Journey to the Past
By LupineMoon
Bill and Fluer's wedding had been wonderful. Harry was happy that there was still something to be happy in this world. It was the Trio's last night at the Burrow, and Harry had wanted to be alone for a bit. He sat with the album of his parents that Hagrid had given him years ago, stared at the picture of his parents on their wedding day. They waved at him, grinning happily. Sirius kept making faces behind their backs. Harry laughed at his godfather's antics. Laughter would be scarce in the next year, if not longer. So Harry was determined to get as much fun in as possible before⦠But in order to begin his life's purpose, he first had to go back to Godric's Hollow. As much as Harry hated to admit it, he was terrified. Voldemort scared him certainly, but he was more scared of seeing his old home; he wasn't sure he was ready, or ever would be. But he had no choice.
Heart, don't fail me now!
Courage, don't desert me!
Don't turn back now that we're here
People always say
Life is full of choices
No one ever mentions fear!
Or how a road can seem so long
How the world can seem so vast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past
Harry had no real memories of his parents' house. He only had memories from the dementors of his parents' last moments. And those didn't really count since he did not consciously recall the events. He wondered what his house looked like. Had his mother taken hours painstakingly decorating? Had his father argued with his mother about putting up Quidditch-themed decorations in Harry's room? Had his mother planted a garden?
Somewhere down this road
I know someone's waiting
Years of dreams just can't be wrong
Arms will open wide
I'll be safe and wanted
Fin'lly home where I belong
Well, starting here, my life begins
Starting now, I'm learning fast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past
It was almost time to go. Ron and Hermione were in the twins' old room; no doubt catching up on some alone time; something that would be very scarce in the next months.
Tomorrow, the three of them would go to Godric's Hollow. Each moment brought him closer to when he would go back home for the first time in sixteen years. Harry felt like the cowardly lion form the Wizard of Oz.
Heart don't fail me now!
Courage don't desert me!
Home. Such a nice, warm word. Privet Drive had never been home. Yes, his aunt and uncle had taken him in and provided him with the blood protection, but that was all they had done. Nothing more. And they had certainly not been family. The Weasleys, Sirius, Remus, Ron and Hermione were more of a family than the Dursley's would ever be. And as much as Hogwarts or the Burrow felt like home to Harry, they would never measure up to Godric's Hollow.
Home, Love, Family
There was once a time
I must have had them too
Home, Love, Family
I will never be complete
Until I find you...

With Hermione and Ron by his side, Harry Apparated to Godcric's Hollow. He wasn't sure where to go after that; but he figured instinct would guide him. So, the trio began walking along the street in search of Harry's childhood home. Though Harry had not conscious awareness of where he was going, something told him they were almost there.
One step at a time,
One hope, then another
Who knows where this road may go
Back to who I was
On to find my future,
Things my heart still needs to know
Yes, let this be a sign!
Let this road be mine!
Let it lead me to my past
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
To bring me home...
At last!
At last!
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
yea...
Just up ahead, was his house; the trio walked slowly up to it, in awe. It was nothing spectacular; in fact it was completely destroyed, left for sixteen years. But finally, Harry was home.
