Captain's log. Zoltan-controlled space, somewhere in sector three; just after jumping to a friendly merchant beacon from an encounter with an energy bomber that didn't, initially, want to listen to reason.

I should have gotten to know him better. Now he's forever stuck in my head as "Skip" or some equally ridiculous derivative of that. He was my crew and he deserved better than me forgetting him as soon as he was gone. The sad fact is that if he didn't plug the hull for just that split second so the rest of us could make it to the other side of those blast doors, I don't think anyone would be writing this…

I miss the way he lit up a room by walking into it, mostly because of that eerie Zoltan-glo thing they do, you know what I'm talking about. I will certainly miss being able to allocate more energy than my ship actually produces, especially in those tight situations that you never expect but that seem to crop up more often every jump.

I'm sorry I couldn't do better by you, Skipper, but your absence is noted.

So it looks like Borman's back on shields duty, which is good. I didn't like him just laying about the place. Gave the wrong impression to the crew. Our interactions of late, most noticeably those in front other crew, have been increasingly hostile. Not past a point of concern by any measure, we've known each other too long to be petty about things like that, but too much to ignore altogether.

It seems that he thinks that I need to prove why I'm the captain instead of him…
