Disclaimers: Jane/Maura and Kate are still not mine, mores the pity. All O/C's do belong to me along with the plot.

A/N: So sorry for slow updating, fate has had fun kicking my ass last two weeks. Many thanks to all the people whom have read, reviewed, favorited, and are following the story. I wish to thank the people who gave concise and constructive criticism, regarding grammatical/punctuation errors. Hopefully these corrections will make for a smoother read.

Finally please keep in mind the title, there are no absolute truths, they are subjective to the holder of them. So yea Rizzles rule!

Deceptive Truths

Chapter 2:

Korsak and Frost halted in their tracks momentarily at a loss how to answer. Before Jess could repeat herself, she felt the woman in her arms stir.

Deep brown locked with golden amber once again. Maura looked deep into those oh so familiar eyes, searching for some tiny spark of the woman who secretly held her heart. Her heart sank realizing that although this woman looked and even sounded like her Jane, she wasn't her. The gorgeous chocolate eyes held only puzzlement.

Jess' head whirled with disjointed thoughts as she gently set the honey blonde doctor on her feet. Unable to break the mezmerizing gaze of the other woman, the only thing she was certain of at this moment was this woman was reading her like a book.

A light and dark head whipped around as a low growl came from Korsak, the older man had gone from deathly pale to brick red in an instant.

" What the Hell Janie? Three months you've been gone! We went to your funeral, your mom still cries every time your name comes up. Why would you do this?"

Frost grabbed the older man's arm to try to calm him, but Korsak was angrier than than either he or Maura had ever seen him. " Old man get a grip, this isn't going to help."

Maura felt waves of anger coming from the taller brunette, out of the corner of her eye she saw a deep flush begin to climb her face. Maura knew she must do something or this was going to end very badly.

Gently placing her hand on the other woman's forearm, Maura attempted to get Korsak's attention. "Vince, it's not Jane. She looks and sounds like her, but it is not Jane."

Frost moved his grip to Korsak's shoulders to hold him back just in case, but let go as he felt the defeated slump of the other man's shoulders. "Doc are you sure?" Frost inquired.

"As sure as I can be Barry. You remember I studied facial micro expressions, Jane had me watch many interrogations when you and Vince were busy with other things."

What the hell, one touch and I feel calmer. Who the fuck is this woman, how is she doing this too me? Why am I even letting her touch me? Jess' eyes were glued to the small hand that grasped her arm. She was positive it was branding her right through her jacket and shirt sleeve.

The three of them watched the new detective carefully waiting to see what she would say or do, all of them still somewhat tense.

Jess brought her gaze up to meet three very perplexed stares. Pinching the bridge of her nose and releasing a soul deep sigh, Jess squared her shoulders returning the gaze. She realized she would need to be the one to smooth this over even if she didn't as yet have a full grasp of the situation, but from everything said so far it was becoming clearer just what was happening.

" Detectives Korsak and Frost, I would like to apologize for yelling at you both, this day has gotten off to a crappy start and I know I owe you an explanation."

"Doctor Isles thank you for preventing me from saying even more I know I would have regretted. Not sure just how you did that, but thanks anyway."

A small smile quirked the corner of full lips."Your welcome Detective, I am just glad we could diffuse the situation before it deteriorated. Correct gentlemen?" Maura looked at her two colleagues.

Both men gave each other an astonished look at how quickly Maura had calmed down the ready to lash out detective.

Korsak looked at Frost and sotto voce said, "I thought she could only do that with Jane? Interesting."

Frost just grinned back at the older man then turned to look at the two women side by side. Christ this is like Deja Vu, how many times have the old man and I seen this exact same thing, Rizzoli ready to blow and Maura calming her with just a look or touch. A wave of sadness rolled over him. Too bad Jane and Maura never got the chance to figure it out and just be happy damn it. Frost shook his head as Maura cleared her throat waiting for a response.

"Ummm yea sure Doc, all good here." Frost replied.

Vince muttered something to himself, then stepped forward hand held out. "Sargeant Detective Vincent Korskak, but Vince or Korsak will do."

Jess recognized the proverbial olive branch being extended, and also put out her hand after gently removing it from Maura's grip. "Detective Jess Matthews, Jess or Matthews, your choice." She looked at all of them with a very small sheepish smile.

Maura gave an inner sigh, hoping this would lead to a better dynamic for all of them.

She waited for the explanation she hoped was coming.

Frost also shook with Jess, and said he hoped they could put this aside and start over.

Jess smirked at him, and replied she'd give it a shot.

Jess ran one long slender hand through ebony waves, not noticing the startled look the other three gave each other. She gave a couple of false starts, then began. "Firstly this does not excuse my actions, it's just everything added up to set me off. On the way to work I got stuck in traffic. I haven't had coffee yet, and then the Lt. called and rerouted me here. When I arrived Barnes was stuttering and staring, and wouldn't say why. Then I got a look at our vic, it's a little girl." Jess' broad shoulders slumped at this last as the other three looked into the alley mouth, then turned back to thewoman before them. Jess continued her monologue,"Then all of you showed up and well you know the rest."

Vince heaved a huge sigh,"Ok how's about we do what we need to, then we can discuss this later? That alright with everyone?"

A chorus of yes, ok and certainly Vince came back to him.

"Matthews, give me your first impressions. What have we got?"

Jess gave an inner smirk as she saw this for the test it was. So as calmly as possible, she began to relate her observations of the scene and the vic. When she finished she waited for Korsak's assement.

"Good job Matthews, we'll let the doc do her thing while we do ours."

"Ok Korsak, what would you like me to do?" Jess inquired.

Korsak waved Frost over from his place near Maura. "You take Jess and start questioning wits, I'm gonna talk to the Doc and look over the scene."

"Sure thing old man, we got it covered." He ducked as Vince took a half hearted swat at his head. "Damn Vince you're slowing down." Frost gave a small chuckle as Vince just glared daggers at him.

"C'mon Jess let's see what rocks we have to turn over. Maybe we'll get lucky. God I hate when it's kids, glad it's Korsak checking with the doc. This shit is just too disturbing sometimes."

Jess walked slowly beside Frost, then she pinned him with a pensive look. "Frost?"

"What's up?" Frost slowed his stride.

"Can I ask you something?" Jess stood quietly waiting for his answer.

"Sure shoot, well no don't shoot but ahhh hell you know what I mean." Frost smirked, having a pretty good idea what was coming, just from the semi dazed look on his new partner's face.

"Does she have that effect on everyone, or just the completely unprepared? The doc I mean." Jess ground out softly between gritted teeth. An unbidden blush covering her face.

Frost held back the laugh trying to escape. "Well it differs with everyone, but yea she does." He debated what he was going to add then went for it. "Jane was the exception, until now. You and she seem alot alike, but yea the doc could calm her with a word or look or a touch. Trust me I miss Rizzoli, and she could be one hell of a hothead, but not with Maura."

Jess nodded in acceptance of Frost's statement. "Man if you could bottle whatever it is we'd have a lot less trouble with perps! One touch and it was like instantaneous tranq. And I didn't jerk away or smack her which is weird." The last part was very soft as though to herself.

Frost gave her a quizzical look,"What do you mean? Weird how?

Red once again stained Jess' cheeks. "I'm not gonna say a whole lot on this except as a head's up for you and Korsak. I don't like to be touched at all, and if I don't see it coming I tend to lash out. Hence the weird."

Frost just nodded his understanding, as they went to talk to whatever wits they could

find.
