell Gran to bring her favorite blue dress you know the one." I told her.
"Don't worry I've got this. I'll see you soon my great great grandbaby. I love you." She said.
"I love you too grandma. Bye." I said.
"Bye sweetie." She said. I handed the phone over to Charlie and walked into the family room to find Edward and Alice on the couch and Rosalie in Charlie's chair. They looked a little nevus.
"Bella is- is it true? That Emmett is your grandfather?" She asked. I smiled at her.
"Yep." I said popping the p. "Emmett is my granddad." I said.
"What about Granddad?" Dad asked walking into the room. I couldn't help it I was just so happy. So I ran to him.
"I found him. Dad I found Granddad." I said happily.
"What that's awesome let's go get him where is he?" He said while grabbing the car keys out of his pocket.
"At the Cullen's" I said. I saw the confusion on his face slowly turn into shock.
"No." He grasped.
"Yep." I said popping the p again. Rosalie got out of Charlie's chair.
"Here Charlie take a seat. "She said guiding him to his chair. It was a big shock for us, for the first time since Granddad left for his hunting trip our family was going to be whole again. I didn't know I was crying till Edward wiped my tears away.
"What's wrong love? I thought you'd be happy for finding your Granddad? I mean I know it's Emmett which kind of makes it weird. But you guys do look alike but why are you sad?" He asked. I looked over at dad and he held his arms open for me. I got up and climbed onto his lap and hugged him and cried. The weight of what I found out less than an hour ago was getting to me. How big this news was not just for me but for my whole family. We and when I say we I mean all the men of our family including dad have never stopped looking for him. We liked to joke around sometimes when it was a hard day like Christmas or his birthday and say we were Swiss cheese. We all had a piece of our hearts missing were Granddad was supposed to be. Everyone had memories of him and had stories to tell except for dad and I because we were born after he went missing. But then a thought popped into my head and I started to laugh. Edward, Alice and Rosalie looked at me like I had gone crazy. Dad knew why I was laughing and joined me.
"Um are you guys okay?" Rosalie asked a little worried. Dad and I looked at each other and yelled.
"No more Swiss cheese." I said at the same time that dad said.
"We can tell stories."
"What are you talking about?" Alice asked confused.
"We have a joke in our family, we say were Swiss cheese because we all have a place in our hearts that's missing because that's where Granddad supposed to be." Dad said.
"And we can finally share stories of him." I added.
"And Emmett's that missing piece?" Asked Rosalie. I nodded my head. I was about to say something when dad looked at me.
"Isabella? What did you mean when you said on the first flight out?" Dad asked me.
"Oh that's because everyone is coming over today. I thought why send Gran a birthday present when I could just give her the one thing she's wanted since she was 5." I said getting off his lap and started to clean the house.
"Mom's coming?" He asked.
"Yep" I said popping the p while I stacked the coasters on the coffee table.
"Mom's coming here? Right now?" He asked. Ugh.
"Yes dad Gran is coming along with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Drew, Uncle Kevin, Uncle Brandon, Aunt Brittany, Aunt Kayla, Aunt Nancy and Aunt Judy. Along with all of their husbands, wives and kids. The plain will be filled. So hop to." I said. I know I told Grandma to be on the first flight out but that was only because I forgot that Grandpa owned his own personal passenger plain. Yeah we have a big family and I love it. Dad got up from his chair and started to run around cleaning the house.
"I'm dead, so dead, she's going to kill me. Man I'm so grounded." He kept muttering to himself. Yeah you heard that right. He was going to be grounded if the house wasn't the way Gran liked it. I find it weird yet very amusing that my 37 year old father still gets grounded. Gran is one of those people that you don't want to make mad or she'll find a way to punish you, no madder how old you are. With dad it's taking away his fishing trips and beer while she's in town. With me she's take me shopping or makes me watch sports and test me on it. The woman can be devious. I guess she gets it from Granddad, because we all know how devious Emmett is when it comes to his pranks. I looked over at Edward, Alice and Rosalie.
"Can you guys help us clean up and if you could use your vampire skills it would be a great help. Gran always gets mad at dad when she comes over and the house isn't clean. I really don't want her getting mad on her birthday. Plus I need to calm dad down before he brakes something. Huh? I guess we know where he gets that from now." I said. The three of them ran around at vampire speed cleaning the house I walked over to dad who was taking books off of the bookshelf and dusting the shelf still in panic mode.
"Dad." I said trying to get his attention.
"I have to clean Bells not now." He said putting the books back.
"Dad!" I tried again. I got nothing from him so I had to do something I don't do very often.
"EMMETT!" I yelled that stopped him and the cleaning vampires for a moment. He looked at me for a moment with a shocked face. Yepp you guessed it right he was named after Granddad and I was named after Gran.
"You sounded like mom for a second. Bells I'm trying to clean here what do you need?" He asked me. I looked over at Edward.
"You guys got this?" I asked him.
"Of course love." He said smiling at me. Then he was off again. I grabbed dads hand and dragged him to the door.
"Come on dad let's go get some lunch." I told him.
"But the house." He asked he always freaks when Gran comes over. I just rolled my eyes.
"They got this plus they can do a better job than we can and do it faster. Now come on." I said grabbing our coats and my keys. We got in my truck and left for Port Angela's. When we got there I pulled up to the curb parking in front of the restaurant Edward took me to for our first date. I thought it cost a lot but it really didn't. We got out of the truck and walked inside. A young woman in her 20's with red hair and glasses showed us to our table. It was next to the window so we could people watch as we ate. She gave us our menu's and left. A minute later another girl came up to us. She was about my height with dark brown almost blast hair with blond highlights.
"Hello my names Megan and I'll be your server this afternoon what can I get you guys to drink?" She asked.
"Um I'll have a glass of water and a cup of coffee." Dad said then went back to looking at his menu.
"I'll have a coke please." I said giving her a kind smile.
"Not a problem I'll be right back." She said and walked away to get our drinks.
"She seems nice." Dad said.
"Yeah if she keeps it up I might have to give her a 20 dollar tip." I said with a laugh dad joined me. A moment later she came back with our drinks.
"Here you go one coke for you." She said handing me my coke.
"Water and coffee for you." She said handing dad his.
"Do guys know what you would like or would you like some more time?" She asked us.
"I'm good. Bells?" Dad asked me.
"I'll have the mushroom ravioli with extra sauce please." I said handing her my menu back. After she wrote it down she looked to dad.
"And for you sir?" She asked.
"I'll take the fettuccine alfredo with chilled chicken and extra sauce as well please." He said handing back his menu.
"I'll go ahead and get this in for you guys. Is there anything else I could get for you while you're waiting?" She asked us.
"No." we said shaking our heads.
"Okay." She said and walked off to put our order in.
"I can't believe Emmett is Granddad. I mean when they first moved to town I always thought he reminded me of Grandpa. I guess I should have made the connection sooner." Dad said sighing and looking out the window. I grabbed his hand that was resting one the table.
"Dad you didn't know, heck I didn't know. If he hadn't told me that story we would still be thinking that Granddad was gone from us forever. But that's not the case anymore we have him back. Everyone's going to be so happy when they find out. I mean can't you feel that space in your heart heal at all knowing that we have him back?" I asked him.
"Yeah I can. It's going to be nice to be able to share stories of him now." He said with a small smile.
"Yeah we don't have to listen and try to picture what life would have been like if he was in our lives as we grew up. And man I have some good ones. Heck I think Grandma might ground him for some of the things he's pulled. You and I both know Esme's punishments are nothing compared to Grandma's." I said laughing. That got dad smiling again.
"Dude he's SO in for it. We should have a camera ready to film it." He said laughing.
"If I know Alice like I do I'm sure she's already on it." I said. A moment later my cell phone went off telling me I had a text. I grabbed it from the table and opened it up.
"All done with the house and yes I'll have one ready. Can't pass this up." Alice.
"Thanks it means a lot that you guys helped us out today. Black mailing Granddad is going to be so much fun." Bella
"AWW You just called him Granddad. He's going to love it. Got to go get stuff ready for when your family gets here. It's going to be perfect." Alice
"I can't wait to see their faces and whenever you plan something it's always perfect. Oh can you please bring the camera I want that moment in a frame." Bella
"Sure see you later Bells, bye." Alice
"Bye." Bella
"Who are you texting?" Dad asked me as our food was being sat down on the table.
"Alice." I told him as I sat my phone back on the table.
"Enjoy." Megan said with a smile as she sat our food on the table and walked away. Dad and I dug into our meals as we talked about how I wanted to surprise everyone. It was around 2:30 by the time we got home from lunch. When I got out of the truck and walked up to the door I saw that it was already open. Dad came over with his gun pulled and grabbed me by the arm and pulled me behind him and slowly we entered the house.
