"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!"
Natasha walks out of the back room, and sees a guy on the ground. He is literally petting ever single puppy.
"Hi, welcome to PetWorld!" she says, words she has uttered a thousand times.
"I want them, I want them all," he says.
"Well, I mean, if you buy them all.."
"Don't have much money."
She watches him, and he's burying his face in their fur and letting them lick his face and petting them everywhere. She works at a pet shop and she doesn't love the animals that much.
"50 dollars to adopt one," she says.
"Nah. Gotta pay rent, gotta eat. Sure these things cost a lot for food 'n stuff, too."
But the man's eyes light up when he plays with the puppies, his face is of pure joy and exaltation.
Her breath catches in her throat. "I'll, uh, I'll buy you one." She's never done that before, but why not? She can put 50 of her dollars into the machine, no big deal.
"Wow, um, thanks. But I won't be able to buy it food or anything," he says.
"I can help. Um, I work here so things are discounted for me. I could buy you discounted pet food and you could pay me back."
It takes a little more arguing, but he eventually agrees. Natasha's not sure what's gotten into her. She doesn't know why she cares so much about getting this guy a puppy, but she knows she cares.
In between his grins he names the puppy—Lucky.
