Chapter Two

The Paramedics leapt from the ambulance. "Hello!" Shouted a woman paramedic "Hello," shouted back Maddy, sounding rather worried.

"Don't worry, I'm sure your friend will be okay." The woman said, reassuringly.

The medics ran over to the pond.

The Woman threw a rope over to Rhydian.

"Rhydian, grab this!" She shouted

"I can't! My fingers are too numb!" He shouted back.

"Ok, I'll try and come closer!" She shouted.

She inched forward over the ice, crawling on her belly.

"Rhydian, grab my hand!"

He reached out, grabbed her hand, and soon he was out of the water!

The woman paramedic grabbed a warm blanket. "Here, put this around you." She grabbed a support for his ankle. "okay now we will X-ray your ankle when we get to A & E." She then took a thermometer and proceeded to take his temperature. "It's low." She sounded worried, "there's a 20% chance that you may have hypothermia. So let's get you into the ambulance, it's a long drive."

The woman paramedic looked worriedly at Rhydian.

"Rhydian? Are you ok? You look rather pale."

"Wha... oh, yeah." Replied Rhydian weakly, then he fell unconscious.

"Quick!" she shouted to the other medic, "get the BP monitor, and the breathing machine!" "Okay!" He shouted. A moment later he returned with the specified equipment.

A while later, Rhydian came round.

"Oh, Rhydian, how are you feeling?" Asked the medic.

"Awful!" Replied Rhydian "my leg hurts really bad!"

"Okay, we can give you a painkiller if you like?" The medic suggested.

"Okay." Replied Rhydian.

It was 11Am. "I'm going to miss school!"

Exclaimed Maddy, who had been sitting in the ambulance.

"Don't worry, I'm sure it won't matter." Said the medic.

"yeah ok, I hope not." Said maddy.

Bet she never had Mr Jeffries though, did she? She thought.
