And yes, I also updated this chapter! I made it a little less dramatic, and we're just gonna jump right in! I am trying to loosely follow the plot of the show (With some obvious major changes). Oh! Before I forget; to the reviewer who said there was already too much Kahlan x Cara & not enough Kahlan x Richard, you know you don't have to read this right? O.o I am not going to change it. It's Cara x Kahlan (Because they're fabulous.) anyway, enjoy!

Chapter 2

You had been keeping watch almost all night. Zedd had woken up to do his shift, but he went right back to sleep without complaining when you told him you would take his shift too. I an annoyed way of course, it would have been almost 'kind' otherwise. No, you couldn't have that.

The ritual had been over for several hours now, but all of it still felt surreal. Your mind wandered back to everything Zedd had said. That the seeker should always go in pursuit of truth. That he, or apparently she in this case, should be strong and courageous and… compassionate. You'd think they would have established by now that of everyone in the ensemble, you are the least likely to be compassionate. Or are you? No, definitely not.

You feel like your head is about to explode from the internal conversation with yourself when you hear soft footsteps behind you. "I told you I would take your shift, Z-" You are surprised to see Kahlan looking at you. Although that surprise quickly turns into annoyance once again once you see her worried expression. You hate it when people are worried about you. You can take care of yourself. "It's not your shift yet." You say, blankly staring out in front of you so as not to face her.

"I know, but I figured you could use some company. I'm not sleepy anyway." From the corner of your eyes you see her sit down next to you. "I am perfectly fine on my own. Go back to sleep." It's silent for a while and even though you're still staring out in front of you, you can feel her eyes on you. "You know you can talk to me about things, right?" Sighing, you finally turn your attention towards the brunette. "Look, I know you're into this emotional stuff, like crying over swords, but I'm not. I have nothing to talk about. Let's just finish this mission up and be done with it."

It's silent again for a while and you just know Kahlan is pondering on your words once again. Another one of her annoying habits; over-thinking every little thing you say.

"It's fine if you don't want to talk. But if you ever change your mind, I am always available." That was a response you definitely were not expecting, but you are glad you got it. You have been following commands you whole life, it was nice to have someone around who doesn't expect you to do so. Aaaand time to stop this line of thought before you become all warm and fuzzy. You clear your throat, saying the first thing that pops into your mind just to break this distracting silence.

"So, why were you crying over that sword anyway?" Kahlan looks at you, puzzled expression.

"Because I miss him."

"Why?"

Kahlan chuckles lightly at your frown, trying to figure out if you're actually being serious. You are. "Because I love him."

"Well, that would explain why I don't miss him." You smile at the other woman. The latter smiles back. "I think this is the first time I've seen you smile." By the time her sentence is finished, you've already pushed your face back into its usual blank expression. "I guess I must be getting tired."

"Go get some sleep then. I'll take it from here." With that she places the sword on her knees and steadies her breathing, alert for anything out of the usual.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-The Compassionate-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Zedd throws you the compass. "Seems like you will have to lead us then, as only the Seeker can read the compass." You catch the compass between your two hands, climbing on top of your horse. Day one and you have already had enough of all this Seeker stuff. You aren't a leader. You take care of yourself, nobody else. Sighing, you open the compass. A blue light points to the south. "Looks like we're going south." Zedd smiles, slowly making his way to his horse. "And another proof that you are the seeker."

You roll your eyes, giving your horse the signal to leave. You hear Zedd calling out to wait, but it gets less strong as you ride on. Maybe being the leader wasn't so bad after all.

You don't get far, however, when your horse starts to become restless. You swiftly slide off, Zedd and Kahlan having caught up with you by now. "Didn't you hear me when I told you to wait?"

"shh." You hold your hand up, signalling them to hold their tongues. There is a rustling in the trees and it doesn't take long before you see banelings running your way. You reach for your agiels, the pain you're so used to immediately creeping up your arm.

You kick the first on the reach you back with your foot, eliminating the next two immediately with your agiels. You see another load heading the other direction where Kahlan is standing. Catching glances every now and then, however, you see that she can more than handle herself. She has gotten quite used to Richard's sword already apparently. The fighting style suits her, and she looks very hot wielding the sword. You widen your eyes. That is not what you had meant. You meant bad-ass. Obviously not hot.

Unknowingly, you had moved closer to Kahlan while fighting the banelings and were now practically standing back to back with her. It worked well, finishing off every enemy without having to worry about getting attacked in the back. The horde was growing smaller until only a few banelings were left.

Finishing up the fight, you catch a movement from the corner of your eye. Zedd has also almost killed all his enemies but has his back turned to one now, oblivious to the danger. "Zedd!" You call out, knowing you won't reach him in time. Your mind races and without fully knowing what you are doing, you plant yourself on one knee. Your hand reaching behind you until your fingertips feel the cold metal hilt of Kahlan's dagger. Without further thought you yank it out of her boot and throw it towards the baneling. You feel relief wash over you as the dagger hits its target and the latter collapses on the spot. The wizard turned around just in time to see your victim collapse right in front of him, dagger neatly planted in the head. They were all breathing heavily, still stuck in their fighting stance.

"Charming," Zedd manages to bring out in between breaths. You just give a small nod of acknowledgement. It was definitely easier when Richard was around.
