Chapter two

"Girls, is it just me or did she look slightly familiar?" Alison spoke, gazing to where her brother and the new girl once stood, her groups standing behind her looking at each other.

"Yeh, it's like I've seen her face before but not at the same time. Maybe she's related to someone we know?" Spencer, ever the logical one, tried to explain it. She didn't get an answer as Alison walked off towards their class, the other rushing to keep up with her long heeled legs.

In Amethyst's lesson, she was stood at the teacher's desk waiting for them to walk in. A small brown haired woman strode over as the rest of the class sat at desks.

"Yes, can I help you?" She sounded kind enough. Smiling nervously, she handed over her slip and the teachers eyes widened. "Oh! You're the new student. I wondered if you be in my class. Now, we've just started Shakespeare. Do you have the text or do you need to borrow one?" Now standing behind her desk she looked up to see the red head pull a book out of her bag. Nodding, she gave her a booklet of paper with questions on.

"Were doing this today, to see what you know already and go from there. You can take your seat next to... Noel! Put you hand up so that Amethyst can see where you are." Turning to see everyone staring at her she blushed and ducked her head, heading over to where a tanned skinned attractive male sat with his hand up. Placing her stuff down, she pulled out a red and black fountain pen and lines paper. Next to her, someone cleared their throat. Jumping slightly, she brushed her hair behind her ear and looked over.

Sat with a blindingly white smile, was the tanned guy, Noel. "Hey, I'm Noel Kahn. Just thought I'd introduce myself since were going to be sitting together for a while. If you need any help getting around, school or otherwise, let me know. I'd be happy to help a girl as pretty as you." He held his hand out and she shyly took it. "I'm Amethyst. Thanks for the offer. I might end up taking you up on that offer on being shown around out of school. I've not had time to look around much other than finding here." She smiled at him, hiding slightly behind her fringe before turning to the board to see the teacher writing on it. Missing the inquisitive stare from Noel, she ignored everything and wrote down the notes.

Pulling out her booklet when told she, Amethyst looked at the questions and scoffed. She knew every single answer. Out of the 30 minutes they were given, she finished in 7. Sitting back and relaxing, the teacher, Mrs. Montgomery noticed and walked over.

"Are you having trouble answering the questions? It's okay if you don't know many or any at all, the test is just there to find out what you know or don't know." She smiled kindly down at her and so Amethyst just handed her the completed booklet. Slightly confused, her eyes widened as she flipped the pages over and saw every single question answered. And correctly.

"Have you done this subject before? Because you've got every question right." She sounded surprised and slightly disbelieving. Inwardly rolling her eyes to the teacher, she spoke out loud. "I read the book first and then look up the reason behind him writing it and anything that didn't make sense. Such as on page 189 in this book the second paragraph has been altered compared to the original play script so that the play still makes sense but Hamlet no longer is seen in a positive light." By this point everyone had stopped writing and wads just staring at the both of them, eyes shocked or eye brows raised as they waited for the teacher to answer.

"That still doesn't explain how you know every answer. You didn't even know I was giving the test so you couldn't have cheated. And how did you know that? No one has ever pulled that up before, even though the people who read Shakespeare would have noticed the change in writing."

"I have an Edict memory. Reading the book once was enough to have all the answers. And it is obvious, as you said, to see the change in writing style." By this point, no one was writing and just staring. The bell rang just then and everyone rushed to pack up. Amethyst did too at a leisurely pace and strode right past the teacher to the door. Seeing someone stood there she saw it was Noel.

"What lesson do you have next? I could show you if you wanted or show you where your locker is if you wanted." His thousand-watt smile was thrown her way.

"I have AP Calculus for an hour then AP Biology. And no thanks I've already found my locker and there's nothing in there I need and nothing I need to put in there." Smiling a small smile back at him he tilted his head and started walking, silently telling her to follow.

"So do you really have an Edict memory or were you just saying that so Mrs. Montgomery wouldn't question you anymore?" Casually questioning her, they continued to walk. She simply replied that she does and kept silent. She knew what people were like when you have something like that and they don't. Especially when your IQ is also twice that of the average teenager.

Arriving at her classroom she thanked him and stepped in, preparing for the repeat of English just with different people.

She was right. Two hours 15 minutes later, she was walking outside with a pot of fruit, a chocolate bar and a Tupperware box of tuna pasta. Sitting on the grass she relaxed, finally being far enough away from the gossip and stares was refreshing. What happened in English, also happened in all of her lessons and she knew that the teachers would either be together and discuss it or its happen until all her teacher knew. She hoped for the first options. Running her hands together, she noticed something. Her ring was missing. Trying to remember the exact time and place she lost it, she realized that it had been gone since before first period. Sighing, she went to stand up but someone called her name. Turning in surprise she saw it was Jason jogging up to her in workout clothes looking slightly sweaty. Trying not to look him up and down she smiled and tilted her head in question. He reached into his pocket and pulled out something small and silver. Gasping, she noticed that is was her ring and she held her hand out to take it.

"My ring! Where did you find it? I only just realized I lost it." Putting it back onto her little finger she clenched her first and nodded. He grinned roguishly at her and ran his fingers through his hair. "On the floor where we talked. By the time I noticed it, you were gone. Glad I found it and not someone else. Not everyone in this town would have gave it you back."

"Well, thank you anyway. Err, if you don't mind me asking, but you look too old to be a student. So why are you here? I know that girl earlier told me you were the Councilor but I'm don't believe anything people like her say."

Hearing him huff out a laugh she smiled down at the ground, looking at him under her lashes.

"Yeh I'm the Councilor, helping kids get through things like I went through. I like it but it gives me plenty of free time so I decided to go play hoops with a couple of the guys I council."

Nodding her head at him. She eased herself back down onto the floor, leaning against the wall. Before she could say anything, he joined her on the floor letting her eyes widen in surprise. Opening her mouth to say something he cut her off. "Your here to get away from everyone else, and if they see me here with you there even less likely to come over and talk to you. That and its quite nice here and I don't mind talking to you." He smiles that same smile again, making her blush. Settling into a comfortable silence she offered him her fruit pot and they sat there eating together, not talking just looking at the sky and sneaking glances at each other when they weren't looking.
