Chapter 1: Murder, Murder, Murder

I woke up to the sound of the grandfather clock chiming a floor below me. In complete retaliation I pulled my covers over my head. The urge to sleep was too great; it was almost as if it were gravity pulling me.

I was reading a book about the Sir Isaac Newton and his contributions to the scientific world. However, I had read that book until it was two in the morning.

'Why is the scientific world so interesting?' I thought to myself as I gave a small pout.

There was a loud knock at my door that caught me off guard and it caused me to jump a little.

'No, anything but this,' I begged to myself as a small sigh escaped my mouth.

"Levy, are you awake?" a male voice asked on the other side of the closed door.

I stayed silent; hoping that the person on the other side of the door would go away, or better yet leave me alone.

I heard the footsteps walk away from my door and making their way down the hall.

'Thank goodness,' I thought.

My mind began to wander as I lay on the bed. I began to wonder about the light as the sun's rays entered my bed room and then it went to how the solar system worked. Eventually my attention went to the ceiling. It was nothing special really; it was a tall ceiling with wooden beams that were supporting the ceiling so it did not collapse on me.

I gave a large yawn and turned to my left side and pulled the covers over my shoulder, so that my head could be hardly seen, but my wild blue hair could be easily seen from the doorway.

I closed my eyes, as a small smile spread across my face. The small amount of light that was able to peak through the currents was slowly warming my room.

My breathing slowed and so did my heart beat and I was preparing for another sleep cycle when my bed room door abruptly opened.

I jumped, startled by the sudden noise. Causing me to sit up on the bed.

"Levy," A stern female voice called out from the door way.

I gave a sigh of relief, 'its Lucy'

Lucy was a daughter of a rich man named, Jude Heartfilia, who controlled many of the parts in Magnolia before he died and Lucy took over the business.

My blond friend was wearing her hair was in a bun that sat near the top of her head. As for her outfit, she was wearing a light purple dress that flattered her body, and finally she was wearing dark purples shoes that added a few inches to her height.

"Hi, Lu," I mumbled loud enough for Lucy to hear me

"Don't 'Hi Lu' me!" Lucy snapped, "I didn't come to see you to find you in bed,"

I yawned, Lucy stops by at least once a week and I suppose this was one of those days that she decided to stop by.

"I'm sorry Lu,' I began, "I was reading late last night,"

Lucy huffed.

"Lucy I really am"

"But you read until 2 o'clock in the morning!" Lucy complained

"Bu Lu-" I whined trying to explain how Isaac Newton captured my attention.

Lucy stopped me, "You know it's bad for your health to stay up late,"

"I know," I sighed.

Lucy has told me multiple times in the past about how little sleep I usually get because of my late night reading.

"Ever heard of Benjamin Franklin?" Lucy asked

"Yes," I said with a slight frown, not quite sure where Lucy was going with the conversation, "Who hasn't?"

"'Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,'" Lucy said quoting Benjamin Franklin.

I frowned, "There are two problems with that…" I began, "one, I'm a girl and second of all, the man had a thing with women,"

A small shutter went down my spine as dark thoughts surfaced.

Lucy raised an eyebrow, not completely convinced,

"Lu!" I whined loudly.

The blond gave me a stern frown and walked to the right to my window.

'I give up,'

Lucy stopped in front of the window and pulled the curtains, revealing a bright sun.

"Lu, let my eyes adjust first," I snapped at Lucy as I covered my eyes.

"That was your fault for staying up so late," Lucy reasoned.

I pouted.

"Have they adjusted?" Lucy asked.

I slowly took my hands off my face and blinked a few times, allowing my eyes to adjust to the bright light.

"Yes," I sighed.

"Now," Lucy breathed, "Get dressed, I need to show you something," Lucy said as she folded her arms over her chest.

"And that is?" I asked.

Lucy gave a sad smile.

"Is this a blind date?" I asked raising an eyebrow and folding my arms.

"maybe," Lucy teased.

"Lucy," I said getting frustrated.

"What?" Lucy shrugged, "a man has to take care of you,"

I sighed; I did not need a man to take care of me. I have done well on my own, but being in the year 1910. Women do not have the same rights as men. So many people, especially the men, often look at me strangely for doing my daily business without a man near me.

"I guess," I sighed

A small sweat drop appeared on the side of Lucy's head.

Lucy has tried multiple times in the past to find me a suitable husband for me. But all of them have failed miserably.

I gave a small nod, and then I turned my attention to my night stand, where it sat right next to my bed. On top of the night stand was my diary, a glass of water, and my red framed glasses.

I grabbed my glasses from the night stand and placed the frames on my face.

"So, I'm guessing you haven't heard," Lucy mentioned as she made her way towards my bed.

"Heard what?" I asked

Lucy gave a sad sigh, "I think you should see if for yourself.

I gave a small frown as Lucy went from the bed and back to the window.

I heard the window click open.

I watched curiously as Lucy opened my bedroom window.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Opening the window,"

My frown deepened a little more and I got up from the bed and made my way to the window with Lucy.

I stuck my head out the window.

The view outside of my window was normal in any standards. I lived near a busy street, so I can easily hear the recent rumors, the paper boys shouting 'extra extra', and fresh vegetables being sold. However, the normal busy street was hardly busy at all. There was hardly anyone out.

"What is going on?" I mumbled to myself.

Then I saw a small group of paper boys were walking down the street.

'They may know," I thought.

I quickly ran from the window, went to my nightstand, pulled one of the drawers open, grabbed a few jewels, and ran straight for my bedroom door.

"Where are you going?!" Lucy shrieked as I opened the door and left Lucy standing done in my room.

"Going to get a newspaper!" I shouted down the hall.

Lucy hurried after me.

"For Mavis sake Levy!" Lucy shouted, "Your outfit!"

I stopped and looked down at my outfit. I was wearing a light blue colored night gown that ended just above my knees.

My face quickly turned a bright shade of red.

"Oh," I mumbled.

"Now," Lucy said as she began she folded her arms, "Go change,"

"What about the paper?" I asked

"I'll take care of it," Lucy said reassuring me.

"Okay," I said as I handed my blond friend the money.

Lucy smiled and made her way down the hall way and climbed down the stairs.

I watched her as she disappeared to the floor below.

A few seconds later the door opened and closed.

I gave a small sigh and made my way back to my room. The hallway that I ran through just moments ago was painted a crimson red, some picture frames hung throughout the walls. There was a long golden rug that covered a majority of the wooden floors.

Finally, towards the end of the hallway to the right was my bedroom door.

I grabbed the door knob, turned it, and walked in.

Two of the four walls were bookshelves. As for the other two walls, one of them had a large window. The last and final wall held my small closet, my bed, and nightstand.

I walked over to my closet and grabbed a somewhat flattering light orange dress that ended just past my ankles. I placed it on the bed and went back to the closet to grab of pair of light colored shoes.

I went around my bed, placed my red framed glasses back on the night stand. Then I opened one of the bottom most drawer. It was full of ribbons and hair pieces.

I pulled out an orange ribbon and closed the drawer.

"Time to get ready," I yawned.

It took me about five minutes to change and do my hair.

When I looked in the mirror, saw my wide blue hair being held back by an orange ribbon. My slender frame was in the orange dress.

I smiled at my reflection before I made my way to my bed room door; opened it and walked into the hallway. I closed the door behind me and walked down the hall way.

I descended down the stairs and entered the lobby of the house. In most gaffs, this part is one of the smallest. However, where I live, it is large. The floors were beautiful light colored wood. The main door to the house was a dark, yet warmed colored. Around the door there was stain glass windows that allowed any light to enter the room. On either side of the room, there were two door ways. The one to the left led to the living room. The one to the right led to the dining room and the kitchen.

I turned left and entered the living room. It was a large room, a large dark brown chandelier hung in the middle of the ceiling, the walls were painted a pale pink, and there was a very large book case that stood against one of the walls on the far left side of the room. On the complete opposite wall, there was a large window that allowed light into the room. There were four large chairs that sat in a large semicircle around a large fireplace.

Everyone was sitting in their spot. Jet and Droy sat in the chairs that sat closest to the windows. Jet being at the end of the semicircle, Droy sitting near him, and finally Lucy sat on the other side of the group of chairs. That meant that I was going to sit in between Lucy and Droy.

"Hello Jet and Droy," I smiled as I entered the room.

"How did you sleep?" Jet asked looking up from his newspaper.

"I slept well," I replied.

"Here is your newspaper," Lucy said as she handed me my newspaper.

"Thank you," I smiled as I grabbed the newspaper from Lucy.

I sat down in my seat and I was about to open it when Lucy spoke up.

"Oh, I forgot to get the crossword and riddles page," Lucy whined

"Alright, give me a minute," I replied as I flipped through the paper to grab Lucy's favorite section.

"Here you are," I said as I handed Lucy her page.

"Thank you very much," Lucy smiled as she received her page.

"No problem," I smiled.

Many people do not understand that Lucy and I tease and contently joked with each other. However, when they do see us teasing and joking around, it appears that we are fighting or bickering. However the people, who do know us, know that it is just our silly little rumor.

I sat back on the chair, preparing myself, not only mentally, but also physically. Being that on occasion, my feet have fallen asleep on me while I have been reading in the past.

Once I was ready to read and become engross in my read.

I read the title of the paper; "The Fiore Daily Magic".

The date was right underneath the title; it read Sunday May 22nd 1910 in Magnolia, England.

My eyes quickly traveled down the page. There was some daily news about the economy, the Queen's health, rumors, and recent discoveries in South America. I continued reading down the paper and then, in the middle of the front page, there was a large bold title drew my attention.

The title read, "Is Jack the Ripper Back?"

My heart stopped. The title said it all. There have been killings and they must be very similar to if not the actual killer, Jack the Ripper. However, he stopped suddenly several years ago. So why is the jack the ripper back and killing again?

I bit my lip, 'what is going on?'
